CM Sukhu launches Anti-Chitta Volunteer Scheme, forms Nasha Mukti Board, and announces Rs 3,000 crore disaster relief plan
Addressing the state-level function at Sarkaghat in Mandi district after unfurling the national flag, the Chief Minister expressed deep concern over the growing problem of chitta (heroin) addiction among youth. 'Our government is committed to protecting the younger generation from the scourge of drugs,' he said. He noted that under the PIT NDPS Act, property worth over ₹42 crore had been seized from drug mafias, and chitta testing has been made mandatory in police recruitment.
Anti-Chitta Volunteer Scheme
Sukhu announced the launch of the Anti-Chitta Volunteer Scheme, under which trained volunteers will act as a link between the public and police. These youth volunteers will aid in spreading awareness, gathering intelligence, and providing timely, confidential information to the authorities. 'Incentives will be provided for these volunteers,' he said, adding that the scheme aims to create a grassroots-level response to drug trafficking.
Nasha Mukti Board for Prevention and Rehabilitation
The Chief Minister also announced the formation of the Nasha Mukti Roktham and Punarvas Board. This board will include representatives from departments such as Home, Health, Education, Social Justice, Youth Services, Panchayati Raj, and Prisons, along with NGOs and social scientists. The board's goal is twofold: to prevent substance abuse and to rehabilitate and reintegrate addicted youth into society.
An action plan for de-addiction and rehabilitation will be jointly prepared by NITI Aayog, AIIMS, PGI, and the State Health Department.
To strengthen the fight at the local level, anti-drug committees will be established in villages and panchayats. These will include the panchayat secretary, ASHA worker, Anganwadi worker, and a designated police constable. The committees will receive and share information, and police officers will be held accountable for regular meetings and monthly reporting.

Maoist camp in Gariaband busted by security forces, 16L cash seized
Raipur: A huge cache of arms and explosives was recovered from the forests of Gariaband district of Chhattisgarh when a joint team inter-district police, CRPF and CoBRA had launched an anti-Naxal operation on Sunday. Cash worth Rs 16.5 lakh was seized from the site of encounter. The forces were combing the forests of village Gobra in Manpur region when a group of armed Maoists opened firing upon the security personnel and faced retaliation, said Raipur range inspector general of police Amresh Mishra. After brief exchange of fire, Maoists retreated into forests. Security personnel launched a search in the area and recovered a dump of arms and ammunition, that indicated Maoists were hatching a plan for an attack. The joint team of Dhamtari and Gariaband district police along with paramilitary forces collected the cache and brought it back to base at district headquarters, the official said. It's believed that Maoists sneak into dense forests of Gariaband which they use for rest, hiding weapons and a movement route from Chhattisgarh to bordering Odisha. IG Mishra said that the entire operation was carried out with strict coordination between state police and central forces. Officials said the seizure has dealt a serious blow to Maoist activities in Gariaband, and search operations are being further intensified in the region. BJP MLA demands status report on SIT investigation in burials case
Members of Dharmasthala Bhaktabhimani Balaga took out a protest march in Nippani on Sunday against what they called attempts to defame Dharmasthala. The protestors walked to the Tahsildar office and submitted a petition to the State government through the Tahsildar. BJP MLA Shashikala Jolle, who is a former Minister, led the rally. She said that there is a conspiracy to defame Dharmasthala and the Dharmadhikari Veerendra Heggade. She said that some anti-Hindu forces are orchestrating the conspiracy with the support of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. 'However, all such conspiracies will die and the truth will come out. All the allegations against Dharmasthala and the Dharmadhikari will turn out to be false,' she said. 'We are organising the rally to express solidarity with Dharmasthala.
