Bills to face top rookie QB vs. Giants in preseason opener

The preseason always means focus on ones own team.
But there is a noteworthy mention for the New York Giants ahead of facing the Buffalo Bills before the two teams clash in their exhibition game on Saturday.
When the two sides meet, the Giants' lineup will feature top rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, as New York head coach Brian Daboll announced he will play in Buffalo:
Dart was the second quarterback selected at the 2025 NFL draft at No. 25 overall. Daboll, the former Bills offensive coordinator, has a lot riding on him in 2025 and wants the rookie to get as much seasoning as he can before the regular season.
Meanwhile, Buffalo's starters will play for a quarter... but Bills' starting QB Josh Allen will not play at all.
Dart discussing his first start can be found below:

Spain's Badosa withdraws from US Open

Spain's Paula Badosa, ranked 12th in the world, has withdrawn from the US Open, tournament officials announced on Friday. The 27-year-old Spaniard, who has battled back issues similar to those that kept her from the 2023 US Open, will miss the Flushing Meadows fortnight for the second time in three seasons after making a US Open last-eight run in 2024. Badosa, who reached her first Grand Slam semi-final at this year's Australian Open, has not played since losing to Britain's Katie Boulter in the first round at Wimbledon. Badosa had been set to pair with Britain's Jack Draper in mixed doubles as well as compete in women's singles. In an Instagram message posted Friday, Badosa recounted her struggles without saying she would drop out of the US Open. "I wasn't built by easy days. I was shaped by the moments that broke me, the choices that didn't go as planned and the times I fell short of who I wanted to be," Badosa recalled on social media. "Failure taught me what success never could. It humbled me. It forced me to look inward, to ask hard questions, to rebuild with more intention and clarity. "Every mistake I made sharpened my understanding of who I am and who I'm not. And while I once feared those mistakes, I now see them as some of my greatest teachers." Badosa has won four WTA titles, the most recent coming last August in Washington. Her departure allows Swiss Jil Teichmann to reach the women's main draw for the Grand Slam showdown, which starts August 24. France's Alize Cornet moves into the first alternate spot for the main draw. js/nr

Pocket pancakes? Brewers selling ballpark flapjacks after Pat Murphy's viral moment

MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers are bringing manager Pat Murphy's strange eating habits to fans. Murphy went viral in a recent interview for pulling a pancake out of his uniform pocket and taking a bite — sharing the flapjack with the reporter — as he detailed different ways he shoves food into his pockets to snack on in the dugout. The moment has spawned quite the movement in Milwaukee. The ballclub announced Friday that 'Murph's Pocket Pancakes' will be sold at American Family Field during Sunday games for the rest of the season, starting with this weekend's series against the New York Mets. The Brewers haven't lost since Murphy whipped the pancake out of his pocket last week, building the best record in the major leagues. He went on to continue eating his pancake in the postgame press conference while detailing other food items he has brought into the dugout. 'Waffles, pancakes, pizza,' Murphy said. Murphy then was asked how he can put a slice of pizza in his pocket without staining the uniform. 'If it's cold pizza, you fold it up like a sandwich, you know what I mean,' Murphy said. 'You can eat it during the game. And then when I wear a hoodie, I have the pocket right here, and that's full of crumbs.' The Brewers will be selling a 'Ball Four Pocket Pack' including four pocket pancakes and a choice of maple syrup or strawberry compote dipping sauce for $4.99. The 'Double Chicken 'n' Pancakes Pocket Pack' costs $7.99 and includes two pancakes stuffed with chicken tender and topped with chopped bacon and a maple syrup drizzle. ___ AP MLB:

Kevin Warren says Bears are 'extremely focused' on building stadium in Arlington Heights

The Chicago Bears are in the market for a new stadium, and team president/CEO Kevin Warren shared a stadium update on Friday. Warren said the Bears remain "extremely focused" on building a stadium in Arlington Heights, the 326-acre property the organization bought in 2023 for nearly $200 million, and he said the organization is making great progress. The Bears are only considering Arlington Heights in Cook County, per Warren, and they are having weekly meetings with their leaders. 'We are still extremely focused on Arlington Heights," Warren said Friday. "…Plan is still to proceed forward this year.' The biggest thing standing in the way of the Bears breaking ground is a Mega Projects bill that remains on the docket. If it passes, Warren said the team is prepared to start construction immediately. Still, the goal is "to move dirt this year" and Warren is confident they'll be able to break ground in 2025. As for why the Bears won't be building in Chicago? Warren said finances didn't make sense for them to build a new stadium on the lakefront.
