In celebration of SG60, Scoot sent three content creators and their loved ones on boundary-pushing trips that sparked discovery and deepened ties
From Shantou to Perth and Ipoh, these Singaporean families found fresh ways to reconnect through travel with Scoot.
Sometimes, the essence of travel extends beyond discovering new destinations. It lies in the meaningful connections formed and fresh perspectives gained through shared experiences with loved ones.
As Singapore marks its 60th anniversary, home-grown airline Scoot is celebrating uniquely Singaporean traits: a boundary-pushing spirit and a shared curiosity that spans generations.
The third instalment of its National Day campaign invites families and loved ones across the nation to venture beyond their comfort zones. Through trips to destinations within Scoot's network, three content creators discover renewed appreciation for the people closest to them.
Uncovering the beauty of generational differences in Ipoh
Ms Pamela Lee Nur Shuhadah , for example, never thought that her recent girls-only trip with her mother would turn out to be such an enlightening one for both of them.
On their
Scoot trip to Ipoh , Ms Lee, a 25-year-old, realised that despite their close relationship, they were polar opposites as travellers.
'I'm an overpacker; she brings just enough. She's super prepared; I'm always just winging it. And she's so carefree, whereas I'm too careful,' she says.
Nevertheless, the opportunity to explore a new city for the first time together – including a memorable batik painting session – while navigating each other's travel quirks, helped them gain a deeper understanding of each other and strengthened their mother-daughter bond more than ever.
'She never settles, and she's not afraid of venturing beyond what she knows. This trip showed me that no matter how old she gets, she's always going to be pushing boundaries. And that inspires me a lot,' says Ms Lee.

Embracing adventure in Perth
It was also a trip of firsts for
actor-host J Jaikishan and his mother. While they usually
travel to Perth to visit his sister during her school breaks, they experienced the Australian city properly as tourists for the first time – with Scoot.
On their trip, the mother-son duo went sandboarding down the dunes in Lancelin, and visited the Caversham Wildlife Park to mingle with animals up close and personal – two activities that Mr Kishan quips his mother was much more enthusiastic about than he was.
'She was just going up and down the sand dunes, and asking to feed snakes. Meanwhile, I'm like 'life is already so difficult, can I do something more relaxing instead, please?',' jokes the 32-year-old.
According to Mr Kishan, the multiple holidays with his mother over the years, culminating in this recent Perth trip, helped him realise how much his mother had come out of her shell – and how proud it made him.
'My mum has been a very giving person her whole life, and now, to see her put herself first and take charge of what she wants to do – it's also reminded me to stop second-guessing myself. I hope to be more like her!'
Mr Kishan's mum surprised him with her sense of adventure in Perth, from surfing sand dunes to meeting animals up close at wildlife parks.

Bonding over heritage in Shantou
Emcee-host
Charmaine Yee's trip to Shantou, on the other hand, was a multi-generational affair involving her mother, husband and two-year-old daughter Mila.
Through a hiking expedition around the Tashan Scenic Area, a Teochew png kueh-making session and savouring local delicacies like beef hot pot and goose meat, the whole family bonded over the many heritage discoveries Shantou has to offer.
'This trip reminded me that stepping into the unknown often brings the richest, most surprising experiences, especially when shared across generations – like when Mila tried goose meat for the first time and loved it, and when we attempted to make our own kueh, which made for a rich experience,' explains the 38-year-old former radio DJ.
The Shantou trip also marked a subtle shift in family roles. Says Ms Yee: 'My mum said she saw a new side of me – not just as her daughter, but now as a mother myself, navigating travel with a toddler.
'My mum used to plan every family trip. Now, she's taken on the role of grandmother – bonding with Mila, sharing stories, and simply being present.'
Ms Yee's multi-generational trip to Shantou was filled with heritage eats and family bonding time – even for little Mila.

Why Scoot is championing meaningful travel
'At Scoot, we believe that travel is more than just a journey – it's an opportunity to connect with others and forge deeper relationships. For this year's SG60 National Day campaign, we want to spotlight the spirit of stepping out of one's comfort zone, whether in travel or in our relationships with loved ones,' says Ms Agatha Yap, Scoot's director of Marketing, Communications and Loyalty.
She adds: 'As a proudly Singaporean brand, it's incredibly meaningful for us to contribute to the story of our nation's 60th anniversary. This campaign reflects not only our heritage but also our belief in the power of connection through travel.
'In a world full of distractions, we're often guilty of not being present when we're with our loved ones. By showcasing unique journeys that link people and cultures, we hope to celebrate the values that define Singapore and our Singaporean culture: unity, resilience and the spirit of exploration. We're honoured to be part of the Singapore story, helping our fellow citizens and residents alike to connect and forge lasting memories with their loved ones.'
This SG60, Scoot is celebrating the journeys that bring families and loved ones closer together.

Through these trips, the airline also hopes to inspire more travellers to embark on their own adventures with their families and loved ones to destinations within Scoot's network, to exchange stories, and connect across generations.
And while stepping out of their comfort zone for a holiday took some getting used to, Ms Lee, Mr Kishan and Ms Yee all went away with new post-holiday perspectives about their travelling companions.
For all three content creators, these family trips have redefined quality time with their loved ones. Many more such holidays are already in the works, and they encourage others to do the same with their families.
'Book that trip! You'll have an amazing time together – so much so that you'll end up planning for another trip, on your current trip,' says Ms Lee.

NDP 2025: Crowds gather at Marina Bay as celebrations extend beyond Padang for the first time, Singapore News

Even as people were taking their seats in Padang, the Marina Bay area was with buzzing with various local acts performing at the Waterfront Promenade entertaining the crowd with a mix of pop tracks and National Day Parade theme songs. More than 200,000 are expected to be in the area to be part of Singapore's 60th birthday bash. Among the crowd was a Singapore couple, who arrived as early at 2.30pm to secure good spots to watch the festivities and even set up a tripod to capture photos. Soaking in the National Day Parade atmosphere for the first time were 20-year-olds Ashraff and Haini, who are especially looking forward to the fireworks — particularly the special SG60 finale feature at the end. Ashraff also surprised Haini with her favourite perfume, given in celebration of her birthday three days earlier, as they enjoyed a picnic with a spread of food. Another Singaporean who was in the thick of action with her immediate and extended family was 30-year-old Jean Toh. Toh's family, who usually gather at their parents' house to watch the celebrations on TV, arrived around 2pm to reserve good spots for the event. She also said that her 8-year-old son was especially excited to see the fly-past. 'Take Singapore as an inspiration' Ato Wright, who arrived from Ghana, West Africa, on Aug 6, said he was very impressed by Singapore's success. Speaking to AsiaOne, the YouTuber, also known as Red Ringo, credited former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew and Singapore's leadership as key reasons for his interest in the country. "A country like Ghana has so many resources, but we suffer because of poor leadership and corruption. I hope we can learn from Singapore, and I will keep telling people back home about Singapore," said Wright, adding that he sees Singapore as an inspiration for education, leadership, and technology. "I always take Singapore as an inspiration for developing countries." Wright, who will be in Singapore for a week, said that during his visit, he managed to explore religious sites and cultural areas. He also shared his love for Maxwell Food Centre and tried different types of food, including Indian, Chinese, Malay, and Vietnamese cuisines during his stay. To commemorate the SG60 milestone, the scale of NDP 2025 is different from previous parades with the national day live show extended from Padang to Marina Bay for the first time. This year's NDP will also feature a first-ever "Jump of Unity" with the Red Lions and Naval Divers landing at two iconic locations: the Padang and Marina Bay. [[nid:721156]]

SINGAPORE - Thousands of people turned up in force with their umbrellas, picnic mats and portable fans at Marina Bay and around the Padang as they gathered ahead of Singapore's 60th birthday bash on Aug 9. Despite the sweltering heat, prime spots to catch the National Day Parade (NDP) live show and the fireworks around Marina Bay were mostly packed by 3pm, with those gathered in red and white in high spirits. This is the first time the NDP live show will extend , as part of an 'expanded canvas', from the Padang to Marina Bay. About 200,000 people are expected to throng Marina Bay, while an estimated 27,000 spectators will be at the Padang, where the main show will take place. Delivery driver Nasser Ali, 40, had arrived with his family of seven at the Marina Bay waterfront promenade at about 2.30pm to snag a front-row seat to the festivities, along with two other families. The group of about 15 had come prepared with camping chairs, umbrellas, portable fans, a foldable table, and books and games to keep the children busy while waiting. Delivery driver Nasser Ali (in beige hat), 40, had arrived with his family of seven and their friends at the Marina Bay waterfront promenade at about 2.30pm to snag a spot to catch the National Day Parade festivities. ST PHOTO: WONG YANG 'This is our first time doing this, so we are quite excited to be spending time together this way with our friends and their children. I think we will have a great view of the fireworks,' said Mr Nasser. Others had also begun gathering early to secure a vantage point for the much-anticipated fireworks display. Filipina domestic workers Rhowena Galanza, Melba Pagunsan and Evelyn Villanueva, who were perched under their umbrellas by the Marina Bay waterfront, said they arrived at 10am , having planned the outing for a few weeks. The trio, who live near one another in the Clementi area, said they had caught the festivities around Marina Bay over the past two weekends - when two of the last NDP previews took place - and enjoyed the fireworks and atmosphere. Armed with food - a large rotisserie chicken, rice and snacks - they said they have been gathering every National Day for almost 20 years. Amid the 31 deg C heat and then thunder that was heard rumbling at around 3.20pm, Ms Rhowena said: 'Rain or shine, we'll be here!' Filipina domestic helpers Rhowena Galanza, Melba Pagunsan and Evelyn Villanueva basked in their over 20-year tradition of catching the fireworks display at Marina Bay on Aug 9. ST PHOTO: FATIMAH MUJIBAH She also said her group of friends made a makeshift shelter in 2024 when it started pouring amid the festivities, so they were undeterred by the prospect of rain. The waterfront at Marina Bay was replete with activities that began as early as 10am, from interactive booths, to carnival games and food stalls. At a food fair along Bayfront Avenue, crowds were fairly thin at about 3pm, though more people were starting to enter. Tourists , Mrs Zenura Clifford, 53, and Mr Laurence Clifford, 63, had come from Ilo Ilo in the Philippines to celebrate Singapore's 60th birthday. The couple, who were in Singapore during the Republic's 50th birthday in 2015, said they were hoping to get some snacks before finding a spot to await the fireworks. 'We love Singapore so much that we visit about four times a year, and National Day here is really special. We are excited for the show,' said Mrs Clifford, who is self-employed. ST PHOTO: WONG YANG The party atmosphere was also in the air near the Padang, as hordes of people in red and white streamed in from City Hall MRT station, many with flags in hand and children in tow. One of them was Madam Serena Chen, 34, who arrived at about 2pm , more than three hours before the parade was due to start. She will be watching the parade with her son, nine; daughter , six; and 68-year-old mother. 'We were so excited that we got tickets to the NDP this year, because the last time my children saw the parade was years ago. They were still babies then, so they could not remember much,' said Madam Chen, a financial adviser. 'It is especially special because it is Singapore's 60th birthday. My daughter is also really excited about seeing the fireworks in person.' For Madam Sukainah Shahri, 33, her children are most looking forward to the mobile column. The NDP 2025 mobile column will showcase 170 air, land and maritime assets from the Singapore Armed Forces , Home Team, and Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore. Madam Sukainah, who works in healthcare, said her husband had booked a room for the family at a hotel nearby. 'Before the fireworks, we are taking the kids to see the mobile column, as it makes its way towards the Padang,' said Madam Sukainah, who has three children aged three, four and six. 'We usually catch the NDP on TV, but this year, we wanted it to be special for the kids. So we can't wait for tonight,' she said.
