As India is gearing up to celebrate the 11th International Day of Yoga on June 21, the government is organising a multitude of events nationwide to mark the occasion with "Yoga for One Earth, One Health" as this year's themeYoga Sangam, the main event, will orchestrate a synchronised mass yoga demonstration based on the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) at over 1 lakh locations across India on June 21, 2025, from 6:30 AM to 7:45 AM.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the national event at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This collective celebration aims to reaffirm our shared commitment to the timeless practice of yoga and its enduring relevance in today's world.
An invaluable gift of ancient Indian tradition, Yoga has emerged as one of the most trusted means to boost physical and mental well-being. The word "Yoga" is derived from the Sanskrit root 'yuj', meaning "to join," "to yoke," or "to unite." It symbolises the unity of mind and body, thought and action, restraint and fulfilment, harmony between human and nature, and a holistic approach to health and well-being.

International Yoga Day 2025 LIVE: PM Modi says Yoga holds key to world peace as global conflicts rise
International Yoga Day 2025: It is the 11th edition of the global celebration, with this year's theme as 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health', which the PM Modi announced on March 30 during his Mann Ki Baat'. To mark the International Day of Yoga on Saturday, India has organised thematic events and programmes in 1,300 cities featuring the nation's ancient tradition and soft power. PM Modi took part in celebrations in Vishakhapatnam. The theme focusses on how yoga can promote mental tranquillity, physical well-being, and a sense of environmental responsibility in a world grappling with challenges such as climate change, pandemics, and lifestyle-related illnesses. 'The Guinness World Records title that starts today is the most people performing the cobra pose in yoga, simultaneously, we set a guideline that everyone had to do it for at least a minute each, and we set a minimum target of 250 participants. Today, they did it for more than a minute, they did it for two minutes and nine seconds, and the total was 2185. We had to discount 64 participants. So the confirmed title is 2121 participants. Given we set a minimum of 250, this is smashing the Guinness World Record. Congratulations to everyone involved, and it's a fantastic achievement,' ANI quoted Richard as saying. 'The objective behind #InternationalDayofYoga2025 is that India should be health-conscious. This movement of Prime Minister Modi is a very important step towards Fit India. On the occasion of International Yoga Day, yoga camps have been organised across the country and the world. You will see that today, thousands of Muslim youth are participating in the Yoga Day program…'ANI quoted Darul as saying. "There is a reason why the historic civilisations have looked at the summer solstice as a very special day and it is in that context, based on the idea that yoga is connected with the most scientific way of, not just exercise, but healing the human body, that the International Day of Yoga falls on the summer solstice," ANI quoted Vikram as saying. Yog Guru Ramdev said, "Yog is in our DNA. It has become a mass movement. Prime Minister's vision of making India a developed country by 2047, its basis, its foundation, is yoga. I would appeal to everyone to pledge to do yoga not only on June 21, but every day for at least 10-20 minutes. Yoga should become a way of our life," ANI reported. Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini on June 21 said, "To reduce stress, we have announced a five-minute break in every office so that we can work again with new energy and strength... Everyone will implement this in the private sector as well," ANI reported. For years, Yamuna has been ignored by the governments that have been in power; they didn't do the work that should have been done. But, we are continuing our efforts to clean the river Yamuna since we assumed power in Delhi... Today, from the bank of this river, we participate in Yoga to give a message to the people of Delhi that the work is ongoing to clean the river. Its research has shown that yoga has a critical role in the treatment of cardiac and neurological disorders, and it also plays an important role in women's health and mental health," ANI reported. PM Modi, Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan participated in the grand Yoga session in Visakhapatnam. PM Modi said, "The theme of this year's International Day of Yoga is 'Yoga For One Earth, For One Health'. This theme reflects a deep truth: the health of every entity on Earth is interconnected. Human well-being depends on the health of the soil that grows our food, the rivers that give us water, the health of the animals that share our ecosystems, and the plants that nourish us. Yoga awakens us to this interconnectedness, leads us on a journey towards oneness with the world, and teaches us that we are not isolated individuals but part of nature," ANI reported. 'In the last one decade, when I see the journey of Yoga, it reminds me of many things. The day India put forth a resolution in the UNGA - to recognise June 21 as International Yoga Day- and in a very short time, 175 countries of the world stood with our country. More than 25,000 tribal students from Alluri Sitharama Raju district participated in a massive yoga session in Visakhapatnam on Friday, setting the stage for a new world record. The official announcement of the record is expected on Saturday, coinciding with International Yoga Day celebrations. Students from various tribal welfare and Ashram schools across Paderu, Ananthagiri, Pedabayalu, Chintapalli, Araku, G. Madugula, and Hukumpeta performed a series of asanas, with impressive coordination and confidence. While a section of students had been rigorously training for three to four months, others had only a few weeks for the preparation. Before the session, the students were provided with yoga mats and issued barcodes, which were scanned to record attendance. Under the guidance of senior yoga instructor Pathanjali Srinivasa Rao, the participants began the session with 'Omkaram' and completed 108 Surya Namaskarams in 108 minutes. 'We are proud to participate in the event. We had been training hard for the event. It is a completely different experience to perform yoga in unison. We feel more focused and active in our studies ever since yoga was introduced in our school,' said P. Anusha, a student from G. Madugula. K. Santosh from Araku shared his excitement. 'We were thrilled when we heard that we would be part of a world record event and that we might get a chance to perform yoga in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.' Venkatesh, a Class IX student from Araku, said he was nervous before the programme. 'I was shocked to see such a large gathering. But once I saw all my classmates there, excitement took the place of the nervousness. We are very happy to be a part of such a mega event,' he said.
