Severe storms hit Southeast Michigan, causing flooding and power outages
The Wayne County Airport Authority is urging residents to watch for flooding near the Detroit Metro Airport. Officials say there is flooding "at several locations across the Detroit Metro Airport campus, including the Dingell Drive tunnel," and it is impacting flights.
"We encourage you to check with your airline before heading to DTW," the authority said.
The Romulus Fire Department said it has received reports of people trapped in their vehicles in the underpasses.
As of 4:50 p.m. on Monday, more than 9,000 customers are without power. Meanwhile, more than 6,000 Consumers Energy customers are without power.
Dearborn Heights Mayor Bill Bazzi advised residents and business owners to move their vehicles from low-lying areas and relocate expensive items to higher levels.
"Residents are advised to remain aware of changing weather conditions, and take appropriate actions to ensure their safety should conditions deteriorate. Residents are also advised to, if possible (as a precaution), move valuable/irreplaceable items from the lower levels of their structures to a higher, safer level and stay tuned to local media outlets for future weather-related information," Dearborn Heights city officials said.

Colorado sees weekend cooldown before heat returns

Heat advisory issued for Miami, Broward with possible showers. See timeline
A heat advisory is in effect for South Florida on Saturday as forecast "feels- like" temperatures will be 105 to 100 early afternoon. A few showers are possible mainly over the interior later this afternoon providing limited relief to the heat and humidity. The heat advisory will expire at 7 p.m. as temperatures cool slightly bringing heat index values down below 105 degrees. Showers and storms will increase by the end of the weekend and next week as a southeast breeze brings a little more moisture into the area. The increased storm chances will keep high temperatures down and provide some relief to the heat each afternoon. High temperatures will be slightly cooler as a result of the increased storms by the middle of next week. An aera of low pressure is being monitored off the coast of North Caroline for development over the next few days. Development or not it will be moving east northeast away from the coast stay over open water to our north. There is no other areas expected to develop over the next seven days.

Mild start to August. Temperatures to remain in lower 90s with possible showers this week
It has been a very mild start to August, which is one of the hottest months of the year. Typically, the average high temperature is 97 degrees, but over the next several days, highs will remain below average in the lower 90s. Saturday at DFW, the forecast high is 91 degrees with a chance of an isolated storm. Sunday, a couple of short waves will initiate rounds of storms across North Texas. The first round is expected in the morning, when storms will move across the northwestern counties and should fizzle out by the afternoon. The next wave is expected on Sunday night. This may impact the "Loud for Love" benefit concert. If planning on attending the event in person, be sure to bring an umbrella. More rain will be possible through late Monday morning. A ridge of high pressure will build starting this next work week, bringing back the sunshine and hot temperatures. Drier weather returns starting Monday afternoon. However, the heat isn't expected to reach the average high until Wednesday. Though temperatures will be at or a few degrees above average by mid-week, the heat index value could reach up 107 degrees.
