Telangana high court seeks report on illegal construction on Bhoodan land
Justice CV Bhaskar Reddy on Wednesday directed the district collector to submit a report by July 11 on alleged construction activity underway in Nagaram village, despite a status quo order issued earlier by the court.
The matter pertains to a contempt petition filed by Birla Mallesh, who has consistently flagged what he describes as irregular and illegal land transactions involving Bhoodan and govt-owned grazing lands in survey numbers 181, 182, 194, and 195 of Nagaram village in Maheshwaram mandal.

These transactions, he alleges, involved senior IAS and IPS officers and were carried out in violation of land-use regulations and court directives.
Gairan Sarkari is a grazing land that is public property and cannot legally be sold or transferred. On April 24, the court took cognisance of Mallesh's submissions and passed a clear order directing the state to place the said lands-comprising Bhoodan and Gairan Sarkari plots-in the prohibited list, thereby halting all forms of sale, transfer, or development.

It had also restrained govt departments and officials from making any alterations, alienations, or modifications to the disputed properties until further orders.
However, Mallesh returned to court with a contempt plea, alleging that unauthorised construction continues unabated on the land. In support of his claim, he submitted photographs showing a compound wall being erected around site in question.
The petitioner emphasised that the land is classified as Gairan Sarkari, and reiterated that the Bhoodan lands, donated under a post-Independence land reform initiative for the landless, carry specific restrictions on alienation and must be preserved in public interest.

IEWG to submit report on caste survey soon
HYDERABAD: The Independent Expert Working Group (IEWG) has finalised its comprehensive report on the Social, Education, Economic, Employment, Political and Caste (SEEEPC) survey conducted by the state government. The IEWG, which met at the MCHRD Institute under the chairmanship of Justice B Sudarshan Reddy, finalised the report on Wednesday. The group said that the report, employing a pioneering framework, calculates a Composite Backwardness Index (CBI) for each of the 242 castes in the SEEEPC survey. 'The report, spanning nearly 300 pages, presents a first-of-its-kind analytical model to measure socioeconomic backwardness and assigns a CBI score and rank for all 242 castes. The report is now awaiting final editorial touches and will be ready within a week,' it said. The group has also intimated Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka about this and sought time to formally hand over the report. Speaking to TNIE, IEWG convenor Praveen Chakravarthy said that they have thoroughly analysed the SEEEPC survey data, and given scores and ranks based on backwardness to each of the 242 castes. 'Every caste will get a score on its backwardness. It is for the first time that such an exercise has been taken up in the country. It will completely change the welfare parameters in the country. Telangana will be a role model for the entire nation in this regard,' he added.

Bryan Kohberger's guilty plea in Idaho murder case leaves questions unanswered; was he killing for thrill?
Nearly three years after the brutal murders of four University of Idaho students , Bryan Kohberger , the man accused of carrying out the killings, has agreed to plead guilty to all charges. The plea deal , proposed by prosecutors, would see Kohberger sentenced to life in prison without parole, avoiding a lengthy trial and the death penalty. If accepted by the court, this move would bring a sudden end to one of the most closely followed murder cases in the US in recent years, but not without controversy. Families of the victims remain divided, some welcoming closure, others accusing the state of shutting them out of the decision-making process. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Join new Free to Play WWII MMO War Thunder War Thunder Play Now Undo Who is Bryan Kohberger? Bryan Kohberger, 30, was a Ph.D. student in criminology at Washington State University when the killings occurred. He was arrested in December 2022 at his family home in Pennsylvania, roughly six weeks after the murders of Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, Madison Mogen, and Kaylee Goncalves at their off-campus home in Moscow, Idaho. Live Events Investigators linked Kohberger to the crime through a combination of cellphone data, surveillance footage, and DNA found on a knife sheath left at the crime scene. He was charged with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of felony burglary. While the prosecution initially sought the death penalty, the current plea deal would exchange that for multiple life sentences. What is the motive behind Bryan Kohberger's killing? Even as the legal process nears an end, the motive behind the killings remains unclear. The plea deal would bypass a public trial, meaning much of the evidence, including any potential insight into Kohberger's intent, may never be fully revealed. However, some criminal behavior experts have noted his actions resemble those associated with a 'thrill kill', suggesting that he may have been driven by the adrenaline rush inherent in committing a violent crime. In a report published by Newsweek, Ian Lamoureux, a forensic psychiatrist and clinical assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Arizona, said initial evidence suggests the murders could have been a " thrill kill ." However, Kohberger's family has remained silent; they requested privacy and urged responsible media coverage. Despite meticulous planning, purchasing a military-style knife months in advance, surveilling the victims' home using cellphone data, and taking extensive steps to conceal evidence, no personal connection or clear intent has been identified. Prosecutor Bill Thompson described the killings as 'senseless', adding that Kohberger had no known relationship with the victims and did not explain his reasons during his guilty plea .
