Welcome to Shark Week 2025 on the Discovery Channel; here's how to watch
The goal of "Shark Week" has always been education and reducing the fears with biologists, conservationists and field researchers. However, while Discovery is not going full Sharknado on us this year, there's going to be a little nightmare fuel with shows like "Great White Reign of Terror" and 'Florida's Death Beach."
Steve Kessel, director of marine research at Chicago's Shedd Aquarium, applauds the educational possibilities of Shark Week, even when the outlandish outweighs the science.
'Since Shark Week started, it's gone in waves of more educational and more sensational," Kessel says. 'Shark Week has the power to change perceptions, but there's also fearmongering, because people love to be scared; they love the horror.'
Here's what you need to know about Shark Week.

Julia Lemigova Breaks Silence on Wife Martina Navratilova's Surrogacy Comments
Julia Lemigova had a lot to answer for during the latest episode of Watch What Happens Live. Not only did she have to address her actions from this season of Real Housewives of Miami, but she also had to address the online antics of her wife, Martina Navratilova. Although Martina and Julia just adopted two babies, the former tennis champ spends a great deal of her time sharing bigoted content on her social media. Normally, she targets the transgender community, but earlier this summer, she shared a wildly regressive opinion on surrogacy that left fans up in arms. According to Julia, it was all taken out of context. Julia Lemigova said Martina Navratilova's surrogacy comments were taken out of context Martina's original post about surrogacy said, 'Surrogacy is just wrong. You can't have it all.' That's pretty cut and dry. The comment arrived as a response to a writer sharing an opinion piece about the 'risks' of egg donations. Martina deleted the post, but RHOM fans haven't let her off the hook. In the July 30 episode of Watch What Happens Live, Andy Cohen, who has two children via surrogate, asked Julia for her response to the backlash. At first, the RHOM seemed surprised that she was even being asked about it. 'Um, that's a question, to me?' Julia asked in disbelief, before wading into the controversy. 'Well, you know Martina and I share a bed, but we don't share a brain,' the RHOM star continued. 'We don't always agree on different views, but I believe in surrogacy and it was kind of put out of context, and I completely disagree with her comments.' 'You're not in control of her Twitter,' Andy added, to which Julia agreed. Unfortunately, Andy didn't ask Julia to address her wife's rampant transphobia, although plenty of viewers submitted questions on the topic. Perhaps that's also being taken out of context? We may never know. The Real Housewives of Miami airs on Wednesdays at 9/8c on Bravo. Stream it the next day on Peacock or Hayu in the UK and Ireland. Real Housewives of Miami Fans Slam Martina Navratilova
Fans of The Real Housewives of Miami aren't being shy in sharing their thoughts on Martina Navratilova, Julia Lemigova's wife. The former tennis pro spends a majority of her time these days spouting out transphobic nonsense on her social media, and fans couldn't help but call out the irony after RHOM's latest episode. RHOM viewers aren't enjoying Martina Navratilova during Season 7 On The Real Housewives of Miami Season 7 Episode 7, the cast attended the National LGBTQ Task Force gala after Julia received an on-screen invite from Queer Eye star Karamo Brown. Right before the episode aired, Julia's wife was sharing transphobic posts on Twitter/X, just like she does every single day. Thus, RHOM fans sounded off. One person on Twitter/X called Julia's attendance at the gala 'fake allyship.' Another fan wrote, 'Why does Julia and Martina CONSTANTLY forget the T in LGBTQ????' A third viewer noted, 'What does TERF Martina have to say about Julia attending an LGBTQ+ event? #RHOM.' Meanwhile, other RHOM fans took aim at the adoption storyline playing out with Julia and Martina. They adopted two Black boys, and they showed them on camera for the first time in Episode 7. Considering Martina's past problematic comments about Venus and Serena Williams, and Julia throwing a drink on her Black castmate this season of RHOM, some fans are questioning their ability to navigate the cultural nuances that come along with raising Black boys in the United States. 'God help Julia and Martina's kids if even one of them ends up being trans. I feel so disgusted watching these terfs, I gotta fast forward every time. And I love goats! If I'm fast forwarding goats it's f*cking serious,' said one frustrated RHOM fan. Another added, 'Why is no one talking about Martina saying the boys 'feel like puppies'?! TF does that even mean? #RHOM.' Of course, some viewers are questioning if Martina's behavior could impact Julia's status on the show. Between the transphobia and the micro-aggressions, there's a swath of RHOM fans feeling like something has got to give. 'So first of all Julia throws water over a cancer survivor. Then Martina with her jabs at surrogacy and now they have their boys in Balenciga attire,' a critical fan wrote. 'Julia really has no interest in staying employed, huh? #RHOM.' This isn't the first time Martina has been called out by the Bravo community. She previously shared her thoughts on surrogacy, calling it 'wrong.' The former tennis pro quickly deleted the post once fans pointed out that Julia's boss, Andy Cohen, has two children via surrogate. The Real Housewives of Miami airs on Wednesdays at 9/8c on Bravo. It streams on Hayu in the UK and Ireland. TELL US – WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE CRITICISM MARTINA HAS RECEIVED? DO YOU THINK HER ONLINE BEHAVIOR COULD IMPACT JULIA'S STATUS ON THE SHOW? Julia Lemigova Defends ‘Rude' Wife Martina Navratilova After RHOM Backlash
This season of Real Housewives of Miami is full of drama and tea. And much of it is centered around Julia Lemigova, her wife Martina Navratilova, and Julia's former bestie Guerdy Abraira. The two have been feuding all season leaving fans confused. And their significant others have been swept up in the hurricane. Julia and Guerdy's feud began almost immediately. Fans were surprised at how quickly it seemed to escalate and over something that seemed so trivial. And for all the twists and turns, it looks like the two remain on the outs. And fans aren't just calling out their bad behavior but also the reactions of their respective spouses. Real Housewives of Miami's Julia Lemigova answered questions about wife Martina Navratilova during WWHL There were moments when it seemed that perhaps Julia and Guerdy were ready to put the drama behind them. Or, at the very least, agree to a truce. But despite apologies being sent and the girls agreeing to keep their business between themselves, they just couldn't seem to stop involving the group in their drama. On a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Julia addressed a bit of what was happening between her, Guerdy, Russell, and Martina. Andy started it off by asking Julia if she wanted to know what the number one question from the fans. Julia seemed to brace herself as she said, 'Let me guess…' knowing full well what it was going to be about. 'Why did you expect Russell to be nice to you when you threw water at his wife, Martina was super rude to Guerdy, and all she did was fail to join a Zoom call?' Andy asked. 'It's complicated,' Julia answered. 'It wasn't that I was expecting Russell to be nice, I just wanted to talk to him like two humans. And I don't think Martina was rude to Guerdy. Martina is a little camera shy and she just wanted to keep to herself.' Julia finished by saying, 'And she didn't want to make a scene at Lisa's party.' Fans in the comments weren't having it though. Some said Martina was anything but camera shy and that it was really that complicated. The Real Housewives of Miami airs on Wednesdays at 9/8c on Bravo. You can stream it the next day on Peacock and Hayu in the UK and Ireland. TELL US – WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT JULIA'S ANSWER? DO YOU THINK MARTINA WAS RUDE?
