Tottenham targeting loan move for Portugal midfielder Joao Palhinha
The Portugal midfielder struggled with injury problems and only made six starts in the Bundesliga when fit under Bayern boss Vincent Kompany, which has opened the door for a temporary move back to London with Tottenham.
Spurs have plenty of options in midfield, but have multiple competitions to deal with in the 2025-26 season after their Europa League victory in May secured Champions League qualification and the addition of Palhinha would be a boost for new head coach Thomas Frank.
Palhinha, who turned 30 earlier this month, was linked with a transfer to Tottenham before he signed for Bayern.
The former Sporting Lisbon midfielder enjoyed a successful two years at Fulham, where he made 79 appearances and scored eight times to become a fan favourite at Craven Cottage.
Spurs secured the services of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham at the start of July, but failed in their pursuit of Nottingham Forest captain Morgan Gibbs-White and will now hope to land Palhinha on a season-long loan.

RB Leipzig have asked Chelsea about the possibility of including Tyrique George in a deal for Xavi Simons, according to reports. Chelsea's hierarchy have set their sights on signing Simons having already brought in Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, Liam Delap, Dario Essugo and Mamadou Sarr across a busy transfer window. However, the German outfit are said to be holding out a fee in the region of £60million for Simons and it remains to be seen if Chelsea will be prepared to stump up the required cash before the deadline. According to Fabrizio Romano, Leipzig are interested in Chelsea youngster George and have floated the idea of using the 19-year-old winger as a makeweight in a proposed deal for Simons during recent negotiations. It's claimed George 'wants to leave' Chelsea in search of regular playing time and a permanent move could be possible for the England Under-19 international. Leipzig's Bundesliga rivals Borussia Monchengladbach are also said to be monitoring George's situation in west London. Chelsea are determined to avoid a repeat of last season when Enzo Maresca's attacking options were left desperately thin on the ground following injuries to several key players – and Simons' versatility is greatly appealing to the Europa Conference League winners. Arsenal have also been eyeing a move for Simons, but the Gunners' interest remains just that for the time being and no concrete talks have taken place. The north London giants are, instead, prioritising a move for Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze. Simons, formerly of Paris Saint-Germain and PSV Eindhoven, is tied into a contract with Leipzig until June 2027. Hibs report and ratings from Dundee victory as Scotland striker stars
Scotland striker Kieron Bowie's quickfire double inspired Hibs to victory on the opening day of their Scottish Premiership campaign, as David Gray's men ran out 2-1 winners over Dundee at Dens Park. The Easter Road side, leg weary and heart sore after 120 brutal minutes in their Europa League loss to Midtjylland on Thursday night, showed ability and grit to make a triumphant start to their domestic season. Two goals in three first-half minutes from Bowie, the former Fulham forward opening his account for the season in impressive style, put Gray's men in control after half an hour of relatively uneventful play. A Jack Iredale slip allowed Finaly Roberts to grab one back for the hosts just five minutes later. But the visitors looked comfortable despite dipping energy levels. And they travel to Belgrade on Europa Conference League duty this week with confidence restored ahead of their third qualifying round clash with Partizan. Roared on by a large travelling support, Hibs struggled to break down their dogged opponents in a fairly dire opening spell, in terms of entertainment. Always in control, they were finding it hard to break through the massed ranks of Dark Blue jerseys. Bowie always looked the most likely, though. And he was rewarded for his bustling play with an opener after 27 minutes, pouncing quickly on a cross from the left that ricocheted off a defender – and spinning to finish smartly, low and hard into the far corner, with that mighty left boot. Three minutes later, the big man had his second, courtesy of some brilliant build-up play involving Iredale, who slipped a killer pass through for the underlapping Jordan Obita. The wingback's shot was saved by Dundee goalie Jon McCracken – but Bowie again put himself in the right place at the right time to bury the rebound. Just as Hibs supporters might have been beginning to dream of a big score, Dundee were gifted a lifeline, Iredale's loss of footing opening up a chance that Robertson did well to take. The visitors, to their credit, didn't have their rhythm disrupted too greatly by the loss of a goal. And the introduction of both Jamie McGrath and Josh Campbell early in the second half lifted Hibs, the former's corner kick deliveries providing two good chances for the latter. McCracken was equal to the task on both occasions, however, stopping Campbell's point-blank header and then producing a leg save to divert the attacking midfielder's left-footed strike. Bowie at the double as Hibs get first win of new Premiership season
Kieron Bowie struck a first-half double as Hibernian overcame their European exertions to inflict more early-season woe on new Dundee boss Steven Pressley with a 2-1 win at Dens Park in their Premiership opener. The Scotland forward notched twice in the space of three minutes to give the Easter Road side the initiative. Dundee, bidding to ignite some positivity following a demoralising Premier Sports Cup group-stage exit that included defeats by lower-league sides Airdrie and Alloa, hit back swiftly through Finlay Robertson. But Hibs – who arrived on Tayside on the back of a gruelling 120-minute encounter with Midtjylland in the Europa League on Thursday – were able to see out the second half in relatively comfortable fashion. Pressley, whose appointment in June was widely deemed underwhelming among supporters even before their cup calamity, included four summer signings in his starting XI but talismanic captain Simon Murray missed out through injury. Hibs boss David Gray opted to make just one change to the side that started the agonising extra-time defeat by Midtjylland despite having another testing European fixture to come away to Partizan Belgrade in the Conference League this Thursday. The Easter Road side had the majority of the ball in the early exchanges and made the breakthrough from their first clear opportunity in the 28th minute. It came with an element of fortune as Dundee got themselves in a mess trying to deal with a Jordan Obita cross into the box and the ball broke kindly to Bowie, who drilled a low angled finish past Jon McCracken from 10 yards out. Three minutes later, Bowie struck again. Jack Iredale's ball over the top released Obita who drove into the box and saw his effort blocked by McCracken, only for Bowie to follow up and drive home the rebound from a similar position to his first goal. Dundee were gifted a way back into the game in the 36th minute when a slip from Iredale allowed Ashley Hay to dispossess him and cut the ball back for Robertson, who fired home from just outside the six-yard box. Dee defender Luke Graham just failed to connect with a tantalising inswinging delivery from the left in the 59th minute. It was Hibs, however, who looked the likelier side to add to their lead in the closing half-hour, with substitute Josh Campbell seeing a header brilliantly saved by McCracken before the midfielder threatened with another couple of attempts after being picked out by corners from fellow substitute Jamie McGrath.
