Remains found of 7 missing workers after explosions at California fireworks warehouse, officials say
The coroner's office is still working to identify the remains. Autopsies and DNA testing are set to begin this upcoming week.
This comes as the state fire marshal and agencies across the region have been at the scene all day, with officials saying they planned to blow up some undetonated fireworks and hazardous materials at the scene Saturday with small, controlled explosions.
The explosion occurred Tuesday evening at a warehouse that was not permitted to store fireworks in Esparto.
That property is owned by Yolo County Sheriff's Lieutenant Sam Machado, a county official said. Machado's home on the property was destroyed in the explosions and it's unclear if he was injured.
On Friday, officials said human remains were located after the coroner's division gained access to the site, but details at the time were limited.
A family identified three brothers — 18-year-old Jesus Ramos, 22-year-old Jhony Ramos and 28-year-old Junior Melendez — as three of the seven who were missing.
A fourth person was also identified by family as Carlos Rodriguez.

Isleton City Council structure shaken up, meeting turns to chaos
There's political drama in the Delta, after the Isleton City Council ousted the mayor as part of a reorganization, naming a new mayor and vice mayor from within the council. Tensions were high at a chaotic meeting on Tuesday, where CBS Sacramento's camera was rolling. As the meeting went on, insults, opinions, and frustrations were shared by councilmembers, city staff, and members of the public who were in attendance in a packed city hall. Expletives were regularly thrown into comments and grievances from all sides. At the center of one of the most contested items was the now-former mayor, Iva Walton. Walton was accused of continuing to operate an outdoor dining area at her bar, Mei Wah Beer Room, after her encroachment permit was denied. At one point, Walton said: "It feels like dumping when her [councilmember Aleida Suarez] wife calls me a 'bad dog.' " Suarez responded: "You call us coffee b-----," adding, "this isn't about he said she said. This is about code of conduct." At times, other members of the public blurted out expletives as councilmembers spoke to each other, at times, outlining negative or untrue social media posts made about each other. Isleton has a $4.7 million debt, and a recent grand jury report outlined systemic issues that put the city on the brink of bankruptcy. Tuesday night, before chaos erupted, the council voted to send a letter of request to the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors requesting an $800,000 loan to address some of their immediate debts. Members of the public expressed concern amid the tense exchanges and council upheaval that the perception of their city may be impacted if they receive the county loan. "We just have to look at the future and how the person that's going to give us a loan and looks at what you guys are doing now. There's a TV camera here, there's a reporter here. How do you want to look to the public?" one speaker said. CBS Sacramento took the concerns about the impacts of the meeting to the city's acting finance director, who said on Wednesday that the city manager spent most of the day doing "damage control." "Change is going to be painful. This city has operated for one way for decades. To put them on the right path, it's going to look really rocky," said Jessica Bigby, acting finance director of Isleton. The now-mayor, David Kent, told CBS Sacramento it was good to get all of the thoughts, feelings, and opinions out in the open. "A bit of a deviation of sort of the standard session you would expect, but it was healthy and necessary in my opinion," said Kent. In a statement to CBS13, Walton said she believed the proper procedure was not followed, "and the complaints were largely personal attacks and had nothing to do with the leadership I brought to the chair/mayor council position."

Family grieves woman killed on Pomona freeway by loose truck tire
Family members of the woman killed by a wayward truck tire on the 60 Freeway in the Pomona this week are remembering her as a woman of faith who was always helping others, just as she was when the tragedy occurred Monday morning. Ingrid Zapata, 57, of Moreno Valley, was killed at around 2:30 a.m. Monday morning when the tire and rim of a pickup truck snapped off, bounced across lanes and over the freeway median before cutting through the top of her car. "She was the most beautiful person inside and out and she radiated love," said Zapata's daughter, Kimberly Paiz. "You know everyone one day is going to die. Just not that way. Not like that. Not her." Zapata, a mother of three and grandmother, was on her way home after driving a church friend to the airport earlier in the morning. Her husband Orlando is beside himself with grief. He says that his wife was his princess and that he'll love her forever. "She was always thinking about other people and not herself. She would be sick and still go to work," said Alejandra Alonzo, Zapata's sister. "I have to drive around." She was a long-time school bus driver on the Morongo Reservation, who many now remember as having a heart of gold. Family says that she worked hard to provide for and protect them, as well as everyone around her. They said that she often opened her home for people who needed a place to stay or eat, also helping people find work or get out of trouble. "It didn't matter your background. It didn't matter if you were right or wrong, if you needed help she was there for you," said Alvaro Reyes, Zapata's son. It's that lasting message that the family says has provided them some sort of peace in the middle of their unbearable loss. "I just feel like she helped the world and now I think it's time for the world to help her," said Carlos Jovel, another of Zapata's sons. "Put her to rest as she deserves." Family members are raising money online to help cover her funeral expenses. The GoFundMe can be found by searching for the keywords: "Remembering Ingrid's Unconditional Love." "Although we don't understand it, and we probably never will, she's in his glory," Paiz said. "And I think that's what she would want everyone to know. That she lied for God. And God's the one that took her in his perfect time, even though it wasn't our time." California Highway Patrol officers are still investigating the incident. They say that the truck driver has not been cited. Zapata's family wants to know if the incident was just a freak accident, or if there was possible negligence in how the tire was last installed.

Out-of-control driver plows into 4 vehicles in Southern California; 2 dead, 4 injured
Two people are dead and at least four others were injured in what authorities are describing as a high-speed multi-vehicle collision in Santa Ana Monday night. Officers with the Santa Ana Police Department responded to reports of the violent crash on Main Street just north of Warner Avenue at around 6:35 p.m., officials confirmed to KTLA. Santa Ana PD Public Information Officer Natalie Garcia told reporters that the department received multiple calls about a vehicle traveling down Warner Avenue at a high rate of speed. 'It's very preliminary at this point. We know that – based on video surveillance that's circulating – a vehicle was travelling at a really high rate of speed northbound on Main when it lost control, went into the southbound lanes of traffic, driving on the wrong side of the road,' Garcia said. Dashcam video posted to Instagram moments before the crash appears to show a driver behind the wheel of a BMW speeding northbound down Warner Avenue in southbound lanes, narrowly missing the Tesla that captured the video. Arriving police and crews with the Orange County Fire Authority found four vehicles involved in the collision, several of whom were trapped inside the wreckage of one vehicle and had to be extricated. All four were rushed to a nearby hospital in unknown conditions. Two other victims, each in separate vehicles, were declared dead at the scene. Santa Clarita park a problem spot for late night parties, underage drinking It is unknown if the person speeding on the wrong side of the road was killed during the crash. In footage of the aftermath obtained by KTLA, firefighters can be seen attempting to get inside one of the involved cars, which was completely destroyed, with its entire front end smashed beyond recognition. Two other vehicles, a Honda and a Toyota SUV also both sustained devastating damages. Authorities said the investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing and that it's too early to determine whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
