
Rain can't dampen trap shooters day at Black Lake Fish-Game High School Invitational
Jun. 1—MORRISTOWN — The rains came shortly after the first shots rang out on the line at the 2025 Black Lake Fish and Game Club High School Trap Shooting Invitational on Saturday.
But a steady cold downpour did nothing to diminish the enthusiam and enjoyment of the 125 plus shooters and the coaches and supporters of teams from the Morristown, OFA. Hammond and Heuvelton teams which served as the co-hosts and Gouverneur, Lisbon, Indian River. Harrisville, Alex Bay, Norwood-Norfolk, St. Lawrence Central, Potsdam, Parishville-Hopkinton and Brushton-Moira.

"Things really went well today. Everyone had a great time and I received so many positive responses," said Morristown Coach Dustin Denesha.
"We are always working do things better and the first thing we are going to do was move the tournament back to a Saturday so we don't have conflicts with softball, baseball and proms and other things. I to thank the people from Lisbon for bringing over equipment which we really needed to hold the event."
The format of the tournament saw shooters from all the teams competing for honors in a Blind Draw Division and the teams competing for the massive BLFGC Team Championship Tournament. Inside the Community Building a Craft and Vendor Fair was held with refreshments offered inside and outside.
Alex Bay prevailed in a close race for the Team Championship Trophy with a 228 to 225 edge over Indian River and Gouverneur placed third at 217. In the Coaches Shootoff Mike Vaadi of Gouverneur and Paul Cappelino of Indian River tied for bragging rights at 25.

The Top Male Shooters were: Baron Ryder of Alex Bay, Caleb Burgonstock of Indian River and Ryan Mashaw of Gouverneur who all shattered 48 out of 50 birds. In the Female Division Scarlett Ritchie of Morristown went 46-for-50 to lead the way before hustling home to get ready for the Morristown Central Prom. She came back in her Prom dress to accept her trophy and medal. Charlese Jackson of Indian River and Olivia Fitchette of Alex Bay tied for second at 44.
Ritchie and Fitchette also teamed with Alison McCormick of Alex Bay, Larry Young of Heuvelton and Landen Downs of Morristown to lead the Blind Draw competition on Team 15 which scored 204 points. Second place with 201 points went to: Team 17 composed for John Boynce Jr. of SLC, Michael Myers of OFA, Caleb Warren of Lisbon, Coltion Wormuth of Alex Bay and Charlese Jackson of Indian River.
Third Place was secured by Team 18 which scored 200 points with: Tony Wilson of N-N, Ryan Mashaw of Gouverneur, Blair Aiken of Hammond, Aidan LaRock of B-M and Kaiden McArdell of Hammond.
