TAMPA, Fla., Aug. 14, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- LM Funding America, Inc. (NASDAQ: LMFA) ('LM Funding' or the 'Company'), a Bitcoin mining and technology-based specialty finance company, today reported financial results for the three months ended June 30, 2025.
Q2'25 Financial Highlights
Total revenue for the quarter was $1.9 million dollars, down 18.7% sequentially from Q1 2025 and down 36.0% year-over-year. The Company mined 18.4 Bitcoins during the quarter, down 24.3% sequentially, at an average price of approximately $98,100. The sequential decline was due to higher curtailment as a result of peak summer months and downtime due to the relocation of approximately 800 miners from a third party hosting site to the Company's wholly-owned site in Oklahoma.
The Company generated approximately $223,000 in curtailment and energy sales for the quarter, up 49.2% sequentially.
Mining margin improved to 41.0%, compared with 38.5% in the first quarter 2025, driven by the power sales offsetting digital mining cost of revenues and increased operational efficiency from the Company's vertical integration strategy.
Operating expenses, including staff costs & payroll, professional fees, SG&A and other operating costs, increased by 16.6% year-over-year and 2.5% sequentially to $2.0 million driven by increased legal and consulting costs tied to expansion initiatives and staffing costs for Oklahoma site.
Net income for the quarter was $0.1 million and Core EBITDA 1 was $2.6 million, both driven by a $3.8 million gain on fair value of Bitcoin held on the balance sheet as of June 30, 2025.
Cash was approximately $0.4 million and Bitcoin holdings totaled 155.5 Bitcoin, valued at $16.7 million based on Bitcoin price of approximately $107,170, as of June 30, 2025.
Net book value of LM Funding stockholders' equity was approximately $31.9 million, or $6.21 per share 2, as of June 30, 2025.
As of July 31, 2025 the Company held 150.4 Bitcoin, valued at approximately $18.0 million, based on a Bitcoin price of $120,000 as of August 11, 2025.
Q2'25 and Recent Operational Highlights
Mississippi 11 MW acquisition: On August 1, 2025 LM Funding announced it entered into a definitive asset purchase agreement to acquire a 6.4-acre Bitcoin mining site in Mississippi with an anticipated 11 MW interconnect from Greenidge Generation Holdings Inc. ('Greenidge') for $3.9 million in cash. The purchase includes the real property and onsite power infrastructure—including a 3,000 kVA transformer relocated to the parcel, with 7.5 MW operational. Closing is targeted on or before September 16, 2025, subject to customary due diligence and other conditions.
Oklahoma 2 MW expansion: The project remains on track to be energized later this year, with immersion containers expected to be delivered in Q3 2025. This expansion positions the Company to add 2 MW of capacity and benefit from immersion cooling's improved thermal performance and operational stability in high-heat conditions.
Power grid integration strategy: In the second quarter, the Company generated $223,000 in curtailment and energy sales by selling power back to the grid during peak demand periods. This amount was applied as a reduction to digital mining cost of revenue, contributing in part to the improvement in mining margins from 38.5% in the first quarter 2025 to 41.0% in the second quarter 2025. The initiative continued to gain momentum, with July 2025 curtailment and energy sales reaching approximately $66,000. This approach continues to allow the Company to maximize the value of its power sites and create a partial hedge against Bitcoin price volatility.
Management Commentary
'We continue to advance our vertical integration and disciplined growth strategy,' commented Bruce Rodgers, Chairman and CEO of LM Funding. 'In the second quarter, we relocated approximately 800 hosted, next-generation miners, completing the final step of our hosting exit. In addition, our 2 MW immersion mining expansion at our Oklahoma site is on track for energization later this year. Further, on August 1st, we signed a definitive purchase agreement to acquire an 11 MW Bitcoin mining site in Mississippi from Greenidge for $3.9 million or about $355,000 per MW—giving us a clear path to as much as 26 MW of owned capacity. This purchase will be fully funded by our balance sheet.'
'Our Q2 results highlight the operational upgrades we've implemented and the benefits of our vertically integrated strategy,' commented Richard Russell, CFO of LM Funding. 'Even though Bitcoin production decreased sequentially due to peak-summer-related curtailments and the relocation of our remaining hosted miners, our increased mining efficiency and power sales strategy improved our direct mining margins sequentially to 41.0% from 38.5%. Further, we recorded $0.1 million of GAAP net income and $2.6 million of Core EBITDA for the quarter. Given our disciplined cost structure and targeted growth initiatives, we are confident in our ability to steadily grow our asset base, specifically our Bitcoin Treasury, over time, creating long-term value for our shareholders.'

NON-GAAP CORE EBITDA RECONCILIATION
Our reported results are presented in accordance with U.S. generally accepted accounting principles ('GAAP'). We also disclose Earnings before Interest, Tax, Depreciation and Amortization ("EBITDA") and Core Earnings before Interest, Tax, Depreciation and Amortization ("Core EBITDA") which adjusts for unrealized loss (gain) on investment and equity securities, loss on disposal of mining equipment, impairment loss on mining equipment and stock compensation expense and option expense, all of which are non-GAAP financial measures. We believe these non-GAAP financial measures are useful to investors because they are widely accepted industry measures used by analysts and investors to compare the operating performance of Bitcoin miners.
The following tables reconcile net loss, which we believe is the most comparable GAAP measure, to EBITDA and Core EBITDA:

Which Is the Better Choice for Investing $10,000 Right Now: Palantir or XRP (Ripple)?

Palantir should have tremendous growth prospects with its AI-powered software. XRP could soar if investors are allowed to buy cryptocurrencies in their 401(k) plans. Which asset is the better pick depends on your risk tolerance and investment horizon. 10 stocks we like better than Palantir Technologies › What's the best-performing S&P 500 stock so far in 2025? There's no contest. Palantir Technologies (NASDAQ: PLTR) has trounced all other contenders with a year-to-date gain of over 140%. There isn't an equivalent of the S&P 500 for cryptocurrencies. However, among digital currencies with a market cap of at least $100 billion, XRP (CRYPTO: XRP) (sometimes referred to as Ripple, which is the name of the company that popularized the cryptocurrency) is the clear winner with a year-to-date gain of around 60%. Where to invest $1,000 right now? Our analyst team just revealed what they believe are the 10 best stocks to buy right now. Continue » Stocks and cryptocurrencies are vastly different, yet they vie for the same pool of investors' hard-earned cash. Which is the better choice for investing $10,000 right now: Palantir or XRP? Image source: Getty Images. The case for Palantir Palantir describes what it does as making "products for human-driven analysis of real-world data." However, those products rely heavily on artificial intelligence (AI), including machine learning and generative AI. The company's initial focus was on providing software to governments (particularly intelligence and defense agencies), but it has expanded into commercial applications as well. Both of Palantir's core markets are booming. The company's U.S. commercial revenue skyrocketed 93% year over year in the second quarter of 2025 to $306 million. Its U.S. government revenue soared 53% year over year to $426 million. Palantir's overall revenue jumped 48% to a little over $1 billion. CEO Alex Karp wrote to shareholders recently that this growth rate is "nearly without precedent or comparison" for a business of Palantir's scale. He also stated, "This is still only the beginning of something much larger and, we believe, even more significant." He could be right. IDC projects that the global AI platform software market will grow by a compound annual growth rate of 40.6% through 2028 to $153 billion. Palantir outshines every software maker in the world with at least $1 billion in trailing-12-month revenue on the "Rule of 40" metric. This number combines a company's revenue growth and its profit margin. Palantir's "Rule of 40" score is 94%. Among the 25 global companies with the largest market caps, only Nvidia has a higher score. The case for XRP David Schwartz, Jed McCaleb, and Arthur Britto set out in 2011 to develop a digital asset that was specifically designed for payments and would be better than Bitcoin. They wound up creating the XRP Ledger, which uses XRP as its native currency. The three engineers launched a company to expand the blockchain platform they developed. After a couple of name changes, this company became Ripple. Today, XRP ranks as the third-largest cryptocurrency in the world with a market cap of over $180 billion. It's traded on more than 100 markets and exchanges. Roughly 59.3 billion XRP tokens are in circulation, with a total supply of nearly 100 billion tokens. XRP's growth prospects hinge on demand for the cryptocurrency outstripping supply. That hasn't been a problem so far -- and might not be going forward, either. For one thing, its developers' goal of building a better version of Bitcoin appears to have been achieved. XRP takes only three to five seconds to settle a payment, compared with 500 seconds for Bitcoin. It also boasts a much lower cost per transaction, is much more scalable, and consumes much less energy than Bitcoin. Demand could also soar thanks to President Trump's recently signed executive order directing the U.S. government to take steps to allow 401(k) plan investments in alternative assets, including cryptocurrencies. In addition, several investment management companies are scrambling to launch exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that own XRP. And the verdict is... Which of these assets is the better alternative for investing $10,000 right now? I think it depends on your risk tolerance and investment horizon. Both XRP and Palantir are risky. Like any cryptocurrency, XRP is only worth what investors think it's worth. Some would argue that it has no intrinsic value (although that's debatable). Palantir's risk level primarily comes from its valuation: The stock trades at 294 times forward earnings -- a nosebleed level. However, because of the company's growth prospects, I'd say it's less risky than XRP overall. That said, it wouldn't surprise me if XRP outperforms Palantir over the short term. The creation of new ETFs focusing on the cryptocurrency and the likelihood that investors will soon be able to buy those ETFs and perhaps buy XRP directly in their 401(k) accounts could provide major catalysts. What about over the long term? I think the nod goes to Palantir. The potential for AI to transform governments and businesses is massive. Still, other stocks offer better risk-reward propositions than Palantir, in my view. Should you invest $1,000 in Palantir Technologies right now? Could Buying AMD Stock Today Help Set You Up For Life?

Key Points Its product lineup is diversified across several computing sectors. AMD could see a boost in sales from its MI308 chips bound for China. However, the stock is quite expensive for the growth this chipmaker delivers. 10 stocks we like better than Advanced Micro Devices › In the world of artificial intelligence (AI) computing, one company reigns supreme: Nvidia. However, Nvidia isn't without competition, and there are other popular alternatives that investors shouldn't ignore just because they aren't the leader. AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) falls under this category, and it could be a better investment option if it provides a great balance of value with growth. With how monstrous of a run Nvidia has been on over the past few years, some investors are speculating that it may need to cool down a bit. But could buying AMD with some Nvidia profits be enough to set you up for life? Where to invest $1,000 right now? Our analyst team just revealed what they believe are the 10 best stocks to buy right now. Learn More » AMD's diversity may not be as much as some investors believe One of the reasons why AMD has played second fiddle to Nvidia is the broad reach of its products. Nvidia is focused on building GPUs and other products that support their use. AMD has a much broader product range, including GPUs that directly challenge Nvidia's, but also CPUs for laptops and embedded processors for specific applications in industry. AMD's lack of focus on GPUs and data centers has caused it to have fewer successful years than Nvidia recently. However, this narrative could flip if the data center GPU market starts to head south. AMD's diversity would shine at that time, likely leading to outperformance compared to Nvidia. Still, AMD gets a large chunk of its revenue from its data center division, so this weakness would still be quite harmful to AMD. In Q2, AMD's data center segment generated $3.2 billion in revenue. The Client and Gaming division combined was slightly larger, generating $3.6 billion in revenue, and Embedded generated $0.8 billion. So, if companies suddenly quit building data centers to support the massive AI buildout, AMD would still have nearly half of its revenue base affected, which would turn AMD into a poor performer (alongside Nvidia). As a result, the diversity strength that some investors appreciate with AMD may not be as stable as they think. But if AMD is priced right, the stock could still be a viable alternative to Nvidia, as there is more than one way to have a winning investment besides growth. AMD's stock isn't as cheap as you may think One of the problems with being a highly diversified business is that there is always something popping up in quarterly results that affects the overall picture. For AMD in Q2, it was the loss of its Chinese export license for MI308 chips, which are designed specifically to meet export restrictions. This caused AMD to take a write-off for the quarter, resulting in its normally highly profitable Data Center segment delivering an operating loss for the quarter. However, news emerged recently that AMD and Nvidia may be allowed to restart exporting chips to China if they pay a 15% export tax. While Nvidia looks primed to benefit from this arrangement (some revenue and profits from China are better than no revenue and profits), AMD may not be in as strong a position. Because AMD isn't the market leader, it doesn't have the strong profit margins that Nvidia has, which could cause this 15% tax to make its chip sales marginally profitable. Once again, some profits are better than no profits, but it won't be as lucrative an arrangement as it formerly was. NVDA PE Ratio (Forward) data by YCharts Time will tell how it affects AMD, but it will likely be more of a boost to Nvidia. Despite all of these drawbacks to AMD versus Nvidia, its stock still trades at a premium to Nvidia's. With AMD's shares priced at a higher forward price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio than Nvidia's, it puts the nail in the coffin for this analysis. Investing in alternatives to the leaders in some spaces can work out well, but I don't think it's the case with AMD and Nvidia. Should you invest $1,000 in Advanced Micro Devices right now?
