Welcome to Shark Week 2025 on the Discovery Channel; here's how to watch

Yahoo3 days ago
The Discovery Channel is getting in on the celebration of the 50th anniversary of "Jaws" when its annual "Shark Week" hits the air this week.
The goal of "Shark Week" has always been education and reducing the fears with biologists, conservationists and field researchers. However, while Discovery is not going full Sharknado on us this year, there's going to be a little nightmare fuel with shows like "Great White Reign of Terror" and 'Florida's Death Beach."
Steve Kessel, director of marine research at Chicago's Shedd Aquarium, applauds the educational possibilities of Shark Week, even when the outlandish outweighs the science.
'Since Shark Week started, it's gone in waves of more educational and more sensational," Kessel says. 'Shark Week has the power to change perceptions, but there's also fearmongering, because people love to be scared; they love the horror.'
Here's what you need to know about Shark Week.

What to expect from Shark Week this year?
For the 37th annual Shark Week, there's going to be something special – Dancing With the Sharks.
According to Discovery.com, the show with television personality Tom Bergeron features an underwater dance competition between expert divers and their shark partners. Blending skill, grace and the daring pursuit of the ultimate underwater thrill, five divers will compete to show off their skills during epic underwater dances.
"Jaws" gets its due with "Surviving Jaws,' which features marine biologist Tom 'The Blowfish' Hird and predator ecologist Michelle Jewell diving with great white sharks to answer movie-related questions such as "Does skinny-dipping really attract great white sharks?"
There's also "How to Survive a Shark Attack," "Great White Sex Battle," "Frankenshark" and "Attack of the Devil Shark."

Are there copycats of Shark Week?
Since the Discovery Channel has had such great success, you had to know there would be copies.
National Geographic's SharkFest began in 2012 as a one-week TV event and has since grown into a multiweek shark TV celebration with 25 hours of predator programming that streams on Disney+ and Hulu, this year through July 21.
Netflix dives into the summer shark frenzy in 2025 with two major projects. "Shark Whisperer," a documentary following the controversial social media star and marine activist Ocean Ramsey, who interacts with great whites and tiger sharks in viral videos. Also, there's the competition "All the Sharks," which pits shark enthusiasts in a race to photograph rare species, combining conservation with competition and showcasing cool sharks.

Eastern Accents Announces Exclusive Coastal Collaboration with Barclay Butera

In the midst of summer, it's the right time to bring in natural light, coastal colors, and fresh, cool materials. One Chicago-based brand has the perfect collection for this. Eastern Accents, known for their American-made quality, has been a leader in soft home furnishings for over 30 years, consistently setting trends in the luxury bedding market. For a bright, summery collection, they've partnered with renowned interior designer Barclay Butera. Drawing inspiration from the elegance and breathtaking colors of Barclay Butera's native Newport Beach, California, this collection captures coastal beauty and brings it effortlessly into the home environment. Eastern Accents and Barclay Butera's Corona del Mar bedding collection is a testament to coastal living at its finest. We met with these expert designers to get an inside look at this collection and how it came together to celebrate design, texture, and California living. Behind the Design: Barclay Butera Nestled along the stunning shores of Newport Beach lies the inspiration behind this coastal bedding collection: Corona Del Mar. The heart of this collection is the beautiful shades of blue, green, and white as well as the luxurious fabrics in the mohair and embroidered cottons that reflect the laid-back yet sophisticated spirit of the seaside. Drawing inspiration from his coastal upbringing in California, Barclay Butera infuses his designs with a sense of elegance and relaxed luxury. Butera, now a renowned interior designer, launched his firm in 1994 after growing up, inspired by his mother's work as a designer. This collection isn't the first time Butera has partnered with Eastern Accents; the two have been working together on numerous projects over the last decade, always with a shared passion for timeless, high-quality design. From chic beachfront retreats to opulent urban residences, Butera's portfolio showcases his unwavering commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and attention to detail. He brings his unique aesthetic - inspired by blue and white antiques, old Hollywood chic, and serene shorelines - to any of his luxury bedding pieces. This collection, Corona del Mar, was no different. Butera has been influenced by California's beautiful nature across his various looks. 'California living is all about indoor-outdoor flow, relaxed luxury, and effortless elegance,' he explains. 'The natural landscapes, from the beaches to the desert, inspire my use of color, texture, and light.' The goal for Corona del Mar, the team explains, was to create a palette that echoes the serene hues of the seaside, pulling beautiful and timeless blues, greens, and whites from the sea. With this vision, every piece tells a coastal story that's both contemporary and deeply connected to tradition. With luxurious fabrics, soothing coastal hues, and seaside elegance, Corona Del Mar offers luxurious coastal allure that evokes the essence of a breezy summer retreat. The Collection: Corona del Mar With attention to detail in mind, Corona Del Mar features a harmonious blend of luxurious fabrics, each chosen to ensure both comfort and style to this coastal bedding collection. One of the signature fabrics featured in this collection is Eastern Accents' Bach. In emerald, this fabric is a rich green mohair used on throw pillows. The team explains that the mohair was chosen to bring an opulent shine and smooth finish to the collection. Emulating soft nature, tranquility, and sea grass, it blends with this cool collection seamlessly. Contrasting the mohair is a breathable 200 thread count percale sheet set using Egyptian cotton. Cool and crisp, it brings in a fresh coastal breeze to the bedding. Percale, the team reveals, is known for its breathable, light quality. It's an ideal sheeting for warmer climates and sleepers, as well as being durably strong. In line with this beachy bedding, this makes it an ideal choice for summer beds, vacation homes, or anyone who prefers a cooler sleep. The star of this collection is the azure bed scarf and throw pillows which feature an embroidered geometric pattern. The team explains that this Esha Azure fabric is embroidered in India with a handcrafted look to it. Using embroidered fabrics infuses the bedding with intricate patterns and textures, transforming simple fabrics into works of art. It makes for a unique and detailed statement piece that sets this collection apart. The embroidered details tie in the rest of the coastal colors and add an organic texture to the whole set. Along with Corona Del Mar's green mohair throw pillow, other throw pillows include a deep blue and white brush fringe detail adding a soft and deep detail to the side edges. The designers explain that adding trim and embroidered fabrics to their bedding collections and throw pillows adds extra depth and luxurious texture. The tassel fringe and brush fringe add to the global style with their color story and texture. Perfect for summer nights and coastal homes, this California-inspired bedding collection was tailor made for this season. Barclay Butera's coastal motifs paired with Eastern Accents signature fabrics make this summer specialty come to life. Crafted with the beach in mind, this collection lets you bring a bit of Newport into your room. Whether you're drawn to its rich, natural colors, organic textures, or breathable fabrics, this exciting collaboration creates the ideal summer bedding. Nicola Peltz Beckham Goes Nude in Summer Vacation Photos with Brooklyn Beckham

Nicola Peltz Beckham is showing some — well, actually a lot of — skin while on vacation with her husband Brooklyn Beckham! The Lola actress, 30, posted a steamy bunch of photos to her Instagram account on Tuesday, July 22. 'best memories 🥺🏝️✨🌸🫶🏻🍸🛁⚓️🥹,' she captioned her carousel. In her first picture, Nicola wore a white pants set with a relaxed fit and a strappy crop top, paired with a matching elastic headband. She stared directly at the camera as she leaned against the rail on a yacht. Buildings on hilltops could be seen in the distance as the sunset. However, things quickly intensified in her second photo — where she went nude, strategically lying in a bathtub filled with water, covered up by her arms and legs. 'I took the photo in the bath,' Brooklyn, 26, wrote in the comment section, adding a red heart emoji. Moments later, he added, 'Love you xx.' The Transformers: Age of Extinction actress wasn't done with the eye-catching uploads. After her nude shot, Nicola added a photo of herself staring into a bathroom mirror with nothing but a white towel wrapped around her waist. She wore nothing up top, but used her hands, which were holding a martini, to cover up. Additional images showed the couple enjoying time lounging together on the luxury vessel. The Cloud23 CEO and the Bates Motel alum, whose romance dates back to October 2019, have been married since April 2022 when they exchanged vows during a lavish wedding in Palm Beach, Fla. Last month, the duo celebrated the fifth anniversary of their July 2020 engagement. Brooklyn proclaimed his love for Nicola, writing that asking "this beautiful woman" to marry him was "the best decision ever" in a June 23 post on Instagram. "I love you so much ❤️,' he captioned a mirror selfie of the couple. Never miss a story — sign up for to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. The same month, Brooklyn shared an intimate look at his back tattoo which consists of a note that Nicola wrote him before their April 2022 wedding. The note, which he has inked in a calligraphy font, reads, "My forever boy. Read this anytime you feel anxious. I want you to know how deeply loved you are. You have the kindest heart I've ever met and hope I never go a day without your love. I think you are so incredible. Just know we can get through it all together if you breathe slow and trust. I love you beyond. Love always, your future wifey." Read the original article on People

Days of Our Lives Recap: Sophia Lies to Tate About Giving Birth in Chicago

Days of Our Lives Recap: Sophia Lies to Tate About Giving Birth in Chicago originally appeared on Daytime Confidential. On today's Days of Our Lives recap: Stephanie's Pad: Stephanie is working away when Alex notices how stressed she is about her pitch to EJ. They chat, once again, about her erotic novel project and how worried she is she'll be discovered. Alex, once again, says he's done everything he can to ensure her anonymity. Alex wants to use a particular line about 'forbidden love' in a blurb for the book but she freaks out and says no and also wants it taken out of the manuscript (to whom is that line attributed?). He agrees before she exits. Alex calls Kate and says the author doesn't want to use the excerpt she chose. He hangs up and there's a knock on the door. He finds no one there but there is a package addressed to Stephanie. University Hospital – Kayla's Office: EJ arrives just as Kayla hangs up with Bo. They immediately snark back and forth. EJ wants an office at the hospital but Kayla thinks they are short on space. EJ says it's all good as he'll just take hers. Kayla suggests sprucing up a utility closet near the morgue. She says he may own the hospital, but she runs it. EJ says she used to run it. They argue about his newly implemented budget when she tells EJ to either give her autonomy to run the hospital or she's done. EJ avoids the ultimatum and asks to use Kayla's office for his upcoming meeting with Stephanie. University Hospital – Lobby: Javi is telling Sarah about Holly and Arianna Grace's kidnapping and rescue. Sarah recalls when Victoria was kidnapped and then asks about Little T. She thinks it's clear how much he and Leo love that little boy. Javi admits he is dreading the day they have to give him up. Sarah recalls bonding with a child (Rachel) who she had to give up. She gets a little teary eyed and Javi gets all kinds of apologetic. Sarah says it's not about him as she is simply missing her daughter. Sarah calls Xander and screams at him about keeping Victoria from her. She hangs up just as Kayla arrives to ask what's wrong and give her a supportive hug. Chicago: Sophia is freaking out about all the lies she's telling but Melinda says she'll be able to see it through. Just then, Tate calls again but she ignores it. Melinda says they should stick to the plan so Tate will never know the baby left at the fire station is theirs. She says it's time for them to head back to Salem to deal with Tate and her mother. Marlena and John's Penthouse: Tate runs in telling Brady Sophia is in labor. He talks a mile a minute about Holly and Arianna Grace which stuns Brady. He wants to go to Chicago, but Brady stops him and says he will drive his son. Tate says he keeps calling Sophia and has no clue where she is in the city. Just then, Sophia calls and says she's on her way home as she already had the baby. She lies saying they had a daughter. They hang up and he tells Brady about his daughter. He wonders why Sophia didn't wait for him to meet with the couple in Chicago. Brady defends her saying she wanted to get on with his life much like Tate should. Tate thinks he will always wonder about his daughter and hoping she's having a good life. He gets all teary-eyed when he thinks about having a child who he will never know. Brady promises to support his son every step of the way and they embrace. Hernandez House: Leo holds the baby whilst talking to Chad about being a juror for Johnny's trial. They quickly hang up and he wonders aloud if Johnny is guilty. Javi arrives home and updates Leo on Arianna Grace and Holly. Leo asks about young Douglas and Javi asks if he had any idea the loan sharks would go after Arianna and Holly. Leo says he had no idea young Douglas and Arianna Grace even knew each other. Javi believes him but doesn't understand why he would help a perfect stranger. Leo says he sees himself in Doug and wanted to support him the way John and Marlena did him. He says Javi has changed him for the better and is an open book with him the same way Javi is with him (or is he…). Leo has to leave and gives Javi all kinds of directions about watching Little T. University Hospital – Kayla's Office: Stephanie arrives and is surprised to find EJ in her mother's chair. Stephanie says she is on board to take on the hospital as a client but won't do so unless he accepts all of her terms. She says she won't do anything to undermine her mother and EJ agrees. Next, Stephanie insists there will be no lying, cheating nor stealing on behalf of him or the hospital and EJ agrees. He asks if they have a deal and Stephanie agrees. Just then, Kayla walks in and wonders what the hell is going on. She's furious Stephanie didn't take her advice and accepted the job with EJ. With that, Stephanie exits. Kayla orders EJ not to corrupt her daughter. EJ says he hired her because of her skill as a publicist. Kayla wants to belabor the point but EJ makes his exit. Horton Square: Leo and EJ run into one another. Days of Our Lives Recap: Holly and Arianna Are Rescued Endings Leo reminds EJ they shouldn't be talking. EJ knows he is greedy, but Leo says he isn't like that any longer. He says he's not for sale and makes a quick exit. Stephanie arrives home and says she is officially working for EJ. She spots the package, and Alex says it arrived while she was out with no return address. Kayla tells Sarah about EJ hiring Stephanie to do PR for the hospital. They shift to talking about Xander and Kayla mentions he might benefit from therapy. She goes on to say Marlena offers intensive anger management counseling. Leo arrives home and tells Javi about his run-in with EJ. Sophia arrives to see Tate. He asks about the baby and Sophia says she's gone. Keep checking back for the latest Days of Our Lives recap!
