Forum discusses strategic foresight culture amid economic, technological transformations
Muscat: The "Future Foresight Forum" kicked off on Monday at Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), discussing strategic foresight culture in light of economic and technological transformations.
The three-day event is organised by the Global Development Academy for Training and the Al-Marji' Academy for Consultancy and Administrative Development, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and the OCCI.
The opening ceremony was held under the patronage of Eng. Hamoud Salim Al-Saadi, Second Deputy Chairman of the OCCI Board of Directors and Chairman of the Chamber's branch in South Al Batinah Governorate, with the participation of several specialists and speakers from eight countries.
The forum examined the role of institutions in developing effective strategies by fostering a culture of strategic foresight, empowering national competencies, and enhancing business readiness to address rapid economic and technological shifts. The event aims to strengthen the business environment, stimulate innovation, attract investments, and build effective public-private partnerships.
Abdullah Mohammed Al-Saidi, CEO of the Global Development Academy for Training, emphasised that rapid technological and economic developments require a shift from reactive to proactive approaches, adopting an institutional framework based on analysis, innovation, and strategic decision-making.
Meanwhile, Dr. Abdulsalam Yahya, an economic expert at the OCCI discussed Oman's economic outlook amid global economic and geopolitical fluctuations. He highlighted that effectively navigating these changes demands long-term strategic vision and continuous updates to economic policies to ensure resilience and adaptability to regional and global developments.
The first day of the forum featured specialised panel discussions on key themes, including economic trends amid geopolitical shifts, artificial intelligence as a tool for future foresight, institutional governance, and the digital economy.
On its second day, the forum will explore leveraging technology to enhance institutional effectiveness and drive innovation, the role of foresight leadership in shaping economic development pathways, and Oman Vision 2040 in future foresight processes. The final day will address strategies for building a digital economy, foresight horizons and leadership dialogue.

North Al Sharqiyah Grape Festival kicks off
Al Mudhaibi: The North A'Sharqiyah Governorate today launched the second edition of its Grape Festival in the Wilayat of Al Mudhaibi. The event builds on the remarkable success of its 2023 debut, which saw grape cultivation areas in the governorate expand from 8 to 27 acres - a 238% increase. The opening ceremony was held under the patronage of Dr. Saud Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources. Mahmoud Yahya Al Dhuhli, Governor of North A'Sharqiyah, emphasized the festival's role in fostering government-community partnerships while announcing ambitious new agricultural targets. The current edition introduces a model grape farm project aiming to cultivate an additional 100 acres, bringing total cultivation area to 127 acres with estimated production of 635 tonnes valued at over OMR1 million. The project will also introduce six new international grape varieties selected for their quality, storage capability, and transport durability to enhance competitiveness in domestic and international markets, he added. The opening day featured a documentary chronicling the development of grape cultivation in Oman, followed by a scientific presentation from Dr. Rashid Al Yahyai, Dean of the College of Agricultural and Marine Sciences at Sultan Qaboos University. The presentation highlighted agricultural development through biotechnology and research while stressing the importance of farmer-academic institution partnerships. Local farmers shared success stories demonstrating modern irrigation techniques, organic fertilization, and marketing approaches, alongside presentations of new investment agreements supporting grape cultivation and food processing industries. The Minister honored contributing participants and farmers before inaugurating the accompanying exhibition, which featured specialized displays of grape varieties, processed products, and modern agricultural equipment with participation from public and private sector institutions. The festival continues on Tuesday with an "Agricultural Lab" focusing on farming challenges and agricultural investment development in North Al Sharqiyah, featuring participation from specialists and agricultural experts. Organised through collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources and the North Al Sharqiyah Governor's Office, with participation from government and private institutions, the festival serves as a comprehensive platform to empower farmers, promote agricultural innovation, and establish North Al Sharqiyah as a promising agricultural center in Oman.

Agreements inked to develop, empower national talent in industrial sector
Muscat: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion on Monday signed several agreements with government and private institutions in Muscat to enhance public-private partnerships and empower national talent in the industrial sector. The agreements included the signing of a deal between the Ministry, the North Al Batinah Governor's Office, and Jindal Steel for the establishment of an industrial training center in the governorate. The center aims to qualify national talent and enhance their readiness for the labour market. Another financing agreement was signed between the Ministry and Daleel Petroleum to develop the 'Tasnee'' or manufacturing platform, a specialized electronic platform linking industrial sector purchases and contracts with local products. This initiative seeks to enhance supply chain efficiency and increase local value-added content. Additionally, the Ministry signed a cooperation program with the Global Retail Company, providing 300 training, qualification, and employment opportunities for national workforce, including 100 direct employment opportunities coupled with training and 200 training opportunities linked to employment. This aims to strengthen the presence of national cadres in the labour market. Dr. Saleh Said Massan, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion for Commerce and Industry, emphasised that these agreements represent a significant milestone in enhancing national industrial capabilities. He noted that these initiatives complement the implementation of the Industrial Strategy 2040 targets, which focus on developing a diversified industrial sector based on knowledge and technology. He added that the Ministry is working to translate the industrial sector's strategic directions into practical projects and initiatives that contribute to increasing added value, diversifying industrial activities, boosting industrial exports, attracting quality investments, and enhancing investor confidence in the industrial business environment. Eng. Khalid Salim Al Qasabi, Director General of Industry at the Ministry, stated that these programs are implemented in cooperation with specialised institutions to align educational outcomes with the needs of the industrial market. This ensures compatibility with the requirements of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and rapid economic transformations, contributing to building a qualified national base capable of leading industrial facilities, improving their production efficiency, and enhancing their competitiveness locally and internationally. The signing ceremony also witnessed the launch of training programmes by Oman Cables Industry as a successful model in industrial training. The event was attended by several ministers, high-ranking officials, and representatives of relevant institutions.
