Paddleboard tragedy teen's school to celebrate his life on last day of term
The school attended by a Scots teenager who tragically drowned while paddleboarding is to honour him on the last day of term.
Alexander McNab, 15, was reported missing from the water at Lochore Meadows in Fife on Saturday, June 28. A major search effort began and tragically his body was recovered on Sunday afternoon at around 1.20pm.
He was a pupil at Auchmuty High School in Glenrothes, which has announced it will use the day to remember him as the school year ends on Thursday, July 3.
Students and staff have been invited to wear pink to celebrate his life, with a book of remembrance set up for anybody from the school community to leave a tribute.
A post on social media said the day will include opportunities for people to "remember Alex, share stories, laugh, cry and support each other".
It added: "Our thoughts, prayers and support remain with his family."
On Monday, Alexander's family shared a statement via Police Scotland in memory of their "much-loved son".
In it, they said: ' Alexander was much loved, caring, adventurous, bold, hard-working, ambitious and always looking out and caring for others.
'He is a much-loved son, brother, grandson, cousin, friend and boyfriend and a big part of his local community.
'Alexander will be forever missed by those that knew him and loved him.
'The family would appreciate privacy at this emotional time.'

Detective Sergeant Duncan Thompson said: 'Our thoughts are very much with Alexander's family at this very distressing time and we have specialist officers supporting them.'
A major search was launched to find the schoolboy at around 5.25pm on Saturday after emergency crews received a report of concern for a boy who had been out on the water.
Police Scotland, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, the Scottish Ambulance Service and HM Coastguard were in attendance to carry out extensive searches.
Since the tragic news of his death broke, a fundraising page has been set up to raise funds for his mum to help with funeral costs. It has since raised over £24,000 as of July 2.

Trade unionists in Scotland have questioned why MPs voted to proscribe Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation. Scots trade unionists have warned a vote to proscribe Palestine Action could "undermine efforts to counter real terrorist organisations". MPs voted by an overwhelming majority last night to ban the activist group after it broke into an RAF base in England and spray-painted several aircraft. Six people were later arrested after Palestine Action shared footage of the break-in on social media. The group previously broke into a Thales defence factory in Glasgow in 2022, causing £1,130,783 in damages using pyrotechnics and smoke bombs. The decision to ban Palestine Action, which amends the Terrorism Act 2000, is expected to be signed by Home Secretary Yvette Cooper and come into effect later this week. Once in effect, supporting Palestine Action will become a criminal offence, with membership or expressing support for the direct action group punishable by up to 14 years in prison. But the decision has been questioned by the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC). Dave Moxham, STUC Deputy General Secretary, told the Record: "It is one thing to oppose the activities of Palestine Action using the courts if laws are broken, but completely another to proscribe it as a terrorist organisation. "Last night's vote shifts the goal posts on the definition of terrorism. The Government is overreaching in a way that could have a profound impact on the rights of protest and freedom of expression. It also potentially undermines efforts to counter real terrorist organisations which advocate violence against the civilian population.' The Aberdeen Trades Union Council also questioned the ban and called for other Scottish trade union members to speak up on the issue. In a statement, it said: "Despite mass peaceful protest against the genocide in Gaza, the British State remains complicit in the erasure of the Palestinian people. "We stand in support of Palestine Action – a direct action group that has been protesting against the supply of weapons by the UK government to the Israeli Military. Spraying paint and breaking windows is not terrorism. Israel's genocidal war is. "We condemn government repression of the rights of protesters. As a movement we will do everything we can to defend civil disobedience and oppose Parliament's proscription of Palestine Action." Anas Sarwar, the Scottish Labour leader, this week backed Cooper's decision to ban the group. "I'm all for freedom of speech. I'm all for freedom of protest. And people have been expressing their views very strongly," he told the Record. "But people who use the name of Palestine to cross a red line, to break into RAF facilities, to attempt to tamper with RAF jets, are doing a disservice to the cause they claim to represent. "There are so many phenomenal pro-Palestinian organisations who do not fall for acts of vandalism, or attacks on our defence infrastructure, or who fall into prejudice and hate, but who rightly speak out against violence and for peace - not just peace abroad, but peace and security here at home too. "Those people who use the name of Palestine to do such horrific actions should face the full force of the law. So I do support the actions of the Home Secretary."

British tourist dies on cruise ship in Greece as probe launched
An investigation has been launched after a British tourist died onboard a cruise ship in Greece. The Corfu Port Authority confirmed that the man, aged 67, died on the ship that was flying a Maltese flag. The Mirror reports that his body has been taken to hospital for a post mortem. A statement from Corfu Port Authority reads: "In the morning hours today, the Corfu Port Authority was informed of the death of a 67-year-old foreign passenger (British citizen) on a cruise ship flying the Maltese flag in the port of Corfu. Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said: 'We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Greece and are in contact with the local authorities.' Earlier this week, a British tourist was reported missing after the rental car he had hired was found abandoned in Karpathos. Police say the 60-year-old man has not returned to his rented accommodation and a search and rescue operation has been launched. According to local media, his hire car was discovered locked in the Korfasia area of Avlonas, which is close to the more popular holiday island of Rhodes. The man was last seen by the owner of the holiday accommodation on Friday, June 27, according to a police source.

'Predatory' sex beast jailed after raping teenage girl in Inverness
Cameron Huggins was caged at the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday. A remorseless sex offender has been jailed for four years for raping a teenage girl. Cameron Huggins was caged after forcing himself on the youngster in Inverness. The 22-year-old abused the teen, who can't be named for legal reasons, in April 2023. He insisted he was innocent and went on trial over the claims. But he was convicted at the High Court in Edinburgh on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, and returned to the same court yesterday, Wednesday, July 2, 2025, to learn his fate. He was sentenced to four years in prison over the serious sexual assault, placed on the Sex Offenders' Register for life, and made the subject of a Non-Harassment Order (NHO). Speaking after the sentence, Police Scotland Detective Constable Emma Ellis, of Inverness Domestic Abuse and Rape Investigation Unit, said: "Huggins is an abusive individual who has shown no remorse for his violent and predatory actions. "We would encourage anyone who has experienced any form of sexual or violent offence, regardless of when it occurred, to report it. We will investigate thoroughly and have specially trained officers and partner agencies who will support you throughout."
