Min Woo Lee inspired by big sister Minjee's PGA Championship triumph as he details shock phone call
Back-to-form Min Woo Lee admits it's been inspiring to see big sister Minjee walk the walk again in women's golf.
The Australian's elder sibling chalked up a third Major win of her career last weekend when triumphant at the KPMG PGA Championship.
Lee admits he was shocked to get a call from Minjee on the eve of his outing at the Rocket Classic, but, whatever was said, it worked a treat. The 2021 Genesis Scottish Open champion and this year's Houston Open king produced a stunning 63 in Detroit to charge to the top of the leaderboards.
Lee revealed the chat with big sis prior to teeing-off and smiled: 'Normally, she doesn't check up on me, but it was actually quite nice to get a call from her. I was like: Did you butt dial me? What's going on? She's like: No, I just wanted to check in. I was like, oh, okay. She's awesome.
'I think she had a bit of a night on Sunday with a few of her friends. I think they all had a week off this week, so it's good to see her in a nice mental space and happy on the course. She was going through a tough patch the last couple of years, so it's nice to see her have her swagger back.
'I don't think she learns that much off me. I try to learn off her. She's just a beast when she's playing good. 'She just doesn't do much wrong and you just see that step in her walk. You know she's comfortable with her game and you know she's got control. She's already a ball striker, so it's quite cool to see her walk the walk. It's a very cool thing. We're trying to play as good as we can.'
Lee has struggled for form since his win in the Houston with missed cuts at the PGA Championship and US Open on last two Majors outings.
But he was back in the zone on day one on a course that suited and said: 'You've just got to take care of what's in front of you. I think it's really easy to be like, hey, I shot nine under, I'm the best player in the world feel-wise. But you've still got to go out there and hit some shots and hit all the shots. There's a comfortability factor of yes, you've been playing well, and although I didn't have the A-plus game, you can still score around here.
'I think it's just the confidence that you feel when you go out there, but you still need to go from A to B, which a lot of people keep telling me and that's kind of the motto of this game. It's been, honestly, very bad.
'I didn't feel great on the course, especially playing at a course where when you hit it in the rough, you've literally got to hack out. Oakmont, Memorial.
'Most of the signature events are just very, very tough, and you're nearly playing, instead of four majors, you're playing more Majors because they're trying to make it as tough as possible.
'I was really excited for this week. I wanted to get to hit it in the rough and actually hit it onto the green. It seems so close, but I don't even think I did that much different today and I score 10 times better than what I have been scoring, so at the end of the day, just got to keep your head up and keep going.
'In the long term, you want to play the signature events, you want to play those events and you want to hit it as accurate as possible, but still trying to figure it out. Driver was a big part of that, not knowing where the ball was going. Hopefully, the PGA Tour can have more courses like this. It'll be a bit more fun and less stressful!'

Sprint star, 16, beats Usain Bolt's 100m record at same age and outshines Gout Gout
Sorato Shimizu set a new under-18 100m world record in Japan's Inter-High School Championships while eclipsing the entry standard for the World Athletics Championships in the process Athletics has a new sensation in the form of an unheralded Japanese sprinter who has outpaced the likes of Gout Gout and Usain Bolt, while etching his name into the annals of history. Sorato Shimizu, at just 16 years old, has set a new under-18 100m world record at Japan's Inter-High School Championships. In doing so, he met the entry standard for the World Athletics Championships. The high school junior, who doesn't celebrate his 17th birthday until February 2026, clocked an impressive time of 10.00 seconds. His performance was quicker than the Japanese high school record set by Yoshihide Kiryu in 2013, who later competed in the Olympic Games. It also surpassed the 10.04 time posted by Australian up-and-comer Gout Gout, and the 10.03-second sprint set by Bolt at the age of 20 - albeit, the latter dedicated himself more to the 200m discipline. Competing in Hiroshima on Saturday, Shimizu's time ranks as the fifth fastest in Japanese history, irrespective of age. This remarkable run, deemed legal with a tailwind of +1.7, has potentially paved the way for him to compete in the world championships on home turf, reports the Mirror US. Shimizu, a student at Seiryo High School in Ishikawa Prefecture, could represent Japan in the World Athletics Championships taking place in Tokyo this September. Speaking about his result, he said: "I was determined to run under 10 seconds heading into the final. I'm happy to have set a high school record. I'd like to get a taste of [the World Championships] if I can make it." Gout's personal best in the 100m was not deemed wind legal, meaning Shimizu bettered the previous U18 100m record of 10.06 seconds, which was held jointly by Puripol Boonson of Thailand and American sprinter Christian Miller. Video footage of the race showed just how commanding Shimizu's display was, as he surged ahead within the first 10m and never looked threatened, cruising to victory by an enormous distance. He added to NHK: "The 10.00-second time was shocking even to me, but I'm happy I was able to achieve it. Winning was my goal, so I focused on running my own race without hesitation. "From the start, I was able to connect to my signature 'second acceleration' and execute the movements I couldn't do in the preliminaries, so that was good." Shimizu currently sits at No. 377 in the world rankings, but should he repeat Saturday's breathtaking display, his position is certain to climb dramatically.

Instonians thrash Cliftonville Academy to savour T20 Cup joy, while Bangor taste Trophy delight by sinking Cregagh
The win was set up by a trio of half-centuries from the top order that never allowed the CA bowling unit to settle. Irish internationals Neil Rock and Cade Carmichael (27) set the tone for the game with a 66-run opening stand inside the powerplay, ended only by a stunning catch by Alfie Wylie – a rare highlight in a slipshod display that saw four chances dropped. South African professional Shane Dadswell announced his arrival at the crease with a six over square leg, and he continued in that vein after Rock fell for an excellent 27-ball 52 (four fours, three sixes). Dadswell and the evergreen Andrew White scored all around the wicket in a third-wicket partnership of 84 in nine overs that all but settled the match. White unfurled his full repertoire of audacious sweeps and ramps on his way to a top score of 62 from 38 deliveries, while Dadswell's 31-ball 58 included six fours and three maximums. The stand was only ended by a run-out – one of three in the innings – but a total of 219 for six was always going to be a match-winning one. A brief shower meant a revised target of 184 in 16 overs, but Cliftonville Academy's reply never got going at all as Man of the Match Dadswell got three wickets in his first nine balls, including the prize scalp of Abhishek Raut. Jared Wilson (33) and Andrew Forbes (30 not out) added some respectability to the margin of defeat, but this was the most one-sided of contests. Cian Robertson picked up three wickets in a fine bowling effort, while there were two wickets apiece also for Andrew White and skipper Ben Rose. 'It was a great team performance all through the game,' said skipper Rose afterwards. 'The three guys batted really well and a total of 219 was great. 'Shane taking those three early wickets also gave us some breathing space. 'Whitey' was exceptional with both bat and ball and he continues to work hard and gets his rewards.' It's a big few weeks ahead for Rose and his team, who face Waringstown in a top-of-the-table clash followed by the Challenge Cup Final. Earlier, Bangor were also convincing winners in the T20 Trophy clash, beating Cregagh by 38 runs. Opener Sam McMillan led the way with a superb 62 (10 fours) as Bangor made a strong start batting first. Former New Zealand international Ian Butler struck three huge sixes in a nine-ball 21, well caught on the long-on boundary attempting a fourth. Australian professional Connor Brown stroked five boundaries in a breezy 30, adding 58 in seven overs with McMillan as Bangor continued to attack. There was also a late flurry as Johnny Parker and Michael Skelly added 22 from the last 10 balls in a final total of 166 for seven; Adam McCormick taking three wickets. The chase got off to a terrible start with both openers gone inside two overs. Bob Moore (37) and Jonny Moore (28) attempted to salvage the innings, but Bangor caught and fielded well and, in truth, Cregagh never threatened the target. Angus Farrell (two for 17) was the pick of the bowlers as Cregagh were restricted to 128 for seven. 'We have played some good T20 cricket now for three years with a good pattern and, hopefully, we can take that form into our League campaign for the rest of the season,' said a very happy Bangor captain Johnny Parker afterwards. 'I'm overjoyed for Sam McMillan to get runs and the Man of the Match award. It's a just reward for all the hard work he has put in as he's had a tough season finding strange ways to get out and also getting a few tough decisions. 'Our bowlers did really well, especially Angus Farrell and Will Simpson who squeezed them hardly conceding any boundaries. Angus in particular had a tremendous spell and really strangled the innings. 'It was great to have the runs on the board, and our bowling unit with pace off did superbly well.'

These are the top Scottish transfer stories, rumours and gossip on Monday morning, including the latest news from Rangers, Celtic, Hibs and the Scotland national team. Hibs dealt Triantis blow Hibs hopes of bringing Nectar Triantis back to Easter Road this summer are looking 'increasingly unlikely' according to a report from the Daily Record. A standout player for the capital outfit after joining on loan from Sunderland last summer, head coach David Gray is keen on reuniting with the 22-year-old midfielder, with Hibs seeking a permanent deal for Triantis. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris had provided an update on the Aussie midfielder at the weekend, who was absent from the Black Cats squad in their 3-0 friendly defeat to Hearts at the weekend for Craig Gordon's testimonial. 'All I can say right now is that we are trying our best to improve the team,' said Le Bris. 'We will have to see what happens. If you look at the Hearts game, then it looks as though we are far away from where we need to be. That is clear. But at the same time, it is always a work in progress.' However, while Triantis may still leave the Stadium of Light this summer, the report claims the chances of him joining Hibs are growing slimmer by the day due to the player's 'significant wage increase' as a result of the Sunderland's promotion back to the English Premier League. Clubs in the EFL Championship, German Bundesliga and MLS are believed to be eyeing a move for the Australian. Sunderland defender Nectar Triantis is a wanted man this summer. | Chris Fryatt Scotland star 'opens talks' Motherwell wonderkid Lennon Miller is edging closer to the Fir Park exit door, according to a report from transfer guru Nicolò Schira. The teenager midfielder is in the final year of his contract, and has been linked with a move to Celtic, Sunderland and clubs in the German Bundesliga this summer after impressing on his full international debut vs Liechtenstein in June. Head coach Jens Berthel Askou had denied denied the player was close to a departure last Friday, saying 'he's still a Motherwell player and we're very happy to have him here.' However, it now looks like the 18-year-old could be joining international teammate Lewis Ferguson at Bologna, after the Coppa Italia champions were said to have opened negotiations with Motherwell over a deal that would see him join I Rossoblu. The report states that talks are ongoing between the two clubs, with Miller offered a contract until 2029 at the Renato Dall'Ara Stadium, with the option to deal for a further year. The 38-year-old veteran had been strongly tipped to move to Glasgow rivals Rangers earlier this summer, after bringing his 13-year stay at the King Power Stadium to an end in June, though no move to Ibrox materialised. The report claims that West Ham United are ready to offer Vardy a route back to the English Premier League, with head coach Graham Potter a big admirer of the player, though he intends to use him more as an impact substitute at the London Stadium. His former boss at Leicester, Rodgers is said to be 'weighing up' the decision to launch a bid for the experienced free agent, with the Hoops head coach keen to strengthen his attacking options ahead of the Scottish Premiership opener against St Mirren later this week. Jamie Vardy has interest from Celtic, according to a fresh report. | Getty Images Rangers 'agree fee' Rangers are closing in on their eighth signing of the summer after agreeing a deal with Go Ahead Eagles for winger Oliver Antman, as per numerous reports. The 23-year-old, who is valued at around £5million, was one of the Eredivisie's standout players last season, but is set to become Russell Martin's newest summer arrival at Ibrox, with a deal likely to be completed 'in the next 24 to 48 hours.' Linked to Sheffield United earlier in the window, it appears Rangers have stolen a march on the Blades in the race for Antman, who scored seven goals and assisted a further 17 for his side last season. It is claimed that the two clubs came to an agreement over a transfer fee over the weekend, and contracts talks with the player have progressed quickly. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad
