GENERAL
SHAH ALAM, July 18 (Bernama) -- The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, today stressed that every fatwa issued in the state goes through a structured and thorough process.
A statement posted on the Selangor Royal Office Facebook page said the Sultan also decreed that this diligence involved taking into account views from various parties, particularly from the state Fatwa Committee and syariah law experts.
The post also shared the procedures undertaken before a fatwa is issued, stating that each ruling must go through a process of complete data collection, comprehensive information gathering, and a precise understanding of the issue before it is discussed.
A 'Muzakarah Pakar' (Expert Discussion) is then held to thoroughly deliberate on the matter, attended by religious scholars, academics and relevant stakeholders, as well as officers from authorised bodies.
"If no firm resolution is reached, a 'Bahthul Masail' (discussion of issues) will be convened. This is a more focused and smaller-scale discussion aimed at resolving complex matters in greater detail and depth."
"Only then will the Fatwa Committee Meeting be held, based on Section 48(2) of the Selangor Islamic Religious Administration Enactment 2003," the post stated.
According to the same post, every study is presented during the Fatwa Committee Meeting with scholarly value and includes two-way discussions between researchers and committee members.
The 'sighah' (wording) of the fatwa that has been decided by the committee will then be reviewed and harmonised during the Technical Committee for the Harmonisation of Fatwa Meeting.
"This sighah will be submitted to the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) Members' Meeting to carefully evaluate the proposed fatwa and make a recommendation to the Sultan of Selangor for gazettement.

Thailand Declares Martial Law In Eastern Border Provinces Amid Rising Tensions

BANGKOK, July 25 (Bernama) -- The Chanthaburi-Trat Border Defence Command on Friday declared martial law in several districts of eastern Thailand, effective immediately, following a second day of escalating Thai-Cambodian border tensions that have reportedly left at least 15 people dead. Deputy Spokesperson for the Royal Thai Navy, Rear Admiral Paratch Rattanachaipan, clarified that the imposition of martial law in parts of Chanthaburi and Trat provinces is intended to grant the military full legal authority to maintain peace and order, while assuring the public that daily life may continue as usual. bootstrap slideshow He stated that the growing tensions along the Thai-Cambodian border have raised concerns for the safety and security of residents in the affected regions. 'In response, the Chanthaburi-Trat Border Protection Command has exercised its authority under the Martial Law Act of 1914 to extend martial law to specific inland districts in both Chanthaburi and Trat,' he said in a statement issued on Friday. 'This measure enables military personnel to legally maintain order and effectively carry out critical tasks, such as designating safe zones for civilians.' He added that the decision was made by the Commander of the Border Protection Command for Chanthaburi and Trat, following ongoing developments in the area. He emphasised that residents in the affected districts can continue their daily activities as normal, as has been the case in other areas where martial law has previously been enforced. Martial law is the temporary imposition of military rule over a civilian population, typically in times of extreme emergency, war, or severe civil unrest, when the civilian authorities are deemed unable to maintain public order and safety.

Cambodia PM Agrees To Ceasefire Proposed By Anwar

By Vijian Paramasivam PHNOM PENH, July 25 (Bernama) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has agreed to the ceasefire proposal with Thailand suggested by Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. In a Facebook post today, Manet said he agreed to the ceasefire because Cambodia did not initiate the fighting. bootstrap slideshow 'The key to resolving the current armed conflict between Thailand and Cambodia is the genuine willingness of the Thai side to accept a ceasefire, which is the first step towards finding further solutions between the two countries,' Manet said in his posting. Manet clarified that there was unclear reporting by various international media regarding the proposed ceasefire talks initiated by Anwar, the current ASEAN chair. Manet said he only agreed to the ceasefire after hearing from Anwar that Thailand's acting Prime Minister, Phumtham Wechayachai, agreed to peace talks. But regrettably, the Thai side changed their position on the issue, he said in his posting. 'However, it is regrettable that just over an hour later, the Thai side informed that they had reversed their position from agreeing to the ceasefire,' said Manet. Anwar said he spoke to both prime ministers on resolving the ongoing conflict on Thursday.

Trade Missions Abroad Bear Results, Two Foreign Companies Begin Investment In Malaysia -- Tengku Zafrul

BUSINESS KUALA LUMPUR, July 25 (Bernama) -- Two foreign investment projects announced during the government's trade and investment missions abroad have now begun implementation, thus refuting claims that no results were obtained from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's official visit abroad. Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said that Gul Technologies, a company announced during the trade and investment mission to China in 2024, is currently building its factory in Kulim, Kedah, with an investment of RM350 million for Phase 1. He said that the project is expected to create 350 job opportunities for the local people. 'What is interesting is that this company is currently collaborating with Kulim Advanced Technologies Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Kulim Hi-Tech Park Corporation Sdn Bhd, which is responsible for training young talents. 'Through this collaboration, the company will employ 100 local technicians who will be sent to China for training,' said Tengku Zafrul in a post on X today. Meanwhile, another company, EDA, which was announced during the trade and investment mission to Italy in 2024, has started an investment worth RM100 million in Jasin, Melaka. 'EDA also has 150 vendors among local companies. This means that EDA is not only creating jobs at their facilities, but also supporting Malaysian workers in 150 local companies,' he said. These two projects are among the 2,198 manufacturing projects that have been approved throughout the MADANI Government's administration from 2023 to the first quarter of 2025. Tengku Zafrul said that out of that total, 1,849 projects, or 84.2 per cent, have been implemented as at July 2025.
