PM Anwar to deliver Special Address at Shangri-La Dialogue
SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will undertake a one-day working visit to Singapore on Saturday to participate in the 22nd Shangri-La Dialogue.
According to the Malaysian Foreign Ministry, Anwar's invitation to the forum—held during Malaysia's ASEAN chairmanship this year—reflects international recognition of the country's leadership in promoting regional peace and security.
'The dialogue is an international annual event, serving as platform for leaders and officials to discuss regional and global security challenges,' the ministry said in a statement on Friday.
Anwar will deliver the Special Address at the Shangri-La Dialogue, organised by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS).
In addition to addressing the region's premier defence summit, Anwar will hold a bilateral meeting with his Singaporean counterpart, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.
Both leaders are expected to review the state of Malaysia-Singapore relations and exchange views on regional and global developments of mutual interest.
The Prime Minister is also scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
In 2024, Singapore was Malaysia's second-largest trading partner globally and the largest within ASEAN.
Bilateral trade increased by 8.9 per cent to RM396.22 billion (US$86.69 billion), representing 13.8 per cent of Malaysia's total trade.
Malaysia's exports to Singapore were valued at RM230.86 billion (US$50.53 billion), while imports from Singapore reached RM143.73 billion (US$31.45 billion).
The ministry said that as close neighbours and key ASEAN partners, Malaysia and Singapore enjoy robust and multi-faceted cooperation.
This year also marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Capital A CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes KUALA LUMPUR: Capital A Bhd remains optimistic about its 2025 prospects and is committed to delivering strong operational and financial performance to ensure sustainable returns for shareholders. Chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said the group is in the final stretch of its restructuring journey and is not just surviving but charging ahead. 'The High Court has approved our capital reduction, shareholders have backed it unanimously, we are confident to say the tunnel is behind us. Now it's full throttle ahead,' he said in a statement. Fernandes said the group has set 'ambitious but realistic internal targets for 2025' and confirmed it remains on track. 'Aviation is gaining momentum, Capital A businesses are outperforming expectations—particularly Teleport and Santan, gearing up for a stronger second quarter,' he said. He added that BigPay remains focused on a path toward profitability, targeting breakeven in the later part of the year by leveraging the AirAsia ecosystem and key partnerships. 'With Board approval secured, Capital A will now actively explore a dual listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange to supercharge our next growth chapter and broaden access to global capital markets. We anticipate providing further updates as developments unfold,' Fernandes said. In the first quarter ended March 31 (1Q25), Capital A posted a net profit of RM689.6mil, or earnings per share of 15.90, compared with a net loss of RM91.5mil, or loss per share of 2.20 in the year-ago quarter. Revenue for the quarter rose 15.2% to RM414.5mil against RM359.8mil last year. Fernandes said plans are taking shape for the brand company, Abc., to further grow its existing brands, expand its portfolio through acquiring strong Asean brands, and provide consultancy services to international brands seeking to enter the region. 'With our more than two decades of brand-building experience in Asean, we believe there is a lot of value to be unlocked, the only way we know how. We plan to revisit the opportunity to list Abc. on Nasdaq. 'I'm confident 2025 will be a defining year for Capital A.' Meanwhile, Capital A is now close to finalising a RM1bil private placement. However, it must first secure consent from two remaining aircraft lessors and obtain clearance from Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the latter of which has experienced delays. 'As a result, the overall timeline is expected to shift, with completion now targeted by 3Q25,' it said.

PM Anwar: Malaysia invites Myanmar conflict groups for dialogue in Kuala Lumpur
SINGAPORE — Malaysia has taken the initiative to invite different groups in the Myanmar conflict for a dialogue in Kuala Lumpur in a bid to find a lasting solution to the ongoing crisis, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today. He said the invitation was extended to the groups last month. 'I've started…and I urge my counterparts to send their teams, officials and military personnel intelligence to continue to engage,' he said during a question-and-answer session following his Special Address at the Shangri-La Dialogue, here. When asked about the possibility of elections in Myanmar, Anwar said the immediate priority is to ensure peace, security, and the delivery of humanitarian aid. He noted that ASEAN leaders have continued to push for an extended ceasefire and the protection of all humanitarian aid workers. 'If the elections are fair and more inclusive and do not exclude parties, then of course, we are ready to accept, although (the process) may not be perfect,' he added. Myanmar's State Administration Council (SAC), in March, announced that they will hold a general election either in December this year or January 2026 at the latest, according to international media reports. — BERNAMA
