Clutch pitching gives Oregon its third straight Big Ten series win
Baseball games rarely go according to script, but if Oregon coach Mark Wasikowski could draw up a victory in order to win a conference series, this would be it.
The Ducks got six excellent innings out of starter Will Sanford, some clutch hitting to grab and then preserve the lead and then ended the game with a dominating closing performance and all that added up to a 4-2 win over Rutgers to win the series.
Oregon is now 19-5 overall and 7-2 in Big Ten play, good for a tie for first place with Iowa at 7-2. Rutgers dropped to 10-14 overall and 2-4 in conference action.
The Ducks took the early 2-0 in the second inning when Chase Meggers lined a double down the right field line.
That was enough for Sanford on the mound as he continued to get out after out. He found himself in trouble a couple of time, but managed to pitch his way out of it. The only time the Scarlet Knights were able to crack the scoreboard was in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly.
Oregon scored another run in the fifth on a Burke-Lee Mabeus grounder that brought Aaron Aroz home and it was 3-1.
Reliever Jason Reitz came on in the seventh and pitched a perfect inning. He then came on in the eighth and found himself in some trouble as Rutgers scored one and had the bases loaded with two out. The Ducks called upon left-hander Santiago Garcia and he coaxed Pablo Santos to hit into a fielder's choice to end the inning.
Up 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth, the Ducks were able to score a much-needed insurance run when Jaboc Walsh roped a double to right-center that scored Mason Neville. That was all Garcia needed as he pitched a perfect ninth for his first save of the season.
It was a different story Saturday as Rutgers, with some help from Mother Nature, was able to shutout the Ducks 8-0 for their first ever win in Eugene. It was cold and rainy and Oregon just couldn't get the bats going. They just had two hits for the night.
But in the series opener, starter Grayson Grinsell pitched into the seventh inning but found himself tied at 3-3. Relievers Garcia, Jaxon Jordan and Cole Stokes held Rutgers right there, just long enough for the offense to win the game in the ninth inning thanks to a sacrifice fly from Parker Stinson. It was Stinson's first plate appearance of the season and he made the most of his opportunity.
Oregon was scheduled for a two-game midweek series with Kent State, but weather has already erased that. The Ducks will travel across the country for their first real Big Ten road trip at Ohio State. It hasn't been a fun season for the Buckeyes on the diamond. They are just 6-15 overall and are still looking for their first conference win at 0-6.

Magic rookie Jase Richardson hit the gym with Desmond Bane, others
Orlando Magic guard Jase Richardson was spotted in the gym in photos posted by the team on social media in preparation for his upcoming rookie campaign. Richardson was seen working out alongside Desmond Bane, Jonathan Isaac and Tyus Jones at the AdventHealth Training Center. Several players have been in and out of the practice facility throughout the summer, with Richardson among the latest to get in some work. The offseason period is a great chance for incoming rookies to hit the court with their new teammates to build chemistry. After playing with a few roster players in summer league, Richardson had the opportunity to get on the court with some of the veterans. Richardson was named to the All-Big Ten third team last season at Michigan State, averaging 12.1 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists on 41.2% shooting from 3-point range as a freshman. He ranked ninth in the country in box plus-minus (plus-11.6) and 14th in offensive rating (132). The 19-year-old debuted with the Magic in the NBA Summer League, averaging 16.5 points, 2.5 assists, 1.5 rebounds and one block on 55.6% shooting from the field in two appearances. He produced 19 points and four assists in his last game on July 13. Richardson projects to check a lot of boxes for the Magic and was a player they were even looking at with the 16th pick before trading it away. He faces an uphill battle vying for rotational minutes, but he appeared to pass the test in his first action this summer.

Tyler Shough fantasy football preview 2025: Stats, season outlook, predictions
Rotoworld Staff, Tyler Shough 2025 Fantasy Preview 2024: Playing for Louisville to wrap up a storied seven-year college career that lasted so long that (we are not making this up) he backed up Justin Herbert at Oregon, Shough started more than 10 games for the first time in his career. He threw for 3,195 yards and 23 touchdowns in his age-25 season. In a bad quarterback draft class, many scouts decided that Shough was mentally mature (he holds two degrees from Oregon and a masters from Texas Tech and we are not making that up either) and one of the better bets in the draft class. This is what the kids would colloquially call 'cope.' The Saints fell for it and drafted Shough in the second round. What's changed: Now in an offseason quarterback battle with Spencer Rattler that he's likely the favorite to win due to the fact that the new coaching staff drafted him, Shough will turn 26 and try to make the most of what looks to be a screens-and-bombs offense in New Orleans. The supporting cast isn't dire, but it has taken on attrition between Chris Olave's concussions and Alvin Kamara's age. It wouldn't be surprising if Shough had a passable rookie season. It would be surprising if he was a star of any sort. Outlook: Shough is being drafted behind some No. 2 quarterbacks in best ball. We don't think there's zero plausible fantasy upside here, but whatever does happen in New Orleans this year will probably not amount to more than a superflex QB2. And that is assuming that Shough wins the job, something that isn't exactly written in stone at this point. We snark hard about his age and his injury history, but it's not like he fell out of the first round because he was raw – Shough is a high-floor stab at competency. Wisconsin basketball guard projected as one of nation's leading scorers
With college football just around the corner, preview work for the college basketball season is taking a back seat. However, Wisconsin fans have reason to be excited for the 2025-2026 campaign. The Badgers are expected to be one of the better teams in both the Big Ten and the entire sport. One of the players who will determine Wisconsin's success is junior guard John Blackwell, who is poised to make a significant jump as the team's top option. According to a website dedicated to college basketball data and analysis, Blackwell is projected as one of the highest scoring players in the sport this winter. Torvik has Blackwell with the ninth-highest projected points per game total, just below Ohio State's Bruce Thornton and BYU's AJ Dybantsa. Wisconsin's transfer portal class of Nick Boyd, Andrew Rohde, Austin Rapp and others will be crucial for the team's success this upcoming season. Still, roster retention remains the most important thing in the current age of college sports. Returning contributors like Blackwell, Nolan Winter, and Jack Janicki should have just as much of a say in the team's success. Expect a big year from Blackwell and the rest of his Badgers teammates.
