Yeoh is an Oscar-winning actor. She got her Academy Award in 2023 in the Best Actress category for "Everything Everywhere All at Once".
The 62-year-old actor will essay the role of a retired surgeon who is abducted and forced to operate on a mystery patient.
Her latest work is "Wicked", where she co-starred with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. The film released in November 2024 and was directed by

‘Don't cast flop Amitabh Bachchan': Ramesh Sippy was warned against taking Big B in Sholay, here's why he decided to ‘bet on a newcomer'
As Ramesh Sippy's 1975 historic blockbuster Sholay completes 50 years since its release this month, one can't imagine the film without any of its cast members, including Amitabh Bachchan who played Jai, the more restrained of the leading duo Jai-Veeru. It's a little known fact that Bachchan hadn't tasted any box office success till he was cast in the film. Which is why several biggies of the Hindi film industry even warned Sippy against casting him. 'When we were celebrating the jubilee of Seeta Aur Geeta (1972) with a party at home, a lot of people came there. They were whispering and advising me not to take him because he had a row of flops before that. They said, 'Don't make that mistake, young man! Don't do it,'' recalled Sippy. He claimed they were 'supposed to be the most knowledgeable' as far as the business and box office were concerned. 'There was something about him that he felt right. There were a couple of good films in those that didn't work. In Anand (1971), Rajesh Khanna's role was far more expressive, and he (Bachchan) was the quiet man. But I don't think it would've worked if either of them hadn't worked. It's because he worked as the silent man that the other character got to take off,' argued Sippy, in the interview with Zoom. Sippy lauded Bachchan's versatility and pointed out 'he did right whatever he was asked to do,' as per the requirement of the film. 'There was another film in that period, Bombay To Goa (1972), in which he sang a song inside a bus which was so brilliant! Being such a huge guy, you could still see how his body movement was so free. He was so overpowering you might not remember the song, but you remember him because the way he moved around, there was no awkwardness. There should've been because he could feel it. But he had to blend himself, look right, and have the rhythm while singing away,' recalled Sippy. As shown in the Prime Video India docuseries Angry Young Men last year, Javed Akhtar had also spotted Bachchan after an impressive comic action sequence in Bombay to Goa. 'So when I saw these two contrasting characters and films, I felt here's a person who has the potential. Now, I already had so many accomplished stars, like Dharmendra ji (as Jai), Sanjeev Kumar (as Thakur), Hema Malini (as Basanti), and Jaya Bhaduri (as Radha). So let me take a chance with one, and it paid off,' added Sippy. They reintroduced him as the Angry Young Man, although his part in Sholay was a slight departure.

The joke's on ‘Param Sundari' and its mangled Malayalam
Theppu, or dumping, is an important part of modern Malayali dating culture. The stereotypical narrative is of two people dating in college, and then the woman dumping the man to marry someone who is perhaps richer, older, from the same community, etc. Perhaps an NRI with a silk lungi and not so much a spot of baldness as a spot of hair. Such real-life experiences have inspired many a volcanic eruption of male angst and misogyny. It can happen to women, too, of course. But you wouldn't expect the female lead of a Bollywood film to be named Thekkappetta Sundari (Dumped Beauty). The name of Janhvi Kapoor's character in the upcoming Hindi film Param Sundari has opened the floodgates of Malayali trolldom. It makes 'Shalini Onnikrishnan from Trivandrapuram' (The Kerala Story, 2023) sound positively authentic. To be fair, the name might not be intended as Thekkappetta and could be a distortion of some family name, but that's exactly what it sounds like when Kapoor is heard saying it in a trailer. There are a couple of other gems in that trailer, too: The Dumped Beauty is lecturing some north Indians about not conflating the different southern states and their film superstars, and, very confidently, refers to 'Malyalam' — exactly how the average north Indian says it. FYI, there should be a short 'a' before the 'y'. The lines in 'Malyalam' itself are incomprehensible — she allegedly calls someone mannunni (for Hindi speakers, it's roughly the equivalent of pappu) but I couldn't make it out. Intrepid keyboard warriors have also dissected the rest of the female lead's name. One does come across the occasional Sundaran or Sundaresan in real life, but the distaff counterpart, Sundari, is rare, perhaps unheard of today. The plausibility of her father being named Damodaram Pillai as opposed to Damodaran Pillai has also been questioned. On this, a note of dissent: Tamil names like Meenakshisundaram Pillai do exist. Perhaps the fellow in question is a Tamil Pillai from south Travancore. In any case, whoever came up with these names certainly didn't put this much thought into it, so let's move on. The trailer also includes the usual mélange of Kerala visuals: Kalarippayattu, Mohiniyattam, backwaters, boat race, blah blah blah. Clearly, this is a faraway, exotic land of scenic beauty, steeped in classical arts and martial traditions. It reminded me of the Tamil song 'Chennai Senthamizh' in M. Kumaran Son of Mahalakshmi (2004) — but at least that also associated some interesting things with Kerala such as plantains ('nenthiram pazhame neymeni nadiye…'). Twelve years after Chennai Express (2013), some are hopping aboard the outrage train again, frustrated by the stereotyped representation of south Indians in Hindi cinema. But there's not much point getting so worked up by the trailer of a film that you'll probably never watch and which isn't intended for you. The Malayali troll army's response is probably healthier and more proportionate: Just point and laugh. It's so stupid it's funny. If the male lead of Param Sundari is a Param Theppist (Supreme Dumper), my advice to Thekkappetta Sundari would be, 'Avan vendedi (Girl, you don't need him).' Perhaps a deeper point could be made about the socio-cultural — oh, who am I kidding? The only thing to say is this: Unintentional comedy is the best comedy.

Aryan Khan's directorial debut ‘The Ba***ds of Bollywood' first glimpse out
Netflix and Red Chillies Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. unveiled a first glimpse of the highly anticipated series The Ba***ds of Bollywood, marking Aryan Khan's directorial debut. In the first glimpse, Aryan's voiceover ushers in a romantic vibe only to close with a stinging rejoinder, kicking off the familiar Hindi film nostalgia. But what seems like a soft homage quickly flips into something sharper and louder. The makers described the series as as, 'Set against a filmy backdrop, the first glimpse signals a generational shift, where the romance of the past meets the vision of a new storyteller. The Ba***ds of Bollywood is a genre-defying series that blends self-awareness with cheeky humour.' Aryan takes centre screen for the first time, teasing his debut series. In the video, he says, 'Bollywood - jisse aapne saalon se pyaar bhi kiya aur vaar bhi kiya, main bhi wohi karunga, bohot saara pyaar… aur thoda sa vaar (You have loved Bollywood for years and attacked it as well. I will do the same).' The series hints at a stylised yet chaotic world, provocative yet rooted. The Ba***ds of Bollywood stars Bobby Deol, Lakshya, Sahher Bambba, Manoj Pahwa, Mona Singh, Manish Chaudhari, Raghav Juyal, Anya Singh, Vijayant Kohli, and Gautami Kapoor.
