Tourist deaths in Ibiza - three die in similar tragedies as Ibiza Rocks suspends events

Daily Record6 days ago
A 19-year-old has died at Ibiza Rocks just days after Evan Thomson, from Aberdeen, fell to his death at the same hotel.
A teenage British holidaymaker has died after plunging from the third floor at Ibiza Rocks - just two weeks after a Scots tourist died in similar circumstances.

The 19-year-old died instantly in the fall at the four-star hotel at the island's party resort of San Antonio on Monday. Two ambulances were sent to the scene but paramedics say there was nothing they could do to save him.

The tragedy, which is being investigated by police, occurred just after midnight, with the Civil Guard confirming this morning he was a British national. The hotel where the latest tragedy has occurred is the same one where Scots holidaymaker Evan Thomson fell to his death on July 7.

The 26-year-old, from Aberdeen, was on holiday with pals celebrating his birthday. Paramedics were called to the scene but he was pronounced dead in the grounds of the hotel.
Meanwhile, in August last year talented law student Emma Ramsay, from Hamilton, fell to her death from the sixth-floor of seafront four-star Hotel Vibra District in San Antonio.
Following a number of tragedies at the resort in the last year, here's everything we know so far.

Investigation launched
News emerged this morning that a 19-year-old had died at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel.
It is not yet clear who the teenage Brit was holidaying with and whether he fell from his room or another part of the hotel. Local officers have since confirmed in a statement an investigation has been launched following the tragedy.

A spokesman for the Civil Guard said: 'We are investigating the death of a 19-year-old British man at a hotel in San Antonio in Ibiza. The alarm was raised around 12.40am this morning.
'Our officers were sent to the scene but the man in question was already dead by the time help arrived. The fall was from the third floor of the hotel to an outside part of the complex.
'Court officials authorised the removal of his body at 2.40am this morning. The fall could be accidental based on the early information obtained from cameras but as part of the investigation possible witnesses will need to be located and interviewed. The results of the post-mortem will also be important to the investigation.'

Tragedy days before
The hotel where the latest tragedy has occurred is the same venue where a Scots holidaymaker fell to his death on July 7.
Evan Thomson, 26, from Aberdeen, was on holiday with pals celebrating his birthday.

Paramedics were called to the scene but he was pronounced dead in the grounds of the hotel. His mum Lel Kellighan revealed the news on social media a few days after her son died.
She said: 'I'm absolutely heartbroken to write and tell you all, earlier this week my son Evan was in a tragic accident whilst on holiday with his friends in Ibiza and sadly passed away. We are all absolutely broken. Please allow us some time.'
Concerns raised
In the days after Evan's death his loved ones raised questions about safety and blasted the hotel where he died over the way the situation was handled.

Evan's sister Teila said: 'Ibiza is known for its partying and it just stuns me that they don't have higher safety precautions. Pray nobody else suffers. And, once it did happen, the hotel's response was just completely heartbreaking; almost as if it never happened. I pray no other family has to go through this."
Friends who were with Evan claimed the hotel resumed normal operations just 90 minutes after his death. Blair Robertson, 25, had flown out the day before the tragedy and spent the night celebrating. He described their final night out as one of the best they had ever had together.

At around 6am he discovered Evan was no longer in their hotel room. Moments later, the group realised he had fallen from the balcony at the hotel.
Blair said: ' Security took us away to front desk. Paramedics didn't arrive for about 30 minutes. Forensic officers didn't speak English. We were just standing there, not knowing what was going on. Reception gave us false hope.
"We heard the jet washes cleaning the ground where Evan died. That was the worst thing for us — how fast they tried to get things back to normal."

Evan's girlfriend Remi Duncan, 23, added: 'It was disgusting. There was minimal respect for the situation, considering the music went back on soon after Evan had died. It puts a pit in your stomach.'
Hotel statement
Ibiza Rocks announced on Monday all scheduled events have been suspended in the wake of the two tragedies.

A statement from the hotel on Monday afternoon read: "We are deeply shocked and devastated by the recent incidents that have tragically occurred.
"Our priority is to support those affected and their loved ones during this incredibly difficult time, and to fully assist the authorities with their investigations.
"The safety and wellbeing of our guests has, and always will remain, our highest priority. Given the seriousness of the situation and out of respect for those involved, we believe it is right to pause our advertised events programme at this time.

"All customers will be informed directly via email."
The hotel had previously released a statement in the wake of the death of Scottish holiday maker Evan Thomson.
It read: 'This is a truly tragic and extremely sad situation. Our senior management team onsite did everything possible to help the police with their investigation into events leading up to Evan's death, and to provide constant support from our customer services manager to Evan's friends.'

Other incidents this year
In April, a 33-year-old British woman died at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel. Local police and paramedics rushed to the hotel, situated just metres from one of the world's most famous sunsets, after the alarm was raised around 6.30pm on April 30.
Emergency responders confirmed when they arrived the holidaymaker had gone into cardiac arrest and spent around 40 minutes practicing CPR on her to try to revive her.
She was declared dead at the scene after efforts to save her life proved unsuccessful. Well-placed sources said at the time there was nothing pointing to the death being suspicions.

On April 27, a 19-year-old Italian tourist of Turkish origin plunged to her death from the fourth-floor at the same hotel. She had flown to the island the previous day and gone out partying.
She was said at the time to have been trying to reach her room via a balcony from a shared area of the hotel after realising she didn't have her key card when she lost her footing and fell. Her lifeless body was discovered around 9am on April 27.
And last Monday a 25-year-old British tourist died in hospital from injuries he sustained in a fall from a supermarket car park in San Antonio the previous day.

He was rushed to an intensive care unit at a private island hospital following the incident.
Emma Ramsay
Emma, from Hamilton, tragically died after she plunged from the sixth-floor of seafront four-star Hotel Vibra District last August.

Mercy crews raced to the resort in San Antonio but the 19-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. Her mum Barbara Smith later took to social media to pay tribute to her daughter and "best friend".
The grieving parent shared a picture of Emma on Instagram. In a heartfelt message, Barbara said: 'My angel Emma I don't even know where to begin.
"You are my daughter, my best friend in the whole world and I am going to miss you more than words will ever express. Rest in peace my sweet angel and sleep tight, mummy loves you so so much.'
Emma, who had been studying at Strathclyde University, shared pictures and video on social media as she partied with friends in the hours before the horror incident took place.
TikTok clips showed her dancing in front of the camera before a night out at Hï Ibiza club. In other footage and images, she is shown celebrating with pals in an elevator before heading out on the town and posing opposite Cafe Mambo on a balcony at Cafe Del Mar.

Brit socialite Maxwell, 63, is serving 20 years in Florida after being convicted of offences including sex trafficking. The meeting came after President Donald Trump faced questions over his own links to Epstein, who killed himself in jail awaiting trial in 2019. A source, quoted by The Mail on Sunday, said: 'Ghislaine has never told her story to anyone in government before. 'At times it was very emotional but she answered every question asked of her. 'She was asked about a list of people including Prince Andrew, Bill Gates, Bill Clinton, Alan Dershowitz and powerful Wall Street financiers. 'It's ironic that Elon Musk kicked this whole thing off when he fell out with Trump and then made that post on X about Trump allegedly preventing the release of the full Epstein documents as some sort of 'cover-up'. Iraqi businessman granted asylum in UK ‘led billion-dollar oil smuggling plot to help fund Iran's terror state'

Trucks full of cash made from the scheme have allegedly been sent to Iran to finance the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps TERROR PLOT Iraqi businessman granted asylum in UK 'led billion-dollar oil smuggling plot to help fund Iran's terror state' Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) AN IRAQI businessman granted asylum in the UK has been accused of running a billion dollar oil smuggling plot to finance global terrorism and domestic tyranny by Iran. The Trump administration claims Salim Ahmed Said, 47, has been running a network of firms passing off Iranian oil as a product of Iraq to avoid sanctions for at least five years. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up Trucks full of cash made from the scheme have allegedly been sent to Iran to finance the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Iraqi Kurd Said became a British citizen after seeking refuge from the Saddam Hussein regime in the UK in the early 2000s. He owns a £27 million hotel in Kensington, West London, and runs two British companies blacklisted by the US Treasury. Said was placed under US sanctions on July 3 but UK authorities so far do not appear to have taken action against him. The US government said that some of the money from the plot had benefited the IRGC's elite Quds Force, a designated terrorist organisation which leads Tehran's overseas operations. The Quds Force is suspected of kidnapping and assassination plots in Britain, the US and Europe and supports terror groups including Hezbollah, Hamas, the Houthi movement, and Shia militias in Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan. US Treasury documents state: 'Salim Ahmed Said runs a network of companies that have been selling Iranian oil falsely declared as Iraqi oil since at least 2020. 'Said's companies use ship-to-ship transfers and other obfuscation techniques to hide their activities. 'Said's companies and vessels blend Iranian oil with Iraqi oil, which is then sold to Western buyers, via Iraq or the United Arab Emirates (UAE), as purely Iraqi oil using forged documentation to avoid sanctions.'

Family of missing Brit to fly to France for search after unsettling phone call

The family of missing Belfast man Robert Kincaid are racing to Paris in France after the 38-year-old disappeared after missing his flight to Dubin earlier this month The family of a missing man is flying to France in a frantic bid to track him down after he mysteriously vanished at a busy airport before strangers answered his phone. ‌ Robert Kincaid, 38, from the Tullycarnet area of East Belfast, hasn't been seen or heard from in 10 days after failing to catch his connecting flight from Charles De Gaulle Airport in Paris. ‌ The oil rig worker was travelling to Dublin on July 17 after a stint offshore in Benin, West Africa, but he never made it onboard his final flight. Since then, there's been radio silence. Worry turned to alarm when Robert's family tried to FaceTime him later that night and were shocked when the call was answered by a man they didn't recognise. ‌ Even more chillingly, a second attempt the next day connected to a woman with a crying baby in the background before the phone went dead for good. Now, his devastated family is preparing to head to France themselves in a last-ditch effort to find him. Speaking to Belfast Live, Robert's brother Louis said the whole ordeal has been a waking nightmare. He said: 'Robert had been working on an oil rig in Benin and was due to fly back on July 17. He missed his flight at ten past seven from Charles De Gaulle Airport, and now his phone is completely off.' ‌ The last contact came just after 8pm that night where Robert admitted he'd had a few drinks after missing his flight. But at 10pm, the situation took a chilling twist. His family said: 'We tried FaceTiming him and it was answered by a black man in what looked like a corrugated hut. He spoke broken English and said the phone battery was dying and then the call cut out. The next day, a woman answered with a baby crying in the background. Since then, nothing. No calls. No texts. Just silence.' The family has filed a missing person report with the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) and has been in touch with the British Embassy in Paris, but so far, they've been left in the dark. 'Everything's going through Interpol, but we've had no updates,' Louis said. 'The Embassy says Robert's not in any hospitals or medical centres, but they can't tell us much more. We are up to high dough with worry. This is completely out of character – he always keeps in touch.' Determined to do something, the family is now preparing to fly to France on Wednesday to launch their own search, despite knowing how overwhelming the task ahead is. Robert's brother continued: 'It'll be like looking for a needle in a haystack. But we can't just sit here and do nothing.'
