Baramulla MP Abdul Rashid Sheikh alias Engineer Rashid on Tuesday condemned the Pahalgam incident , terming it a murder of democracy . Speaking in the Lok Sabha , he treaded cautiously not to join the Opposition side in blaming the political establishment for not being able to avert the Pahalgam incident even as he called upon both the sides to find a political solution to the issue."Whatever happened in Pahalgam was a murder of humanity. When it comes to condemning it, who understands the pain of the affected family more than we Kashmiris. We have lost thousands of people the same way since 1989....", he said.Rashid avoided blaming the Lt-Governor of J&K and did not mentioned the home minister. "So many people are asking where the militants had fled (after the Pahalgam incident) and what the Lt-Governor sahib was doing. I am not pleading for anyone. I am not taking sides. I am coming from a place close to the border, where it is not difficult for people to come in and go out. When you are questioning the L-G, no I am not defending him. But even two people intruded into your Parliament," he said. "What I am saying is how do you finish off militancy? How will you fight the militants? For that, you have to win the hearts of Kashmiris. You have to decide, both ruling and Opposition sides, whether you want the people of Kashmir or the land of Kashmir...J&K problem is not communal, it is a political issue. You need to give a political solution," the AIP member said.

Rs 230000000000: Huge amount of money may go waste as India fails to upgrade its diesel-electric submarine; India Navy is now...
India's nuclear-powered submarines. (File) New Delhi: In a matter of concern for the Indian Navy, India's plan to enhance the stealth and underwater endurance of its Scorpene-class submarines has been delayed as DRDO's Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) system is still not ready. Notably, INS Kalvari, currently under refit, will not get the upgrade due to this setback, making it vulnerable to the submarine hunting radars of China and Pakistan in the Indian ocean. Why next AIP Fitment is now pushed to 2026 The AIP project, approved in 2014, has missed multiple deadlines and is now expected to be ready by mid-2026 for INS Khanderi. Meanwhile, all six Scorpene submarines under Project-75 have been inducted, but lack key stealth capabilities. Notably, the Indian Navy has inducted six Scorpene-class diesel-electric submarines under Project-75, built by Mazagon Dock with French collaboration at a cost of over Rs 23,000 crore. Also, INS Vagsheer was the latest to join in January 2025. However, the absence of advanced stealth features poses a high operational risk to the Indian Navy in case of a naval conflict. India Navy Chief visits headquarters of Japan's Maritime Self Defence Force Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi was apprised of Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force's (JMSDF) organisational structure, objectives and operational role during his visit to the Fleet Headquarters and the Maritime Operations Centre in Tokyo, on Saturday. The engagements during the ongoing visit to Japan by the CNS lays the groundwork for deeper cooperation and mutual understanding in common maritime interests between India and Japan. 'Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, CNS, visited JMSDF's Fleet Headquarters and the Maritime Operations Centre – the nerve centre of Japan's maritime domain awareness. He was briefed on the organisation of JMSDF as also the objectives and roles of the Service. The visit and interactions in Japan pave the way for enhanced mutual understanding in key areas of shared maritime interests,' the Indian Navy posted on X. (With inputs from agencies)

Once again, tribals to protest Par-Tapi-Narmada river-linking project
Surat: Reviving protests against Par-Tapi-Narmada river-linking project in South Gujarat after a gap of three years, a rally has been announced in the Dharampur area of Valsad on Aug 14. Over 5,000 people of tribal communities from affected regions are expected to take part in the demonstration. Members of the tribal committee, overseeing the protest, met in Nadagdhari village near Dharampur and worked out a strategy to restart the protest. The protest was revived after a detailed project report (DPR) was presented in Parliament. "Ahead of the 2022 assembly election, chief minister Bhupendra Patel declared the project scrapped during his visit to Surat in May. However, now a DPR has been presented in the Lok Sabha and thousands of tribals have been forced to restart the protest for survival," said Anant Patel, Congress MLA from Vansda. The project involves linking three rivers — Par, originating from Nashik in Maharashtra and flowing through Valsad; Tapi from Saputara that flows through Maharashtra and Surat in Gujarat; and Narmada originating in Madhya Pradesh and flowing through Maharashtra and Bharuch and Narmada districts in Gujarat — to transfer river water from the surplus regions of the Western Ghats to the deficit regions of Saurashtra and Kutch. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Access all TV channels anywhere, anytime Techno Mag Undo Envisioned 40 years ago under the 1980 National Perspective Plan, the project, which also proposes to have multiple dams, was put aside a few times due to protests. In 2022, mention of the project in the Union budget speech sparked widespread protests in South Gujarat. After its recent mention in Parliament, around 1 lakh tribals who fear losing their homes have begun protests anew. The village committees that were formed in 2022 are being resurrected to sensitise people about the impact of the project. In South Gujarat, a large part of Dang and Valsad will be impacted due to the network of dams and canals. "Earlier, seven dams were planned, but now two more dams have been added in the DPR details. Nearly 30,000 families will be affected. Their villages, farmland, and livelihood will be submerged in dam water," added Patel. "The tribal populations, who have lived in harmony with their natural surroundings for generations, feel that the project threatens their traditional way of life. They fear displacement, loss of livelihood, and the destruction of their ancestral lands," said Kalpesh Patel, a tribal rights activist.
