2025 3M Open odds, picks: Is this the week Tony Finau turns it around?
Following the 153rd Open Championship at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland, the PGA Tour heads back to the U.S. for the 2025 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities. The first round from Minnesota begins Thursday morning as players make one last push for the FedExCup Playoffs in the coming weeks. Below we look at 3M Open odds from BetMGM Sportsbook's odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions. Many of the game's top players are taking the next 2 weeks off ahead of the playoffs, resting and recovering from the trip to Europe for the Open. As such, Sam Burns (+1600), Maverick McNealy (+1800) and Chris Gotterup (+2500) are all among the favorites this week, with former U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark (2500) and the always-popular Rickie Fowler (+4000) also teeing it up. Defending champ Jhonattan Vegas, who won at 17-under 267, opens at +6600. TPC Twin Cities (par 71) is 7,431 yards long and originally opened in 2000 but it underwent a slight renovation in 2024 when five tees were expanded and bunkers were rebuilt, according to the PGA Tour. It only features 3 par-5s so scoring opportunities will be a little bit limited, but players still tend to go low here; the winner has been 15-under or better each year since 2019. 3M Open – Expert picks Odds provided by BetMGM Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated Monday at 2:25 p.m. ET. Thompson missed the cut at the Open, but a few weeks ago he tied for 18th at the John Deere Classic and finished 34th at the Rocket Classic. Although he missed the cut here in 2023 in his tournament debut, he's a good fit for this course with his accuracy off the tee. He just needs to get the putter going before the playoffs. This is a short number for Burns, who's the tournament favorite, but he's the top player in the field and in excellent form. Since tying for 13th at the RBC Heritage, he hasn't finished worse than T-30 in a start in the U.S. This is a golden opportunity for him to nab his sixth career win after finishing 12th, 32nd and seventh here in his last 3 starts. Greyserman tied for second here in his debut last year and if not for a couple of missed cuts in the Scottish and British Opens, his odds would probably be shorter than this. But that just means this is a good time to buy some stock in a guy who's finished top 25 in 9 of his 22 starts this season, including a runner-up at the Rocket Classic in his last start in the States. 3M Open picks – Contenders Hoey tied for eighth at the Barracuda Championship last week, which was his third straight made cut and second top-11 finish in his last 3 starts. He made the cut and finished 67th in his tournament debut last year and will look to improve upon that this week. It's been a seriously disappointing year for Finau, who has just 5 top-25 finishes in 17 starts, but he showed signs of life at the Open Championship where he was in contention before fading on the weekend with rounds of 72 and 75. He won this event in 2022, finished third in 2020, seventh in 2023 and 12th last year, so he certainly knows his way around TPC Twin Cities. His worst finish here in 6 starts is a T-28 in 2021. Grillo was the runner up in 2022 after also finishing third in 2020, notching a T-10 in 2023 and T-24 in 2024. He appears to enjoy playing TPC Twin Cities, given his success here, and his game has been in good form for a while. He finished second at the John Deere Classic, losing in a playoff to Brian Campbell. Grillo also impressed with a T-19 at the U.S. Open in June. WATCH: Get ESPN+ 3M Open picks – Long shot Davis has missed 4 cuts and finished no better than T-57 in his last 6 starts, which makes it hard to feel very confident in him. But with such long odds at a course where he's come in 19th, 10th, 16th and 12th in 4 of the last 5 years, he's worth taking a shot on. Play our free daily Pick'em Challenge and win! Play now! British Open Sleepers: Which overlooked golfers could shock the world at Royal Portrush
The British Open will be the final major tournament of 2025. Although the favorites like Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy are always going to be in the running, it is a lot more fun to root for an underdog. With so many golfers competing in the tournament, it's nice when someone like Harris English, Davis Riley or J.J. Spaun can shock the world and compete for the top spot at one of golf's most prestigious tournaments, as has been the case this year. 2025 has seen a flurry of relative unknown come through on the biggest stages, so it would only make sense if you wanted to get in on that action as well for the final major of the year. But which golfer is the underdog who will take Royal Portrush by storm this weekend? Here are three sleeper picks that could wind up at the top of the British Open leaderboard (all odds provided via BetMGM): 2025 British Open sleeper picks Fowler has finished in the top 20 at four of his last seven tournaments. He's been playing well as of late and has historically been pretty solid on major links. With 13 career top-10 finishes at majors, he's also proven capable of coming up big in big moments. Playing on a course he's somewhat familiar with, Fox has all the momentum going into this tournament, having already posted two wins on the year and having not finished outside the top-30 at any tournament since May. He might not have performed exceptionally well at his other major tournament appearances in 2025 − tied for 19th at U.S. Open; tied for 28th-place at PGA Championship. That said, he hasn't missed the cut in 18 straight majors. After a fourth-place finish at the British Open a year ago, a 12th-place finish at the U.S. Open a month ago, and a top-10 finish at the Rocket Classic just two weeks later, Lawrence is playing his best golf of the year. Yes, he missed the cut at his most recent tournament, but his upside is fantastic for someone at +15000 odds.

South Africa's Potgieter grabs PGA Detroit lead
Aldrich Potgieter of South Africa grabbed the lead after the third round of the US PGA Tour Rocket Classic (Gregory Shamus) South Africa's 20-year-old Aldrich Potgieter birdied six of the first eight holes and seized a two-stroke lead after after Saturday's third round of the US PGA Tour's Rocket Classic. Potgieter, seeking his first PGA title in only his 20th tour start, reeled off five birdies in a row on the way to firing a bogey-free seven-under par 65 to stand on 19-under 197 after 54 holes at Detroit Golf Club. Advertisement "Being in contention is great," Potgieter said. "We're looking forward to tomorrow and maybe trying to just keep the ball in front, what we did today, hit a little bit more fairways and greens and if that putter just stays hot it will be good." Americans Max Greyserman, Chris Kirk, Andrew Putnam, Jake Knapp and Mark Hubbard shared second on 199 with South African Thriston Lawrence and Americans Michael Thorbjornsen and Jackson Suber on 200. "I just played really solid. Hit it really good. Gave myself a lot of chances," Knapp said. "With how bunched as this leaderboard is... you have to try to make as many birdies as you can." Potgieter, who managed his best PGA finish with a Mexico Open playoff loss to American Brian Campbell in February, began the day two adrift in a shootout. Advertisement The last group teed off with seven players sharing the lead on 14-under and 12 more only one stroke adrift. Potgieter took command early, blasting out of a bunker from 35 feet for birdie at the first then starting his birdie run with a putt from just inside eight feet at the fourth. He followed with a 33-foot birdie putt at the par-three fifth, dropped his approach inches from the hole at six to set up a tap-in birdie, sank an eight-foot birdie putt at the par-five seventh and made an 11-foot birdie putt at the eighth to reach 18-under with a three-stroke lead. Suber made back-to-back birdies at the ninth and 10th to reach 17-under and climb within one of the lead, but he fell back with a bogey at 12. Advertisement Potgieter, meanwhile, sank a birdie putt from just outside six feet at 13 to reach 19-under and restore a three-stroke edge. Knapp, who broke Potgieter's day-old course record of 62 with a 61 on Thursday, birdied the last three holes to shoot 66 and swipe a share of second. "I definitely thought I could get that course record back today with that six-under front nine," Potgieter said. "I was definitely trying to chase that course record again." Davis Thompson's 66 to finish on 202 was the first PGA round since 2020 to feature three front-nine eagles. He made three in the first eight, starting with an 80-yard hole-out from the fairway at the opening hole. Advertisement He followed with a 37-foot eagle putt at the par-five seventh and drove the green at the par-four eighth to set up a seven-foot eagle putt. "I don't think I've ever had that," Thompson said. "I've had three eagles in a round before, but I haven't had it all in nine holes." js/bb

5 golfers who shockingly missed the cut at the 2025 Scottish Open
The 2025 Genesis Scottish Open continues on this weekend from The Renaissance Club in North Berwick with a number of big names in contention. American Chris Gotterup (-11) holds a two-stroke lead over the field after two rounds while Ludvig Aberg (-8), Matt Fitzpatrick (-8), Rory McIlroy (-7) and Xander Schauffele (-6) lurk behind him. But just as notable as the names battling it out on Saturday and Sunday are some of the names who didn't even make the cut. The Scottish Open serves as a warm-up for The Open Championship next week at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland. Hopefully these stars put the extra rest to good use. Collin Morikawa (+4) Pre-tournament odds: 25-1 to win Easily the most shocking name on the list if only because Morikawa seemed safely inside the cut line when the day began. The American shot a 68 on Thursday, was one-over through nine to start his Friday and then completely collapsed to shoot six-over on the back nine — including three straight bogeys to end the round. He finished with a disappointing 76 and will look to rebound at The Open next week. J.J. Spaun (+2) Pre-tournament odds: 60-1 to win It wasn't a bad week for Spaun, who shot an opening-round 70 to remain at even par, but he trended the wrong way with a two-over 72 on Friday with three bogeys. on just one birdie. Aldrich Potgieter (+2) Pre-tournament odds: 100-1 to win What a rollercoaster few weeks for the 20-year-old South African. After taking T6 at the Charles Schwab Challenge, Potgieter won the Rocket Classic, then withdrew from the John Deere Classic after three rounds for undisclosed reasons. Now he's cut from the Scottish Open after shooting 70-72 through two days. Max Greyserman (E) Pre-tournament odds: 80-1 to win Greyserman tied for runner-up at the Rocket Classic at the end of June after quite a few promising starts. That just couldn't continue on as the tour moved across the Atlantic. The American went 70-70 and had birdie putts on his final two holes on Friday that he may be thinking about quite a bit this weekend. Sungjae Im (E) Pre-tournament odds: 80-1 to win Im also went 70-70 in his first two rounds to miss the cut in what's been a pretty strange season overall for him. He has just three Top 10 finishes in 21 events this year while missing the cut in a third of his starts — including the John Deere Classic, RBC Canadian Open, PGA Championship and Genesis Invitational. Im did finish tied for seventh at The Open last year, so maybe he's due for another good week in a few days.
