NDA netas accuse Lalu of insulting Ambedkar

Time of India18 hours ago

Patna: NDA leaders in Bihar on Saturday demanded a public apology from RJD chief Lalu Prasad after a video went viral showing a party supporter placing a photo of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar near Lalu's feet on the latter's birthday on June 11.
In the video, Lalu does not touch the portrait and his security personnel move it aside. He also does not comment during the incident.
Union minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, deputy CM Samrat Choudhary and JD(U) state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha accused Lalu of disrespecting Dalits and EBCs and demanded a formal apology for "insulting" Ambedkar.
However, the RJD defended its leader. Party spokesperson Sarika Paswan said, "Lalu is the only one who truly respects Baba Saheb.
BJP will not understand this. The sentiments of that party worker are not being understood."
Still, BJP leaders insisted the video showed Ambedkar's picture placed on the ground near Lalu's feet.
Deputy CM Choudhary said, "The picture proved that Lalu hates the Dalit community and never respected Baba Saheb's thoughts. Insulting Dalits and backward classes is part of Lalu's work culture. Insulting Ambedkar on his birthday is a dark chapter in politics.
Watching the video, it becomes clear that Lalu has no respect for Baba Saheb. Insulting people of lower castes has been his habit. The public has recognised his dictatorial style.
"
Manjhi added, "Lalu sitting with his feet towards Baba Saheb is a big insult. The public should understand this."
JD(U)'s Kushwaha said, "Those doing politics in the name of Ambedkar are insulting him. This is their socialist thinking. Everyone worships him, and he is showing his feet."
Former Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, "The person who gave it may be a courtier, but what was Lalu doing? He should have understood that Ambedkar is the Messiah of the country."

Don't fall for monetary offers to switch sides, stay united: Uddhav to party workers

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday asked his party cadre not to fall prey to monetary offers for switching sides and appealed to them to stay united for the sake of Mumbai. The comments come ahead of the polls to various local and civic bodies in Maharashtra, including the cash-rich Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), likely to be held later this year. The Shiv Sena split in June 2022 after a rebellion led by Eknath Shinde and resulted in the collapse of the then Thackeray-headed Maha Vikas Aghadi government. The source quoted Thackeray as saying that the shakha pramukhs and other lower-rung cadres form the core strength of the party, and because of their unity and strength, the organisation won elections in Mumbai in the past. Live Events "For the civic polls, unity is necessary. You may be getting monetary offers to switch sides. For how much time will the money suffice? Those who want to finish off Uddhav Thackeray and Shiv Sena have only business angle in mind. They want to sell off Mumbai and hand it over to corporates," the source quoted Thackeray as saying. "Those who are falling prey to monetary considerations don't understand that they are being used and will be thrown away later," the former chief minister said. He asked the shakha pramukhs to reach out to people in all the 227 wards of the BMC, strengthen the grassroot network and connect with the people, the source said. Modernisation of police force began in Uttar Pradesh after BJP came to power in 2017: Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday (June 15, 2025) said that while modernisation of India's police forces began nationwide under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, Uttar Pradesh's efforts in this regard commenced only in 2017 after the formation of a BJP government under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. AAP leader Sonia Mann urges Congress to support government action against drug trafficking in Punjab

LUDHIANA: Responding to Congress leader Alka Lamba 's "statement" on the drug issue in Punjab , Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sonia Mann countered by saying that the role of the opposition is not just to criticise the govt but also to "acknowledge" and appreciate its "good work". Sonia Mann said that for the "first time", a govt in Punjab is taking such "massive action" against drug traffickers. 'Anti-drug committees have been formed in every village, and large-scale awareness campaigns are being conducted. This deserves praise, but it is unfortunate that opposition leaders are resorting to petty politics even on an issue like drugs,' she claimed. Sonia Mann further added that during Congress's tenure, several ministers and MLAs were themselves accused of being involved in drug trafficking. 'Alka Lamba should say something about that as well, and she should question Punjab Congress President Raja Warring on why he is advocating for opening opium theke, which would only encourage drug use,' she remarked. She alleged that the Congress and Akali govts "promoted" drug use in Punjab by providing political patronage to traffickers. 'This resulted in the destruction of thousands of families, with countless parents losing their children and many children becoming orphans. In contrast, the AAP govt is taking strict action against drug traffickers, sending them to jail, and demolishing their illegal properties. This has created a significant fear among drug traffickers,' Mann claimed. She urged Congress leaders to support the govt's "efforts" to rid Punjab of drugs as quickly as possible, instead of "politicising" the issue.
