PM Modis Muslim Sister Prepares Om, Lord Ganesha Rakhis, Awaits PMO Invitation
Qamar Mohsin Sheikh says she makes the rakhis herself every year and selects the one she likes the most to tie on Modi's wrist. She recalls knowing Modi since the time he was a worker in the RSS. Once, when Modi asked her how she was doing and addressed her as 'sister,' she began tying him rakhi from that moment onward.
Kamar shares that she once prayed for Modi to become the Chief Minister of Gujarat, and he smiled in response. When that wish came true, she later wished for him to become the Prime Minister of India and bring glory to the country.
She says her sisterly prayers have now come true for the third time. Though she couldn't travel to Delhi last year, she hopes to receive an invitation from the PMO this year and celebrate Raksha Bandhan by tying rakhi to the Prime Minister.
Who Is Qamar Mohsin Sheikh?
Born into a Muslim family in Karachi, Sheikh moved to Ahmedabad after marrying Mohsin Sheikh in 1981. She first met Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his time as a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). She recalled their first meeting in 1990 at the airport, where she was accompanied by Dr. Swaroop Singh, then the Governor of Gujarat.

Raksha Bandhan will be celebrated on Saturday, August 9, 2025. According to the Hindu lunar calendar, Rakhi falls on the Purnima (Full Moon Day) of the Shravan month.

Tech to play major role in India's future progress: Ram Madhav

He has also listed out India's emerging role in the evolving balance of power within the global system. Prof MP Gupta, director, IIM Lucknow, unveiled the book. Addressing a gathering on the occasion, Madhav said: 'Artificial intelligence (AI) is crossing all boundaries today. Technology is overtaking the existence of humans. It will play a major role in the overall development and progress of a nation.' 'However, are we catching up with the technology,' Madhav asked the audience as he stressed the need for more research and development work. Further emphasising the importance of technology, he also talked about the recent India-Pakistan conflict. 'In this war, soldiers from both the sides never saw one another. The entire war was driven by technology,' the RSS leader said. Stressing the importance of R&D, he said: 'For India to become a Vishwa Guru, we need more R&D. However, carrying it out is not the sole responsibility of the government. We need to work on the ground. The R&D is the need of the hour.' 'No doubt the Centre is doing a lot to promote R&D, but the government alone cannot do everything. Companies must also come forward and contribute in the research work,' Madhav added. He also commented on companies having market capitalisation of several lakh crores but their expenditure on R&D was only few thousand crores. Commenting on the trade tariff imposed by the US President Donald Trump on India, the RSS leader pointed out that Trump's form of nationalism was here to stay and would increase in future. Talking about Trump's slogan MAGA (Make America Great Again), Madhav said: 'Now, every country will try to protect its interests first. India has to be ready for this change.' To drive home this point, he also pointed out that some European countries rejected European Union's directives to take immigrants as refugees. On the occasion, the RSS leader also applauded chief minister Yogi Adityanath's decision to carry out large scale upgradation of Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) across the state by roping in the industry giant Tata.

Muzhappilangad Sooraj murder case: Kerala HC suspends life term awarded to fifth accused
Kochi: High court has suspended the life sentence imposed on P M Manoraj of Koothuparamba in Kannur, the fifth accused in the Muzhappilangad Sooraj murder case, and granted him bail. The bench of Justices V Raja Vijayaraghavan and K V Jayakumar was considering an appeal filed by Manoraj, challenging the conviction and sentence imposed on him by the Thalassery sessions court. Sooraj, a BJP/RSS worker, was allegedly murdered by CPM party workers on Aug 5, 2005, at FCI Junction at Muzhappilangad, reportedly due to political animosity. In March 2025, the sessions court convicted and sentenced all seven accused in the case, including Manoraj. In his petition, Manoraj alleged that he was arrayed as an accused only after a delay of six years from the date of the incident, and that too solely on the basis of a confession made by a co-accused while in police custody. His counsel pointed out that the final report filed in 2005 did not include Manoraj as an accused. It was also pointed out that the first-time identification of Manoraj occurred in court nearly 19 years after the incident and this casts doubt on the reliability of the prosecution's version regarding his involvement. On a preliminary examination of the case, HC held that while it was premature to reach a conclusive finding on the petitioner's claim of innocence, Manoraj had made out an arguable case warranting consideration. Accordingly, the bench suspended the sentence and granted bail, on the condition that he execute a bond for Rs 1 lakh, along with two solvent sureties each for the like amount.

NSUI demands student union polls: Rajasthan Congress leaders face water cannons, over 30 detained
National Students' Union of India (NSUI) workers and senior Congress leaders, including AICC general secretary Sachin Pilot, on Monday staged a protest in Jaipur demanding the immediate restoration of student union elections. The Rajasthan Police used water cannons to disperse the protesters when, after a demonstration, tried to breach police barricades to march towards the chief minister's residence in Civil Lines area. A mild scuffle broke out between the police and NSUI workers, after which over 30 party leaders and workers, including Ladnun MLA Mukesh Bhakar and NSUI state president Vinod Jakhar, were detained. Speaking to the media after the protest, Pilot accused the BJP government in the state led by Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma of deliberately delaying various elections, including panchayat and urban body polls. He said the state government was working in a dictatorial manner, taking inspiration from Delhi. 'This is a double-engine government that is doing nothing. When elections arrive, they raise issues of Hindu-Muslim, temple-mosque and try to polarise voters. If people continue to vote based on religion and caste, this will happen,' he said. 'They are scared to lose, hence they are adopting tactics to crush the voice of students,' he said. Pilot claimed that students across the state are seeking elections and criticised the BJP for having 'no valid reason' to halt the process. Responding to the allegations, Deputy CM Prem Chand Bairwa said it was the previous Congress government under Ashok Gehlot that had stopped the student union elections. Students should be questioning Ashok Gehlot about why elections weren't held during his tenure. We are committed to the welfare of students,' Bairwa stated.
