ETHEKWINI has issued a notice regarding a planned interruption of water supply from various reservoirs supplied by the Wiggins Water Treatment Works Gravity System from the morning of July 8 to 9.

eThekwini spokesperson, Gugu Sisilana, said the shutdown is for the city's bulk water supplier, uMngeni-uThukela Water (UUW), to replace 1 200mm diameter seals and check meters on the gravity bulk pipeline.
'This includes the repair of a leak on the aqueducts that has affected full recovery of the plant inflow since the April shutdown,' said Sisilana.
In preparation for the shutdown, UUW will shut off the treatment works, which will result in no water flowing into the city's reservoirs. Those who may receive water during this period are urged to reduce consumption and to use water sparingly. Water tankers will be deployed to affected areas where necessary.
For more information regarding water supply, the public can download the eThekwini Municipality's mobile app to log faults or send a WhatsApp to 073 1483 477. Alternatively, send an email to Eservices@durban.gov.za or call the toll-free number 080 311 1111.
Affected areas in the south system are:
Athlone Park, Galleria Mall, Arbour Crossing, Kingsway Hospital, Ezimbokodweni, Southgate Industrial Park, Lewis Drive, Amanzimtoti CBD, Almond, Winklespruit, Warner Beach, Illovo Glen, Lower Illovo, Doonside, Launceston, Illovo Beach, Karridene, Panorama Park, Umgababa, Umnini, Mfume, KwaSoni, Mashiwase, Nkwali, Lovu, Bhekulwandle, Msarhweni, Inkwali, KwaMakhutha, Mkhazini, eMasomini, Ekuhlengeni Psychiatric Hospital, Ohlongeni, Adams, Adams Central, Zwelisha, Ilfracombe, Magabheni, Thoyane, Umkhomazi, Craigieburn, Amahlongwa, Crowder Farm, Malukazi, Clansthal, and Naidooville.

Sinkhole repair on Oxford and Cotswold roads delayed

The Johannesburg Roads Agency's (JRA) sinkhole repair on Oxford and Cotswold roads in Saxonwold continues to be delayed due to hydraulic challenges, after being worked on in February this year. Head of department for regional operations, Khaya Gqibitole, in February, explained to the Gazette that the sinkhole was caused by dislodged double-barrel stormwater pipes. Also read: Repairs underway on Johannesburg City Library's piqué flooring 'The dislodged section of the pipes has resulted in debris accumulation inside the pipes, which led to the blockage of the system and subsequently a sinkhole formation at the corner of Cotswold and Oxford roads.' On July 2, Gqibitole explained to the Gazette that a JRA maintenance team conducted repair work, but there were persistent hydraulic challenges. 'The issue will be escalated to the JRA Infrastructure Planning Department for a redesign.' The JRA promised to respond on July 30 regarding the status and outcome of the escalation. Couple gets married 'come hell or high water' in flooded church amid typhoon in the Philippines

We've all heard the phrase 'come hell or high water' and one couple in the Philippines proved they meant it literally on their wedding day. On Tuesday 22 July, Jade Rick Verdillo and Jamaica Aguilar tied the knot in a flooded church after being together for a decade. The couple walked down the aisle of the historic Barasoain Church in Malolos, Bulacan province, despite ankle-deep floodwaters brought on by Typhoon Wipha. The typhoon had intensified seasonal monsoon rains, leading to widespread flooding across the region. Knowing the risk, Verdillo and Aguilar were undeterred. Rather than let the weather wash away their big day, they chose to embrace it. Photos from the event show Aguilar making her way down the aisle in a white wedding gown, the hem and train trailing in the murky water. Her groom, waiting at the altar, beamed as she approached. Guests who braved the storm placed their shoes on benches to keep them dry, determined to celebrate the love of two people who wouldn't let anything, not even a typhoon, stand in their way. 'We just mustered enough courage,' the couple told reporters. 'We've been together for 10 years. We know challenges won't stop here. This is just one of the struggles we've already overcome.' The newlyweds later shared their unforgettable wedding photos on Instagram and their story quickly went viral.

Witbank Magistrate's Court operating with limited services today

The Witbank Magistrate's Court announced that due to the water outage plaguing eMalahleni, they are operating with limited services today. Court manager Thulani Mabena explained that they reached the decision to limit services because it is not safe to run the court without water. 'For tomorrow, we will reassess the situation in the morning. If there's still no water, we will then decide whether to postpone or to continue,' he said. Services that are proceeding are those that involve domestic violence, urgent court applications, and urgent state services; all the other cases were postponed. 'Despite the current challenges, we remain committed to upholding high standards in public service and ensuring that your essential needs are addressed as best as possible during this period,' Mabena concluded.
