Google is rolling out Gemini to more Wear OS smartwatches — here's what it brings and whether your device is eligible
Samsung's brand new Galaxy Watch 8, unveiled last week at Samsung Unpacked, is one of the first to wearables to debut with Gemini built-in. But Google followed the announcement up with confirmation Gemini would be rolling out to other Wear OS devices in the "coming weeks".
It didn't take long as we now have confirmation (via 9to5Google) that devices from the likes of OnePlus, Mobvoi and OPPO are starting to see Gemini become available. The only stipulation is a smartwatch needs to be running at least Wear OS 4 to upgrade to Gemini. So, if you're rocking a OnePlus Watch 2 or a Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 for example, you should be good to go.
Eligible Wear OS watch owners can find Gemini by navigating to the Play Store on your watch, scroll down to Manage apps and find the update labeled "Google Gemini on Wear OS".
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 may have just arrived, but that doesn't make the still-capable Galaxy Watch 7 any less enticing at nearly 34% off. Moreover, in 40mm, this is a great easy-wearing smartwatch for Android users in 2025 and will get a real boost from Gemini's AI smarts.
Gemini effectively replaces the Google Assistant (R.I.P) and lets you execute a ton of functionality from your wrist without having to use your hands. Which is super helpful if your hands are full because you're cycling, cooking or carrying something.
To enable Gemini, use the "Hey Google" wake command or — on some devices — you can press and hold the side button to fire it up.
Because it's baked into the OS, it will interact with certain apps. So, for example, you can ask it to give you a heads-up on what the weather is doing that day or if you have any appointments in your calendar coming up.

However, what really sets it apart is the ability to work across your apps simultaneously and avoid multiple steps. For example, if you're on a bike ride, you can ask Gemini to send a message to a contact, dictate the message and have it sent without needing to exit away from or interrupt your workout.

Google DeepMind's AI earns gold medal at International Math Olympiad
Google DeepMind has achieved a major breakthrough in AI performance by reaching gold medal status at the prestigious 2025 International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), one of the world's toughest math competitions for high school students. The AI system, a new and improved version of DeepMind's Gemini Deep Think, scored 35 out of 42 points, solving five out of six complex math problems with perfect accuracy. This marks a significant jump from last year, when DeepMind's earlier AI models (AlphaProof and AlphaGeometry 2) earned a silver medal with 28 points. The IMO's President, Prof. Dr. Gregor Dolinar, confirmed the achievement, praising the AI's solutions as 'clear, precise,' and often 'easy to follow.' That's a major compliment, given that the Olympiad problems are designed to challenge some of the brightest young minds on the planet. What makes this feat even more impressive is how the AI approached the problems. Unlike earlier systems, which needed human experts to rewrite the questions into computer-friendly formats, Gemini Deep Think worked entirely in natural language, reading and understanding the exact same problems given to human contestants, and solving them within the official 4.5-hour time limit. The model achieved this by using advanced reasoning tools, including something DeepMind calls 'parallel thinking,' which lets the AI explore multiple problem-solving strategies at the same time, similar to how skilled mathematicians think through different angles before committing to a solution. The system was also trained using new reinforcement learning techniques and a curated set of high-quality math solutions to boost its problem-solving abilities. Google plans to make this version of Gemini available first to trusted testers, including professional mathematicians, before rolling it out to Google AI Ultra subscribers. The development comes amid growing competition in the AI space. OpenAI also announced that one of its experimental models hit the same score, 35 out of 42, in the same IMO challenge. With both companies now demonstrating gold-level performance on a human math competition, this signals a major leap forward in AI's ability to reason logically, handle abstract problems, and produce rigorous, formal proofs. Google CEO Sundar Pichai described the progress as 'just astounding,' while DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis called it 'incredible progress' in AI's ability to handle high-level intellectual tasks. While the AI isn't replacing mathematicians anytime soon, its success opens up new possibilities for AI-assisted research, education, and mathematical discovery, and represents a milestone in machines tackling one of the most human of challenges: creative problem-solving through logic.

Google Maps is rolling out a new look for the listing page (APK teardown)
Rita El Khoury / Android Authority TL;DR Google Maps is getting a few UI tweaks for the listing page. The 'Popular times' section for a location has moved above the reviews section. The options for suggesting an edit, measuring distance, adding a missing place, and adding your business now have proper buttons. When you search for a place in Google Maps, say the Eiffel Tower, you'll see a listing page right under the map. The overview tab on that page contains a variety of information you may want to know, like ticket information, open and closing times, and the best times to visit. In Google Maps (version 25.29.00.782600971), we noticed a couple of UI tweaks to the overview tab on the listing page. First and foremost, we see that a Material 3 Expressive-like card interface has been adopted. Previously, each piece of information was separated by lines. Before the update, this section appeared under the review summaries. Now it has switched places, appearing right above the reviews portion. Old UI The last change we spotted deals with the options for suggesting an edit, measuring distance, adding a missing place, and adding your business to Google Maps. These options appear in the overview tab when searching for a particular place, such as a city/country, instead of a business. As you can see in the comparison screenshots above, all four of these options are now shown as proper buttons. This wasn't the news we discovered through an APK teardown today.
