The top 20 Major airlines globally, ranked by lowest CO2/ASK
Wizz Air, the Hungary-based ultra-low-cost airline emits an industry low of 53.9 grams of CO₂ per Available Seat Kilometer (ASK)*, followed by Frontier Airlines (54.4 grams) and Pegasus (57.1 grams) according to the report.
The rankings provide the aviation industry with verified comparable data on an equal playing field as the sector advances toward Net Zero by 2050 commitments. The rankings performance use Cirium's EmeraldSky platform, which achieved ISAE 3000 Reasonable Assurance from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and official accreditation from the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI).

Of note is the performance of Indigo, top in Asia, Volaris, top in Latin America and the Caribbean, and Jetstar, for its performance in Australia.
The CO2/ASK Emissions of the World's Largest Airlines
Cirium's reporting also ranked the 10 largest airlines in the world by ASK. At the head of the table is Ryanair, followed by Southwest Airlines, and Delta Air Lines. Each of the major U.S. carriers earned spots at the table, while Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airlines and Emirates rounded out a group of primarily long-haul operators.
Enabling Fair Comparison Across the Industry
'For the first time, airlines can compare their emissions performance using a consistent, verified methodology,' said Jeremy Bowen, CEO at Cirium. 'EmeraldSky provides the industry-standard benchmark that enables fair comparison and meaningful progress tracking.'
The comprehensive Review analyzed global operations using dual-accredited methodology, with the full report containing extensive findings across:
The Review provides comprehensive operational insights that support industry-wide efficiency improvements, offering actionable intelligence for aviation stakeholders committed to sustainability progress.
Setting New Industry Transparency Standards
EmeraldSky's methodology achieved the highest level of assurance under International Standard on Assurance Engagements through rigorous independent review. The Rocky Mountain Institute's accreditation under the Pegasus Guidelines validates the approach for climate-aligned aviation financing, enabling banks and investors to make informed decisions based on verified emissions data.
This standardized approach addresses aviation's fragmented sustainability reporting, where inconsistent methodologies have made meaningful comparisons impossible. The verified benchmark enables airlines to assess their operational efficiency accurately, investors to evaluate performance reliably, and corporations to report Scope 3 emissions with confidence.
Quarterly Updates Drive Accountability
The Flight Emissions Review will be updated quarterly, tracking performance changes and operational improvements across the industry. With hundreds of data points and detailed analysis across multiple categories, the report provides the most comprehensive view of aviation emissions performance available.

Irish service sector growth slows markedly in June, PMI shows

DUBLIN (Reuters) -Ireland's service sector expansion slowed down markedly in June as softer output, hiring activity and a decline in new export orders led to one of the weakest monthly readings in more than four years of unbroken growth, a survey showed on Thursday. The AIB Global S&P Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) fell to 51.5 from 54.7 in May, the weakest growth rate since January 2024 and the third-lowest mark since the sector's sharp rebound from COVID-19 lockdowns began in March 2021. The sector also outperformed the average for the wider euro zone - a 50.0 flash reading - by a tighter margin than during much of that run. The waning momentum contrasted with the Irish manufacturing PMI, which grew at the fastest pace in more than three years last month and at a sharper rate than services for just the second time during that period. New service sector business growth also slowed, with international demand falling for the first time in 20 months, which some firms attributed to weaker markets in the U.S. and Europe and ongoing global trade tensions. Employment growth continued but at a reduced pace and the level of outstanding business also decreased for the first time since the start of 2024. There was some relief for customers with the prices charged by service firms rising at the slowest rate in more than four years while the service providers themselves remained optimistic about future growth, albeit sentiment remained close to April's post-pandemic low. PM 'put on notice' and may go within months if Labour keeps performing poorly, two MPs say

Two senior Labour MPs have suggested the prime minister may have to go within months if the government continues to perform poorly. Sky News' deputy political editor Sam Coates said his sources - a member of the government and a prominent politician - have "put Sir Keir Starmer on notice". Both warned that, if Labour performs badly in next May's elections across Wales, Scotland and London, it could mark the end of his time in Downing Street. Coates added: "The level of unhappiness and despair in parts of the Labour Party is so striking that right now, on the first anniversary, I am hearing from ministers in government that Starmer might have to go in months." Reform UK is surging in the polls in Wales, while Labour faces a threat from left-wing parties such as the Greens in London. It comes as the prime minister made it clear that Rachel Reeves has his "complete support" as chancellor and remains integral to his project, Sky News's political editor Beth Rigby understands. She looked visibly upset during Prime Minister's Questions, with a spokesperson claiming she had been affected by a "personal matter". A day earlier, Sir Keir's controversial welfare bill was passed despite a sizeable rebellion from Labour MPs, with major U-turns meaning a new £5bn black hole has appeared in the country's finances. One senior figure told Rigby that the pair were as "as close politically" as any chancellor and prime minister have ever been. "She is going absolutely nowhere," they added. Ms Reeves's tears sent markets spiralling, with the value of the pound and long-term government bonds falling sharply. Later in the day Sir Keir, said Ms Reeves will be chancellor for a "very long time to come". The prime minister said it was "absolutely wrong" to suggest her tearful appearance in the Commons related to the welfare U-turn. "It's got nothing to do with politics, nothing to do with what's happened this week. It was a personal matter for her," he said while speaking to the BBC's podcast Political Thinking with Nick Robinson. "I'm not going to intrude on her privacy by talking to you about that. It is a personal matter." He said Ms Reeves has done a "fantastic job" and added: "She and I work together, we think together. In the past, there have been examples - I won't give any specific - of chancellors and prime ministers who weren't in lockstep. We're in lockstep."

OpenAI condemns Robinhood's ‘OpenAI tokens'

OpenAI wants to make clear that Robinhood's sale of 'OpenAI tokens' will not give everyday consumers equity — or stock — in OpenAI, the company said in a post from its official newsroom account on X. OpenAI says it does not endorse Robinhood's effort, nor was it involved in facilitating the token sale. 'These 'OpenAI tokens' are not OpenAI equity,' said OpenAI's newsroom account on Wednesday. 'We did not partner with Robinhood, were not involved in this, and do not endorse it. Any transfer of OpenAI equity requires our approval—we did not approve any transfer. Please be careful.' OpenAI's statement is a response to Robinhood's announcement earlier this week that it would started selling so-called tokenized shares of OpenAI, SpaceX, and other private companies to people in the European Union. Robinhood says the launch represents an attempt to give everyday people exposure to equity in the world's most valuable private companies via blockchain. Hours after announcing these token sales, Robinhood's stock price shot to an all-time high. But stock in private companies like OpenAI and SpaceX are not available to the public. That's what makes them private. They sell shares to investors of their choosing. So OpenAI is openly disavowing Robinhood's effort. In response to OpenAI's condemnation, Robinhood spokesperson Rouky Diallo told TechCrunch that OpenAI tokens were part of a 'limited' giveaway to offer retail investors indirect exposure 'through Robinhood's ownership stake in a special purpose vehicle (SPV).' That suggests Robinhood owns shares of a SPV that controls a certain number of OpenAI's shares. Like the tokens, shares of SPVs are not direct ownership of shares, either. They are ownership in a vehicle that owns the shares. In one way or another, Robinhood seems to be tying the price of its new tokenized product to the OpenAI shares in that SPV. But shares prices in an SPV can also differ from prices of an actual share of stock, as well. In Robinhood's help center, the company notes that when buying any of its stock tokens, 'you are not buying the actual stocks — you are buying tokenized contracts that follow their price, recorded on a blockchain.' 'While it is true that they aren't technically 'equity,' […] the tokens effectively give retail investors exposure to these private assets,' said Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev in a post on X on Wednesday. 'Our giveaway plants a seed for something much bigger, and since our announcement we've been hearing from many private companies that are eager to join us in the tokenization revolution.' OpenAI declined to comment further. Robinhood did not respond to TechCrunch's additional questions about its SPV. Private companies are known to push back against anything that could influence how their equity is valued. In recent months, humanoid robotics startup Figure AI sent cease-and-desist letters to two brokers running secondary markets that were marketing the company's stock. Of course, these situations are different, but most startups don't want people to believe that they've authorized share sales if they haven't.
