Mekhi Becton back at practice for Chargers

NBC Sports3 hours ago
There was a positive development for the Chargers offensive line on Tuesday.
Reporters at the team's practice shared images of right guard Mekhi Becton in uniform and on the field with his teammates. Becton had missed the last several weeks of practice with an undisclosed injury and there was little indication from the team's coaches about when he'd back.
The timing of Becton's return bodes well for the likelihood that he'll be in the lineup in Brazil against the Chiefs on the first Friday of the regular season. The Chargers signed Becton to a two-year contract after he started for the Eagles in their Super Bowl win over Kansas City.
Assuming Becton is good to go, the only change to the Chargers' desired starting line will be the absence of left tackle Rashawn Slater. Slater is out for the season with a knee injury, so Joe Alt is moving over from right tackle and Trey Pipkins is in line to start next to Becton.

Xavier Worthy reacts to Taylor Swift's viral NFL draft reaction: 'That's crazy'

Taylor Swift, NFL draft scout? While most of the attention surrounding Swift's appearance on the "New Heights" podcast was focused on her relationship with Travis Kelce, the pop star also pointed out her excitement during the 2024 NFL Draft. Specifically, Swift detailed her elation about the Kansas City Chiefs' selection of Xavier Worthy with the 28th overall pick. On Tuesday, Worthy responded to the viral clip. "That's crazy," Worthy said. "I ain't gonna lie, she's the biggest pop star in this generation so it's crazy to have somebody running around the house screaming, 'We drafted you!'" The pick was only made possible after the Chiefs traded up with the Buffalo Bills, which became cause for celebration in the Swift residence. "I became like a person who was running through the halls of my house screaming, 'We drafted Xavier Worthy,'" Swift said. Kelce was a non-believer at first, saying that he wasn't sure if Swift had the right information. "I forget where I was, but you were the first person to tell me that we drafted the fastest man in the draft," Kelce said. Chiefs fans were given many reasons to be happy about the selection and their newest superfan wasted no time joining the crowd. "I was freaking out," Swift added. Worthy certainly proved to be a solid addition to the Kansas City offense in his rookie year, totaling 742 scrimmage yards and nine touchdowns on 79 touches – also proving to be someone that rose to the occasion in the postseason. Heading into his second season, the former Texas star will look to build off an impressive rookie year. Turns out, he'll be doing it with one of the world's biggest celebrities in his corner.

Mike Macdonald took the Seahawks on a team-bonding trip to Topgolf

Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald cancelled practice on Monday to take the squad on a team-bonding trip to Topgolf before a busy final week of preseason. The News Tribune's Gregg Bell published a story before practice Tuesday detailing Macdonald's leadership strategies. He mentions that they had a mandatory off-day Saturday before a high-intensity Sunday morning practice. This weekend planning was designed to prepare for their first early kickoff of the season when they visit the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 2. Macdonald is building toward the regular season by training the Seahawks to flip the switch on and off when necessary. Football is the only sport that you practice 6 times as much as you play- and you must be able to exert effort mentally, physically and spiritually at a controlled pace to maximize your explosiveness in short windows. The 90-man roster of ballplayers and athletes get to gel as humans while resting on the football front for one day, before they get on a plane to Green Bay to face the Packers in a joint practice and preseason game. As starters and backups prepare to go to war during the season and reserves fight for roles and roster spots, the Seahawks' team-bonding trip on Monday is an example of the current coaching staff working the team smarter instead of harder. And when the physicality is on display as it was in Friday's win over the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, it leaves little doubt that Seattle's pads are warmed up and ready to pop hard against the 49ers in 19 days as well.

Coming off another loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the postseason, Buffalo is gearing up to take another shot at the kings of the AFC. Many media personalities, including Fox Sports' Colin Cowherd, think highly of the Bills heading into the season opener. CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - AUGUST 17: Josh Allen #17 of the Buffalo Bills looks on prior to the NFL Preseason 2025 game between Buffalo Bills and Chicago Bears at Soldier Field on August 17, 2025 in Chicago, Illinois. MoreCowherd released his final "Herd Hierarchy," power rankings before the season begins and Buffalo found themselves at No. 2, trailing only the reigning Super Bowl-champion Philadelphia Eagles. "I think the world's best football player is Josh Allen, so I'll put Buffalo at two," Cowherd said. "Buffalo and their division, should go 2-0 against Miami and 2-0 against the Jets. I think their quarterback is able to extend plays and elevate teammates like no one else in the league can do." Cowherd shares the same sentiment as many other media personalities and outlets, as nearly all of them have Buffalo ranked somewhere in the 1-5 range in power rankings. The world will get a good look at Buffalo in Week 1, as it will welcome in the Baltimore Ravens for what has the potential to be one of the best games of the entire season. The two teams met in Week 4 last season and that game was the worst loss of the season for the Bills. They were boat-raced 35-10 by Baltimore on Sunday Night Football. Buffalo eventually got its revenge with a 27-25 victory in the postseason. It's always a fun time when the two teams meet up and Week 1 will tell us a lot about both teams and the directions they are headed this season.
