CRPF Officer, 5 Others Injured In Largest Anti-Naxal Operation, 112 IEDs Recovered So Far

Forces suspect several top Naxal leaders are trapped in the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border area, although some may have managed to flee towards the Telangana side.
In one of the longest and largest anti-Naxal operations, a CRPF officer along with four others and two personnel from the STF have been injured. According to the CRPF, Assistant Commandant Sagar Borade was injured during the anti-Naxal operation in the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border area on May 4.
The CRPF also reported that a total of 112 IEDs have been recovered from the area, which is considered the last remaining stronghold of Naxal dominance.
Forces suspect that several top Naxal leaders are trapped in the area, although some may have managed to flee towards the Telangana side.
'During one of the most high-risk anti-Naxal operations underway in the KGH Hills along the Chhattisgarh–Telangana border, CRPF Assistant Commandant Sagar Borade sustained serious injuries. This operation, led by the elite 204 CoBRA Battalion of the CRPF, saw a jawan injured in an IED blast. Assistant Commandant Borade, who was leading the team, stepped up to evacuate the injured jawan without any regard for his own safety. The KGH Hills are believed to be a hideout for several most-wanted Naxal leaders, and the area is densely forested and heavily laden with deadly IEDs," a CRPF official said.
Prioritising the safety of his team and displaying exceptional bravery, Borade accidentally stepped on an IED during the evacuation effort, causing severe damage to his left leg. He was immediately moved to Raipur and later airlifted to AIIMS Delhi, where his leg had to be medically amputated to prevent the spread of infection.
The operation is considered so critical that CRPF DG GP Singh is currently stationed in Chhattisgarh, personally supervising the operation on the ground.

Car loan fraud: STF Meerut busts huge racket, mastermind nabbed
The Meerut unit of UP Police Special Task Force (STF) on Wednesday arrested the mastermind of an inter-district gang that had been fraudulently financing luxury cars using fake documents and Aadhaar-linked address manipulation. The gang would then sell these vehicles at a profit without repaying the loans, defrauding banks of crores of rupees. The arrested accused, identified as Anangpal Nagar, was apprehended near Krishna Public School on Kila Parikshitgarh Road on Wednesday. The STF recovered a Toyota Fortuner worth ₹40 lakh from his possession, which had been financed fraudulently. According to STF SP Brajesh Kumar Singh, the team had been receiving inputs about a syndicate active across various banks, taking car loans using fake residential addresses—often rented houses. The gang would manipulate Aadhaar card addresses to match loan paperwork, obtain vehicle loans, and then default on repayments while secretly selling the vehicles to unsuspecting buyers. During interrogation, Nagar confessed that he used to visit multiple banks along with his associates to finance high-end vehicles. After securing the loans, they would vacate the loan-registered addresses to avoid recovery agents or legal notices. A few months later, the financed vehicles would be sold off for profit. The investigation revealed that Anangpal had even gone to the extent of creating a fake Udyam (enterprise) registration in the name of a woman friend. The bogus firm, Preeti Dairy, was registered online, using the address Flat No 601, Ansal Town, Modipuram, Meerut. To maintain a good credit score and avoid suspicion, Anangpal and his associates used fraudulent documents to open multiple bank accounts, manipulating ITRs (Income Tax Returns) and routing money transfers between accounts to create the illusion of legitimate transactions. All these accounts were opened using fake addresses. Singh stated that further inquiries are being conducted to identify and apprehend other gang members involved in the scam. The operation has exposed a well-organised network of financial fraudsters targeting the vehicle finance sector through loopholes in documentation and verification systems. Authorities have advised banks to strengthen verification protocols, especially in cases involving high-value auto loans and newly registered businesses.

Cops identify Maoist mastermind behind theft of explosives
1 2 Bhubaneswar: Odisha police have identified Anmol, a Jharkhand-based Maoist leader, as the mastermind behind the recent theft of around 5,000 kg of explosives from a stone quarry at Banko in Sundargarh district. Anmol, 45, also known as Anmol da, Samar, and Lalchand Hembram, is a state committee member (SCM) of the outlawed CPI (Maoist). He carries bounties of Rs 15 lakh in Jharkhand and Rs 20 lakh in Odisha. Originally from Itwabeda Jarwa village under Penk-Narayanpur police station in Jharkhand, Anmol was previously active in the Bihar-Jharkhand-Odisha regional committee. Until 2018-19, he coordinated Maoist operations in Sambalpur-Deogarh-Sundargarh division of Odisha and led several attacks on security forces along the Odisha-Jharkhand axis. His knowledge of Naxal operations in Odisha and tactical proficiency facilitated the bold theft at the stone quarry in Banko, under K Balang police limits in Rourkela on May 27. The location's proximity to Jharkhand's Saranda forest, with its thick vegetation and challenging terrain, offered suitable cover for Anmol and his associates. "We have identified those Maoists involved in the explosives loot. "Of the approximately 5 tonnes of gelatin sticks stolen, 3.8 tonnes have been retrieved. All credit goes to the personnel engaged in the massive joint search operation, which is still continuing. We aim to make complete recovery," Khurania said. The DGP acknowledged that the Sundargarh Naxal incident revealed areas for improvement. "We came across some learning points. We are reviewing standard operating procedures for explosive transport, storage in Naxal-affected areas, and compliance verification. Corrective and remedial measures would be implemented," Khurania said. He said police have begun inspecting firms involved in explosive trade in the state, particularly in Maoist-affected regions. Odisha police said they would not suggest to the ministry of home affairs (MHA) to reinstate Sundargarh under the Centre's security-related expenditure (SRE) scheme for Naxal-affected districts. Sundargarh was excluded from the SRE scheme after being removed from the left-wing extremism (LWE) affected areas list last year. The top cop reported a significant reduction in Naxal operations in Odisha, expressing confidence that law enforcement will successfully support the Centre's objective of establishing a 'Maoist-free India' by March 2026.
