Over 500 attend eco-friendly event in Pandan Indah
Ten netball teams battled it out for the RM1,000 cash prize.
Ampang Jaya's first car-free day this year saw a lively start with more than 500 residents hitting the streets.
With roads in Pandan Indah closed to traffic, the community came together for a day packed with sports and games at the event, held in conjunction with National Youth Day 2025.
Organised by Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ), the car-free programme is part of the council's ongoing mission to make the town a low carbon area, while inspiring locals to embrace healthy and active lifestyles.
A 3km leisure walk saw participants of all ages lacing up their sneakers and soaking in the festive atmosphere at Padang Perbandaran MPAJ.
Gamers got their moment in the spotlight at the PlayStation 5 e-sports tournament, which made its debut and drew 30 competitors vying for a slice of the RM1,000 prize pool.
The council's car-free day programme also included a leisure walk at Padang Perbandaran MPAJ in Pandan Indah.
Ahmad Farid Ab Aziz walked away with the champion title and RM500.
Over on the field, 10 netball teams battled it out for the RM1,000 cash prize.
A penalty kick competition featured 100 players from 20 teams across Under-8, Under-10 and Under-12 categories.
Winners walked away with medals, hampers worth RM100 and challenge trophies.
Families also got in on the action with crowd-pleasing favourites like cooking, colouring, acoustic singing and home garden decoration contests.

Queen Visits Hospis Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR, June 5 (Bernama) -- Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, today visited Hospis Malaysia, a charitable organisation that provides palliative care to patients suffering from chronic illnesses, such as cancer and kidney problems. The visit was a specially arranged event in conjunction with the official birthday of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia. During the visit, Raja Zarith Sofiah spent more than two hours meeting patients receiving treatment at the centre, in addition to donating RM30,000 to Hospis Malaysia. Meanwhile, in her speech, Raja Zarith Sofiah said that she decided to visit Hospis Malaysia because she felt that there were still many Malaysians not aware of the importance of palliative care for family members. 'Hospis Malaysia can help provide palliative care, which is supportive care for patients with chronic illnesses. 'The responsibility of doctors and nurses at Hospis Malaysia is to provide advice and support to patients and their families, such as visiting and treating patients at home and to ease the patient's pain with effective medications,' said Her Majesty. Raja Zarith Sofiah said she became aware of palliative care since the late 1990s when the Johor Bahru Rotary Club often organised visits to homes of chronic patients, prompting Her Majesty to also become a volunteer and visit the patients at their homes. "Whenever there are seminars on palliative care, I will attend those seminars, and that was when I met Dr Ednin and palliative specialists from other countries," said Her Majesty.

Perak provides RM5,000 aid to families of FRU officers killed in accident
IPOH: The Perak government has announced a RM5,000 financial aid package for each family of the nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel who died in a road accident on May 13. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad noted that similar aid had been extended to the families of victims from a Royal Malaysian Navy helicopter crash previously and said the current assistance was approved at a state executive council meeting. "The RM5,000 contribution has been facilitated by Yayasan Bina Upaya (YBU) and delivered to the bereaved families," he told reporters after launching the Perak State Digital Economy Action Plan 2030 and the Smart City Blueprint 2040 here on Wednesday (June 4). Also present were State Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Sandrea Ng Shy Ching, and State Communications, Multimedia and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) Committee chairman Mohd Azlan Helmi. The fatal collision occurred at 8.50 am when an FRU lorry carrying 18 officers from Unit 5 in Sungai Senam collided with a stone-laden truck while returning from duties in Teluk Intan during the Chitrapournami festival.
