Khandelwal steps down as Deutsche India CEO, to focus on startups

BENGALURU: After a five-year stint, Dilipkumar Khandelwal stepped down as CEO of Deutsche India, head of global technology centres, and MD & global CIO of corporate functions in Deutsche Bank.
Sources told TOI that he is beginning a new innings in the startup space.
As CEO, his role was focused on optimising multiple, integrated functions that deliver solutions to the global organisation. Prior to this, he was the former managing director of SAP Labs India.
He oversaw tech centres across Bengaluru, Pune, Bucharest, Berlin, and Cary. Deutsche India has 23,000 employees, with over 8,000 in the India tech centres, making up 25% of the global workforce.
When TOI reached out to the firm, its spokesperson said, 'This decision follows months of careful planning, and we are deeply grateful for his (Khandelwal's) invaluable contributions to the company's journey. We are well-positioned for the next chapter of growth.
The bank has a transition plan in place, and Dilip will remain with the bank until the end of June to oversee the transition. Under Dilip's guidance, we've built a foundation of technology and a culture of growth and innovation.'
The India technology centre—the technology unit of Deutsche India—has emerged as a pivotal hub for technology-driven transformation across the bank's global operations. The centre focuses on leveraging cloud, AI, and GenAI to develop services across all key functions: risk, finance, operations, and technology. Khandelwal is also the founder of Plaksha University.

Pune: MSRDC wants to transform Pune-Mumbai Expressway into a 10-lane "superhighway" to tide over traffic snarls and cater to the future demands of vehicular movement along the corridor, one of the busiest in the country. "This is an upgrade from our earlier proposal to make the expressway an eight-lane facility. The latest upgrade will cost around Rs1,420 crore. The DPR is being finalised and will be submitted to govt for approval," Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) vice-chairman and managing director Anilkumar Gaikwad told TOI on Friday. Inaugurated in 2002, the expressway is a 94.6-km stretch connecting the bustling metropolis of Mumbai to Pune, Maharashtra's industrial and educational hub. It currently carries an estimated 65,000 vehicles daily during weekdays. The number increases to over 100,000 during weekends. With traffic volume increasing by approximately 5-6% on a year-on-year basis, the MSRDC's proposed expansion is seen as a long-term solution to the congestion. The latest project involves widening of the current infrastructure. The financing model — whether Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) or annuity — is yet to be decided. The current toll collection for the Pune-Mumbai Expressway is valid till 2045. MSRDC would seek an extension if the expressway widening gets approval to make the project self-sustaining. At present, the journey between Mumbai and Pune takes about two hours under normal conditions. However, weekend rush hours and holiday traffic can stretch that drive by an additional hour. According to MSRDC, the proposed expansion could virtually eliminate this extended travel time, offering smoother rides even during peak periods. If approved and executed as envisioned, the expansion could become one of India's most ambitious road infrastructure upgrades — a critical step toward matching the country's rapid growth in vehicle ownership with high-capacity transit corridors, an MSRDC official said. MLA Mahesh Landge has in a social media post recently said the expansion would ensure necessary respite from traffic congestion on the e-way. "This is a long-awaited demand. The expansion is needed considering the heavy traffic along the e-way," he told TOI. People frequently travelling on the e-way are of the view that the state govt should not delay in the expansion work and carry out the project in phases to ensure that there was no traffic congestion. "Frequent traffic snarls are becoming an impediment for travellers. The expansion proposal should be immediately cleared and work should commence," said Manisha Khandekar, a frequent traveller. The expressway — which begins at Kalamboli in Navi Mumbai and ends at Kiwale near Pune — is India's first access-controlled express highway. While work on the 13-km "missing link" project is on, which will facilitate 10 lanes in the Khandala Ghat section, the proposed expansion would cover the remaining 67km of the route. According to MSRDC, land acquisition challenges were expected to be minimal. "MSRDC already holds land adjacent to most parts of the existing expressway. Only limited additional land near tunnels will be needed. These land parcels are near the tunnel zones," said an official involved with the project. Musk's Starlink finally gets government licence to launch satcom services

Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Starlink got approval for three licences - Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite (GMPCS), Commercial Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT), and Internet Service Provider (ISP) - which will enable the company launch a slew of satellite-based communication services in India, ranging from consumer to enterprise internet solutions. TOI was the first to report in its June 4 editions that the govt has decided to approve Starlink's licence applications, which had been pending for the past three-four years, after the company agreed to abide by security and other requisite conditions. Starlink, which becomes the third telecom company to receive the GMPCS licence after Bharti group-backed Eutelsat OneWeb and Jio SES, is expected to get trial spectrum over the coming weeks. However, the company is not likely to launch consumer and enterprise services any time soon, since none of the satcom licence holders have been allotted spectrum yet. Recommendations regarding the method of administrative allocation of satcom spectrum, as well as the charges, have been submitted by regulator Trai to govt, but no final decision has been taken on the matter. Starlink will also have to put the ground infrastructure within India to correspond with its satellites and enable communication services. "This will take months to build, and will require approvals from security agencies," sources said. Starlink operates a constellation of Low-Earth Orbit satellites that are positioned around 550 km above the earth and closer than traditional geostationary satellites.

Tariffs have led to caution in the life sciences segment: Cognizant's Gummadi
Bengaluru: As clients look for cost optimisation, they aim to break silos and move towards consolidating their IT services partners. "They want a partner who can give end-to-end solutions," Surya Gummadi, President of the Americas business at Cognizant , said during the recent Bank of America Securities 2025 Global Technology Conference. With GenAI disrupting businesses, Gummadi felt pricing will evolve significantly in the next six months as clients move towards outcome-based said AI brought a great deal of uncertainty, adding to the macroeconomic pressures. That, he points out, is the difference between the previous cycles of the economic crisis. He, however, believes GenAI will create newer opportunities for Cognizant. Meanwhile, the tariff war triggered by US President Donald Trump impacted business sentiment in life sciences, product and manufacturing, as well as retail, he told Bank of America analysts. "There is some caution in the healthcare space. Tariffs have led to caution in the life sciences segment. Product and manufacturing clients are dealing with tariff uncertainty, and retail clients have also shown it in their guidance. All this is having a cascading effect on IT projects," Gummadi said. Despite the tough environment, Cognizant signed three mega deals by the end of the second quarter. Cognizant started to see an uptick in deal momentum, in general. Compared to 2023, when the firm signed 17 large deals, the New Jersey-headquartered IT services firm signed 29 large deals in 2024. In a choppy environment, CTS managed to get an extension of its contract with the healthcare client, which is a $1 billion deal. The full-year trailing 12-month booking for 2024 was $27.1 billion.
