Mini-LED TVs don't have to be expensive — this 55-inch model just went on sale for $379

If you've been keeping your eye out this year for a budget-friendly TV with built-in smart features, you're in luck: One of the best-kept secrets in affordable TVs just got even better.
The 55-inch TCL QM5K just crashed to $379 at Best Buy. It's one of the cheapest Mini-LED TVs on shelves this year, and it's a great fit for folks whose number-one priority is saving money, but who'd rather not scrape the bottom of the barrel for a cheap TV.
The QM5K arrives with built-in Google TV features for all of your streaming needs, plus Dolby Vision support. Its handiest feature is its Mini-LED backlighting, which is almost unheard of at this price point. If you're going to shop in this price range, I recommend going with the QM5K over a super-cheap TV from a brand like Insignia or Onn.
Given its entry-level status, the QM5K sits lower on the performance chart than the step-up TCL QM6K, but it's very handy to have Mini-LED local dimming at this price point — especially if you're trying to avoid buying an edge-lit TV (which I recommend you do).
It's very handy to have Mini-LED local dimming at this price point.
The QM5K features three HDMI inputs rather than the usual four, but thankfully, its built-in smart platform ought to be robust enough to forgo the use of a dedicated streaming device. It arrives with Google TV baked right into the software, which is one of my preferred smart platforms due to its easy-to-navigate interface and sensational app support. The QM5K isn't a fully-fledged gaming machine, but it'll support 4K gaming up to 60Hz. If you're a casual console gamer, this is pretty much the best you can hope for within the QM5K's price range. As someone who helps people shop for TVs, the QM5K has been a mainstay on my list of ultra-affordable recommendations since its debut last month. It's not a TV whose picture will turn heads, but if you're looking for a reliable 4K TV for everyday use, the QM5K is a better choice than most options in this price range (sorry, Insignia TVs).

Best Buy Wants to Send You Back to School With a 4.8-Star HP 2-in-1 Laptop for Mere Peanuts

A new school year probably means a new laptop, especially for someone headed off to their freshman year of college. The helpful orientation guides will no doubt direct you to the campus bookstore to check out their laptops in all their outrageously overpriced glory, so the smart move is to hit Best Buy's Back to School sale and snag the HP OmniBook 5 Flip 2-in-1, a touchscreen laptop-tablet hybrid that can do it all for just $400 — a huge price break from its usual list price of $700. Everything a student needs, or frankly everything anyone in the market for a great laptop needs, is present and accounted for in the OmniBook 5. Start with the 14-inch touchscreen that gives users a full tablet experience on a 2K resolution screen. Add the Intel Core 5 processor, 512GB of storage, greasy-fast WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 connections, and high-end camera and speakers built in, and this is a $400 steal for student and parent alike. See at Best Buy We love how the HP OmniBook 5 can take on four different configurations and be equally productive and effective in all of them. There's conventional laptop mode, tent mode for using the touchscreen while the OmniBook stands on its own, reverse mode for screen-sharing, and full tablet mode, where an optional stylus would be a great addition. Regardless of how you decide to fold it, the Intel Core 5 120U processor is your ticket to great productivity and multitasking, and when combined with the 2K Full HD+ display and the Intel Graphics card, turns the OmniBook 5 into an amazing streaming device. The videoconferencing and video calls run through the 5MP infrared camera which has a built-in shutter you can close for privacy, an integrated dual-array digital microphone setup, and HD Audio through the stereo speakers. The HP OmniBook 5 looks great on a desk, but it's really made to use on the go. It's a teeny 0.73 inches 'thick' with the lid closed and weighs barely over 3.5 pounds, so it's an easy add to any backpack or other carrying bag. The 21.5-hour battery life is proof HP had students in mind when they designed the OmniBook 5, to have things covered when they rush out the door without the USB-C power adapter. The HP OmniBook 5 was released just this year, and has all of the built-in features and perks to be future-proof for a four-year school stint and possibly longer. Make Best Buy's big sale your first Back to School shopping stop and grab this 14-inch 2-in-1 laptop-tablet hybrid down for just $400. See at Best Buy

Hurry! This 65-inch TCL Mini-LED TV just crashed to under $900 on Amazon

Big screen TVs are on the rise, but high prices might be a major concern. Luckily, there are tons of sweet TV deals on big-screen screens with excellent picture performance, and I think I've found one that's worth the investment. Right now, you can get the 65-inch TCL QM7K Mini-LED TV for $898 on Amazon. That's a huge slashing on a four-star TV with a multitude of features to try. Its entire range is also slashed right now, meaning you can get a 75-inch or 85-inch TV for much less. The TCL QM7K is a budget-friendly Mini-LED TV that is perfect for folks who want to upgrade to a truly impressive TV without breaking the bank. It features built-in Google TV with Chromecast, a slate of sought-after gaming features (such as HDMI 2.1 and 4K gaming up to 144Hz), and a bright, colorful picture worthy of movie night. In our TCL QM7K QD-Mini LED TV review we said the Editor's Choice TV is an affordable TV you can count on. TCL TVs are always perfect value propositions, especially when you're looking for a large screen to fill your entertainment setup. Big-screen fervor is still in motion, and TV prices — even at higher sizes — are still plenty cheap right now. The TCL QM7K is an adequate big-screen value. It's loaded with tons of incredible features that make it a stellar pick in the Mini-LED TV camp, especially for gamers. Its 144Hz refresh rate, VRR capabilities, and 13.1ms of input latency packs aa punch for both console and PC gamers. But even if you're not in the gaming sphere, the QM7K runs on Google TV, netting you access to many of the best streaming services. We tend to like Google TV and Roku over most of the other offerings in TV interfaces, largely given their simplistic navigation and myriad free channels. We did note in our TCL QM7K Mini-LED TV review that it has some poor audio, despite the 40W speaker system, which is par for the course with most budget TVs. You can always pair it up with one of the best soundbars to amplify the audio performance, or you can go with a full AV receiver to get even better sound. A Mini-LED TV like the QM7K might not be what you're looking for, though. If you're more on the hunt for one of the best OLED TVs, the LG C5 OLED is a great place to start.

The latest MacBook Air with M4 is down to its lowest price ever

If you need a laptop for school or work, our top recommendation is Apple's 13-Inch MacBook Air with the M4 chip, which is at an all-time low price of $799 ($200 off) at Amazon and Best Buy. The machine is thin and light, yet its M4 chip is powerful enough to handle more intense workloads, including 4K video editing, or keeping dozens of tabs open. It can even play games like Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate and Dead Island 2 at respectable frame rates. The M4 MacBook Air has a speedy processor, and double the RAM of previous models. It has a thin and light design, all day battery life, and still starts with 256GB of storage. One of the biggest changes with this generation of MacBook Air is that Apple finally bumped the default amount of RAM from 8GB up to 16GB. Having double the amount of memory compared to earlier models will allow you to run more apps simultaneously without slowdown. The entry-level MacBook Air with M4 still starts with 256GB of storage, which can't be upgraded, so you may want to pick up a configuration with a larger SSD instead if you work with a lot of large files. The M4 chip powering the laptop is over 20 percent faster than the M3, according to tests we conducted while reviewing the machine. We don't expect it to struggle at all during everyday tasks like streaming video, or working on spreadsheets and documents. The processor also yields great battery life, allowing you to get through a day of work or study without reaching for the charger. This is the laptop I use for my work at The Verge, and I'm able to write and go to meetings all day without worrying about the battery dying on me. The MacBook Air's 12-megapixel webcam is sufficient for video calls with friends or colleagues, and its speakers sound better than you might be expecting for a laptop this size. And if you need a laptop with a larger screen, the 15-inch MacBook Pro with M4 is on sale starting at $999 ($200 off) at Amazon and Best Buy.
