Nintendo Leaks Switch 2 Sales Figures Then Clarifies It Was An 'Error'
In a post by My Nintendo News, the Nintendo Switch 2 had apparently sold over 5 million units worldwide, which would have been a pretty substantial jump since the 3.5 million worldwide sales reported by the company within its first four days. The site claimed that the sales were led by the Americas with 1.8 million units, followed by Japan with 1.47 million, Europe with 1.18 million, and other regions at 0.55 million units.
However, Nintendo was quick to clarify this 'leak,' as industry analyst David Gibson reached out to the Mario Makers on Twitter to ask about the data. According to him, Nintendo's response was, 'It appears that test data prepared for a website update was unintentionally made publicly accessible.' They went on to say, 'temporarily visible data was for testing purposes only, and is not accurate, and not related to any sales result or projection of Switch 2.'
Despite these updates, the forecast for Nintendo Switch 2 sales remains optimistic, with Gibson himself projecting Switch 2 sales to reach approximately 5.4 million when results are officially announced on August 1st, 2025. This would be in line with the original Switch, which sold 2.74 million units worldwide within its first month of release, and reported 7.63 million by the end of September 30th, 2017.
Despite criticisms of the cost of not just the system itself, but both Mario Kart World and upcoming Switch 2 games, excitement for the console remains high, due in large part to its solid hardware and Nintendo's strong brand value. If recent rumours of a Nintendo Direct manage to be true, a slate of new games dedicated to the Switch 2 may further incentivize a purchase.

We must lead AI revolution or be damned, says Muslim leader
Muslims must take charge of artificial intelligence or 'be damned' as a marginalised community, the head of the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) has said in a leaked video. Dr Wajid Akhter, the general secretary of the MCB, said Muslims and their children risked missing the AI revolution in the same way as they had been left behind in the computer and social media revolutions. He added that while Muslims had historically been at the forefront of civilisation and were credited with some of the greatest scientific advances, they had ended up as the butt' of jokes in the modern world after failing to play a part in the latest technological revolutions. 'We already missed the industrial revolution. We missed the computer revolution. We missed the social media revolution. We will be damned and our children will damn us if we miss the AI revolution. We must take a lead,' said Dr Akther. Speaking at the MCB's AI and the Muslim Community conference on July 19, he added: 'AI needs Islam, it needs Muslims to step up.' Scientists 'made fun of' faith at computer launch Dr Akther recalled how at the launch of one of the world's earliest computers, the Mark II , US scientists brought out a prayer mat aligned towards Mecca. 'They were making fun of all religions because they felt that they had now achieved the age of reason and science and technology and we don't need that superstition any more,' he said. 'And so to show that they had achieved mastery over religion, they decided to make fun and they chose our faith. 'How did we go from a people who gave the world the most beautiful buildings, science, technology, medicine, arts to being a joke? 'I'll tell you one thing – the next time that the world is going through a revolution, the next time they go to flip that switch, they will also pull out a prayer mat and they will also line it towards the Qibla [the direction towards Mecca] and they will also pray, but this time, not to make fun of us, they will do so because they are us.' Government eases stance on MCB Dr Akther also told his audience: 'We lost each other. And ever since we lost each other, we've been falling. We've been falling ever since. We are people now who are forced, we are forced by Allah to watch the genocide of our brothers and sisters in Gaza. 'This is a punishment for us if we know it. We are people who are forced to beg the ones who are doing the killing to stop it. We are people who are two billion strong but cannot even get one bottle of water into Gaza.' Dr Akhter said Gaza had 'woken' Muslims up and showed they needed to unite. 'We will continue to fall until the day we realise that only when we are united will we be able to reverse this. Until the day we realise that we need to sacrifice for this unity,' he added. British governments have maintained a policy of 'non-engagement' with the MCB since 2009 based on claims, disputed by the council, that some of its officials have previously made extremist comments. However, Angela Rayner, the Deputy Prime Minister, is drawing up a new official definition of Islamophobia, and last week it emerged the consultation has been thrown open to all groups including the MCB. Earlier this year, Sir Stephen Timms, a minister in the Department for Work and Pensions, was one of four Labour MPs to attend an MCB event. The MCB has been approached for comment. This $30 Gamepad Is the First to Support a Critical Switch 2 Feature
GuliKit is now offering the Elves 2 wireless gamepad. It's an surprisingly high-end controller with an affordable $30 price tag, though it's most notable for its Switch 2 wake-from-sleep functionality, which other third-party gamepads currently lack. One of the most annoying parts of the original Nintendo Switch was its remote wake functionality. Not only was it somewhat unreliable (even with official Joy-Cons), but a lot of third-party controllers just couldn't wake up the console. So, if you used an unofficial controller, there's a good chance that you couldn't turn on the Nintendo Switch from the comfort of your couch. Instead, you may have been forced to stand up, walk over to the docked Switch, and press its power button like some sort of 20th century caveman. Nintendo revised its wake-from-sleep protocol for the Switch 2. It's more reliable than it was before, which is awesome. But the downside, unfortunately, is that existing third-party controllers like the GuliKit Elves 2 Pro do not support Nintendo's new protocol. GuliKit cracked the code to the Switch 2's new wake-up protocol last month. Now, the company is releasing its first gamepad with Switch 2 wake-from-sleep functionality—the $30 Elves 2. The Elves 2 is practically identical to the $50 Elves 2 Pro that launched last year. Both gamepads feature Hall-effect joysticks, a Sega Saturn-like "floating" D-pad, six-axis gyro, and the ability to wake a docked Nintendo Switch from sleep. But Elves 2 adds Switch 2 wake-from-sleep support, which is a feature that the older "Pro" controller still lacks (though this discrepancy could be resolved by a firmware update at some point). GuliKit cut some corners in order to get the Elves 2 down to its $30 price point, of course, but all of the downgrades are fairly minor. The Elves 2 uses a crappier haptic motor than the Elves 2 Pro, so it doesn't support HD Rumble. It also lacks macro recording functionality, and unlike the Pro model, its buttons can't be remapped. I should take a moment to clarify that these are not just Nintendo Switch controllers. The Elves 2 and Elves 2 Pro are standard Bluetooth controllers, so they work with PCs, smartphones, and Steam Decks, too. You'll need to use an adapter if you want to pair these controllers with an Xbox or PlayStation, however. You can buy the GuliKit Elves 2 controller today for $30. It's sold in red and black colorways. If you want some additional functionality, such as upgraded haptics, spring for the $50 GuliKit Elves 2 Pro. Just know that GuliKit hasn't announced a Switch 2 wake-from-sleep firmware update for the Elves 2 Pro. I don't know whether the Pro controller will actually gain this functionality.
