"Congress saddened when country moves ahead": Kiren Rijiju
New Delhi [India], June 12 (ANI): Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Thursday took a dig at the Congress party saying that he has no cure for the main opposition party, which he alleged plunges into sorrow whenever the country moves ahead.
The BJP MP highlighted India's growth in the last 11 years, pointing out that India's exports have risen to USD 800 billion from USD 50 billion.
'In the 11 years, so much work has been done that it's difficult to count the names of the schemes... In all aspects, we are moving towards complete self-reliance, and exports have also increased exponentially and reached more than USD 800 billion. When I was a new minister, we were importing almost everything. Our exports were not even USD 50 billion... If Congress gets saddened when the country is moving ahead, but the people of the country are happy, then I have no cure for them,' the Union Minister told mediapersons.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Rijiju said that the Lok Samvardhan Parv is 'an important programme.'
'The skills that we have in the villages - this programme has been initiated with an aim to bring their products into the market, to give them a platform. It will also help the mobility of the products from different states to one another...,' he said.
To commemorate the completion of 11 years of the Government with Empowerment, Inclusion, and Cultural Pride, the Ministry of Minority Affairs is organising Lok Samvardhan Parv from June 11- June 15 at the Birsa Munda Lawn, Gandhi Darshan at the Raj Ghat in the national capital.
The event is envisioned as a celebration of inclusive development, showcasing the Ministry's key schemes, programmes, and achievements under the vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas. It also highlights the Ministry's continuous efforts towards the economic empowerment of minority communities, especially artisans and traditional craftspeople.
According to a statement, this edition of Lok Samvardhan Parv will provide a vibrant platform to over 50 artisans from Northern States of India, enabling them to exhibit and sell traditional crafts, engage with potential buyers, and build market linkages.(ANI)

Mumbai: Former civil aviation minister Praful Patel has called on the Tata Group to fine-tune key aspects of Air India's operations, a day after the airline's Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft with 242 people onboard crashed shortly after takeoff in Ahmedabad. At least 265 people have been confirmed dead as of Friday, including students at a medical college's hostel and others in a residential area near the Ahmedabad airport where the plane went down. 'After three-and-a-half years of the takeover of Air India by the Tatas, the management needs to fine-tune various aspects of running a world-class airline, including maintenance,' Patel told reporters at the Nationalist Congress Party's office in Mumbai on Friday. The 68-year-old was the civil aviation minister in the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government when Boeing introduced the Dreamliners in 2011. Asked about India's proficiency in maintaining and repairing aircraft, Patel expressed concern over the 'under-utilisation' of domestic facilities. Before the Tata takeover in 2022, most of Air India's planes were maintained by Air India Engineering Services Limited, the country's largest aircraft maintenance company, which is government-owned. However, many planes are now being managed by other agencies, he said. 'We have a world-class set-up, but it is surprising why some planes of Air India are sent outside the country for maintenance. Air India Engineering Services Limited has always maintained Air India for a long time, and their services should be utilised. It is surprising that aircraft are sent outside. Boeing's maintenance and repair facility at Nagpur has a good track record. However, the facility has been underutilised,' he added. Terming the accident a temporary setback, Patel said India's aviation sector remains largely well-managed. 'We have potential for growth and a need for more aircraft, looking at the size of our country. Any accident has a temporary setback, but largely, Indian aviation is well managed. SOPs and safety norms are well in place in India's aviation growth,' he said. Thursday's accident is being probed by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), which comes under the civil aviation ministry. Patel refused to speculate on the reasons behind the crash and said everyone should wait for the AAIB's report. 'The black box has been recovered. While the data will be retrieved within a few months, it will take a little longer for the government to come out with a report detailing the exact reasons behind the crash,' he said. Patel also played down speculation that a bird hit may have led to the crash. 'Even if one of the two engines had failed, technically, the plane is equipped to take off and travel the full distance. Watching the video, it seems that there was no problem at the time of the takeoff. Otherwise, the pilot would have avoided it,' he said. The NCP leader also called on passengers not to be scared of air travel following the crash. 'India's overall safety standards are well-defined and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation keeps updating these norms in line with international norms,' he said. Meanwhile, Tata Group chairman N Chandrasekaran on Friday described the crash as 'one of the darkest days in Tata Group's history.' In a letter addressed to employees, Chandrasekaran conveyed his grief over the loss of lives, calling the tragedy 'incomprehensible.' 'Words are no consolation right now, but my thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the people who died and were injured in the crash. We are here for them. I want to say that, like you, we want to understand what happened. We don't know right now, but we will,' Chandrasekaran wrote in the letter. With inputs from PTI

Middle East conflict hits stocks of crude oil-sensitive firms
New Delhi: Shares of crude oil sensitive sectors — oil marketing companies, aviation, paints, adhesives and tyres — declined on Friday following a spike in global oil benchmark Brent crude prices amid escalating tensions in the Middle East. The stock of BPCL fell by 1.90 per cent, Indian Oil Corporation dropped 1.78 per cent and HPCL declined 1.41 per cent on the BSE. In intra-day trade, BPCL tanked 6.11 per cent, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd tumbled 5.34 per cent and Indian Oil Corporation dropped 3.91 per cent. Shares of InterGlobe Aviation edged lower by 3.71 per cent and those of SpiceJet dipped 1.95 per cent. During the day, SpiceJet fell 5.64 per cent and InterGlobe Aviation dropped 5.62 per cent. Global oil benchmark Brent crude jumped 8.39 per cent to USD 75.20 a barrel. 'Geopolitical tensions are heating up, and it's impacting the oil market! Israel's airstrikes on Iran have sparked fears of supply disruptions, causing crude oil prices to surge. The worry is that the situation could escalate into a full-blown regional crisis, which would have significant implications for global oil supplies,' Navneet Damani, Group Senior VP, Head Commodities Research, Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd, said.

"I pay humble tributes to him": Nitin Patel expresses grief over Vijay Rupani's demise in Air India plane crash
Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], June 14 (ANI): Gujarat's former Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel on Friday expressed deep anguish over the loss of life of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani in the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad on Thursday. Speaking to the mediapersons, Patel said, 'Hearing the news and watching it on TV has pained lakhs and crores of Gujaratis and crores of BJP workers. Vijay Rupani was a CM with whom I received the opportunity to work as a Deputy CM. We worked for the state like brothers. On behalf of all of us, I pay humble tributes to him.' Former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani was among the 242 passengers on the Air India flight bound for London that crashed soon after taking off from Ahmedabad, killing 241 people on board. One passenger survived the crash. Earlier in the day, Adani Group Chairperson Gautam Adani visited Vijay Rupani's residence. Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party President JP Nadda also expressed sorrow and grief over the tragic demise of Vijay Rupani. On Thursday, the Al-171 Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 aeroplane bound for London's Gatwick had crashed shortly after it took off from the Ahmedabad International Airport. The airlines said only one out of the 242 people on board the aircraft survived the crash. The aircraft was piloted by Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, a Line Training Captain with 8,200 hours of flying experience, assisted by First Officer Clive Kundar, who had logged 1,100 flying hours. According to Air Traffic Control (ATC), the aircraft departed from Ahmedabad at 1339 IST (0809 UTC) from runway 23. It made a Mayday call to ATC, but thereafter, the aircraft did not respond to the calls. Immediately after departing from Runway 23, the aircraft crashed outside the airport perimeter, and heavy black smoke began emanating from the accident site. Vishwashkumar Ramesh miraculously survived the Air India plane crash a day ago, in which 241 other passengers died. Kumar, a British national of Indian origin, was seated in row 11, at the left window seat in the flight's economy class section, right behind an emergency exit. There were 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian national on board the crashed plane, airline authorities said. (ANI)
