
Kelantan Customs seize 1.72 million sticks of smuggled cigarettes
KOTA BARU: The Kelantan Customs Department has seized more than 1.72 million sticks of contraband cigarettes worth RM1.48mil from a house in Kampung Babong here.
Its director Wan Jamal Abdul Salam Wan Long said they conducted the raid at 10.30am on May 7 and found the cigarettes in the house and in the boot of a car.
He said the rented premises was used to store the contraband cigarettes, which they distributed to customers using the vehicle.
"The total value of the seized cigarettes is RM1.48mil, including tax. The case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(e) and Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
"Customs urges the public to help combat smuggling by providing information regarding any smuggling activities," he said in a statement on Sunday (June 1). – Bernama

'The parties are unanimously of the opinion that bringing the matter to a close is in the best interest of all concerned. Khoo and Ravinder have removed the recording from their respective social media accounts and further undertake not to republish the same,' the statement read. According to the statement, on Aug 5, 2023, a recording was uploaded by Khoo on her X account, depicting an interaction between herself and Ravinder during a civil protest against the Penang South Reclamation project. The same recording was subsequently shared on Ravinder's Facebook page on Aug 22, 2023. The recording referenced Zairil's role as a member of the Penang government and alleged that a familial connection influenced the appointment of the project delivery partner for the reclamation project.

Three Jitra IKBN Students Killed, One Injured In NSE Crash
ALOR SETAR, June 5 (Bernama) -- Three students from the Jitra National Youth Skills Institute (IKBN) were killed in an accident involving two motorcycles and a car at Kilometre 49.4 on the North-South Expressway (southbound) near here today. Kota Setar police chief ACP Siti Nor Salawati Saad said they received information about the accident at 2.10 pm, involving two motorcycles – a Yamaha 135LC and a Yamaha Y16ZR – and a Naza Citra car. She said the dead were identified as Muhamad Habil Mohd Sobri from Gurun, Muhammad Fahmi Jamel from Jeniang, Sik, and Muhamad Arif Aifan Derani from Bukit Selambau, Sungai Petani. Another friend, Muhammad Adib Aiman Mohd Hasani from Subang Jaya, Selangor, was injured. "The accident is believed to have occurred when the Yamaha 135LC motorcyclist lost control and crashed into the rear of a car that had stopped in the emergency lane. Another motorcycle, trailing behind, was unable to avoid the collision and crashed into the first bike. "In the crash, two motorcyclists and one pillion rider died at the scene, while another individual was injured. The car's driver and passengers were unharmed," she said. She said that the bodies of the three victims, all 19, were sent to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) for post-mortem. "The injured victim was sent to the same hospital for treatment. The driver of the car has been detained for further investigation, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
