India Sends Doctors To Bangladesh After Deadly Jet Crash Kills 31, Mostly Children
India is sending a team of burn specialists and medical staff to Dhaka to assist victims of Monday's deadly fighter jet crash that killed at least 31 people, most of them children.
'A team of burn-specialist Doctors and Nurses with necessary medical support are scheduled to visit Dhaka shortly to treat the victims. They will make an assessment of the condition of patients with recommendation for further treatment and specialised care in India as necessary. Additional medical teams may also follow depending on their preliminary assessment and treatment," a statement by the Ministry Of External Affairs released Tuesday said.
The move comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences on July 21, assuring Bangladesh of India's full support following the country's worst air disaster in decades.
A Chinese-made F-7 BJI fighter jet crashed into the Milestone School and College in Dhaka on Monday, moments after students were dismissed from class. The crash killed at least 31 people and injured more than 170, according to officials. Ten of the injured remain in critical condition.
India's medical team will assess the condition of the injured and recommend further treatment or specialized care in India if needed. Officials said additional medical teams may follow based on the initial assessments.
As grief turned to anger in Dhaka on Tuesday, students held protests on the school campus, accusing authorities of downplaying the death toll.
'There were hundreds of students in that building. We saw body parts strewn all over the ground. Where are they?" a 17-year-old student told AFP, declining to be named.
Bangladesh's Ministry of Health said hospitals were still treating dozens of patients, and efforts were underway to identify victims.
The crash has triggered a wave of public anger, with demands for transparency over the investigation and accountability for what is being called the deadliest aviation accident in Bangladesh in decades.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will likely speak during the special debate on Operation Sindoor in Lok Sabha on July 29, according to multiple reports. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh began the special discussion on 'Operation Sindoor', India's military response to the Pahalgam terror attack, in Lok Sabha on Monday. The debate is expected to continue till midnight on Monday and resume on Tuesday at 11 AM. A report in NDTV said that PM Modi will speak on Tuesday evening, a report in Times Now said he would speak between 5 PM and 6 PM on Tuesday. A report in News18 said that PM Modi will speak at 7 PM. All reports were attributed to sources even as official word from the government on this is awaited.. Twenty-six civilians were killed in the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, after which India retaliated through precision strikes under Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Earlier on Monday, Congress said Home Minister Amit Shah must take responsibility for the "security lapses" that allowed the Pahalgam terror attack, while asking the Centre to clarify how many Indian jets were downed during Operation Sindoor and "before whom did Prime Minister Narendra Modi surrender" to halt the military action against Pakistan. Congress's deputy leader in the House, Gaurav Gogoi, said that according to the government, its intention was not to occupy territory. He asked the government why it was not so, as "if not today, then when will we take Pakistan-occupied Kashmir back"? Gogoi also slammed the government over US President Donald Trump's claim, made "26 times", that he used trade to bring about a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. The Congress leader said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been saying since the Uri and Pulwama attacks that "humne ghar mein ghus ke mara", "we destroyed terror infrastructure" and is making the same remarks even now. "They are still saying that Operation Sindoor is incomplete and Pakistan can do this again. Then how is this a success? They themselves are saying that our intention was not of war. Gogoi said there are just "35 Rafale fighter jets in the country" and if some have been downed, "it is a big loss". He made the remarks while referring to a statement of Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, who said in an interview that India rectified its tactics and hit deep inside Pakistani territory after suffering losses during Operation Sindoor. Referring to Singh's speech earlier, Gogoi said he gave a lot of information, but did not say as the defence minister how the terrorists came to Pahalgam. "The country wants to know ... 100 days have passed, but this government has not brought the terrorists to justice," he said. The home minister kept saying that the backbone of terrorism has been broken, but the Uri, Balakot and Pahalgam incidents still happened, he said. "Who will take responsibility, the (Jammu and Kashmir) LG? It is the home minister who must take responsibility. You cannot hide behind the LG. This government is such a coward and is so weak that it blamed even tour operators for the Pahalgam attack," the Congress leader said. Amit Shah said the opposition had faith in a foreign country rather than India's foreign minister, which is why they are sitting on opposition benches. Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a scathing attack at the opposition parties for disrupting External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar's address in Lok Sabha on Monday, saying they would rather believe some foreign country than the country's own foreign minister. As opposition parties interrupted Jaishankar's speech, Shah got up and said, 'They (Opposition) don't have faith in an Indian Foreign Minister, but they have faith in some other country. I can understand the importance of foreigners in their party, but that does not mean that they should impose this on House proceedings." 'This is the reason why they are sitting there (opposition benches), and will remain sitting there for the next 20 years," the Home Minister further said. Pahalgam Mastermind Suleiman Shah Was Ex Commando Of Pak Army's Elite Unit
After three months and six days, the security forces hunted down the mastermind of a terrorist attack in which 26 civilians were shot dead in the Baisaran valley of Pahalgam on April 22. The security forces avenged the attack by killing Hashim Musa, alias Suleiman Shah, in an encounter near Srinagar along with two terrorists today. Suleiman Shah, a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist, is a former commando of the Pakistan Army's elite unit - Special Service Group (SSG). He later joined UN-designated terrorist Hafiz Saeed's LeT to carry out terror activities, sources told NDTV. In a joint operation of the Army, CRPF and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Operation Mahadev was launched earlier this morning to track, corner and hunt down the terrorists. The killing of Suleiman in the operation is being viewed as a major success for the forces. After the Pahalgam attack, the Jammu and Kashmir Police had announced a Rs 20 lakh reward for anyone providing information about Suleiman. Suleiman infiltrated India in September 2023 and started terror operations in South Kashmir. In October 2024, he led an attack in which seven civilians were killed when terrorists opened fire on a camp housing workers of a private company who were building a tunnel. He was also involved in an attack in Baramulla in which four security personnel were killed in action. Sources in security agencies told NDTV that he was involved in at least six terrorist attacks. After the Pahalgam attack, a house-to-house search was carried out by security forces to track Hashim Musa/Suleiman Shah. Operation Mahadev All the terrorists, it is learnt, were "high-value" targets and foreign nationals. According to reports, the security forces acted on an intelligence input and launched the operation in the Mulnar area of Harwan. The visuals show multiple guns in the hideout located deep inside a forest area. According to sources, Carbine and AK-47 rifles, 17 rifle grenades and other arms and ammunition were recovered during the encounter. Security forces suspect that the terrorists were planning a big action in Jammu and Kashmir. The security forces were keeping a physical and electronic surveillance. The forces got a clue about a Chinese ultra radio communication being active, after which the operation was carried out. The Lashkar-e-Taiba uses the Chinese radio for encrypted messages, and in 2016, it was also called WY SMS. Operation Sindoor On the intervening night of May 6 and 7, India carried out precision strikes around 1 am on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir in response to the Pahalgam attack. India struck bases in Pakistan and PoK from where terrorist attacks were being planned and executed. Nine sites were targeted in the strikes under the codename 'Operation Sindoor' - an ode to the women who lost their husbands in the Pahalgam attack. India's retaliatory strike was designed to dismantle key logistical, operational, and training infrastructure used by LeT, Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Hizbul Mujahideen, and other affiliated networks. Each of the nine sites selected for the operation had a history of association with major terror plots and infiltration attempts directed at India. One of the sites, Muridke, is the headquarters of the terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba, which is run by Hafiz Saeed, and Bahalwapur in Pakistan's Punjab province is the base of Jaish-e-Mohammad, an outfit run by Masood Azhar.
