Production Crew invests in Ikegami UHK-X700 cameras for new OB truck

Broadcast Pro13-02-2025
UHK-X700 cameras are 3840 x 2160 RGB UHD-native and designed for use in pedestal or tripod mounted studio and OB applications as well as fully mobile electronic field production and newsgathering.
Production Crew, a division of Riyadh-based AFLAM Productions, has upgraded its broadcast capabilities with the acquisition of 12 Ikegami UHK-X700 UNICAM-XE 4K-UHD camera systems. These cameras will be integrated into the company's newly designed 12G-SDI outside broadcast (OB) truck, ensuring high-quality 4K-UHD HDR production for live events. Each system includes the camera head, a 7-inch LCD viewfinder, BSX-100 base station, OCP-300 operation control panel and a T-430 tripod mounting plate.
The OB truck, designed and built by Dubai-based El Baba Smart Technology, is fully equipped to handle large-scale outdoor events at full broadcast quality.
Shady Mokdad, executive director of AFLAM Productions and managing director of Production Crew, said: 'We have been using HDK-73 cameras in our studios for many years and are very pleased with their performance and reliability as well as the technical support provided by Ikegami. Our aim in choosing UHK-X700 cameras is to bridge the quality gap between broadcast and digital film.
'Pre-purchase tests confirmed the excellence of the UHK-X700 cameras in terms of optical and electronic performance, thanks in good measure to their three 2/3-inch CMOS 4K sensors which incorporate a global shutter to provide freedom from rolling-shutter distortion and flash-banding artifacts.
'From an electronics perspective, each UHK-X700 supports a wide range of high-grade video processing functions, including high dynamic range and wide colour gamut as well as 16-axis colour correction, within a space-efficient and power-efficient ASIC.
'The cameras inherit the robust build quality that we associate with Ikegami products, allowing confident operation outdoors as well as in studio environments. The UHK-X700 also includes features necessary to sustain our reputation for creative excellence, such as optical vignetting correction, remote back focus adjustment, plus viewfinder-based focus-assist, safe-area markers and filter settings.'
Mokdad added: 'Ease of operation is another major feature, especially important in today's world of multiple transmission formats and modes of delivery. The new vehicle is cabled to accommodate up to 16 camera systems if we need to expand our workflow.'
Asim Saeed, Business Development Manager, Ikegami, commented: 'We are very pleased to be chosen as a technology partner in this high-profile project. 4K-UHD continues to increase in popularity as the logical mastering format for productions with a potentially long commercial lifetime. The UHK-X700/BSX-100 combination chosen by AFLAM's Production Crew team allows cameras to be securely linked up to 3 kilometres from their operating location, including the power to the camera head. Simultaneous output in HD SDR and UHD HDR video formats is supported, including mixed sources. 4K-UHD video is available as a 12G-SDI feed directly from the camera head, enabling the UHK-X700 to be integrated into a wireless system.'
The UHK-X700 cameras, designed for studio, OB and electronic field production, feature a low centre of gravity for seamless operation on pedestals, tripods, or shoulder mounts. They also offer high frame-rate capture, supporting 2x speed in 4K and up to 8x speed in HD for slow-motion coverage of live events.
The Ikegami OCP-300 controller enhances workflow efficiency, providing touchscreen LCD controls, rotary encoders, and PoE (Power over Ethernet) support. Its memory card slot enables quick and seamless camera setup, ensuring a streamlined production process.

Platinumlist rebrands to connect closer with community of 9 million+ MENA users

Platinumlist, an entertainment and events discovery and cultural platform in the Middle East, has revealed details about the comprehensive rebrand of its platform in line with the company's global expansion plans as well as the demands of the booming events industry in the MENA region. The objective of the rebrand – which repositions Platinumlist as a cultural portal rather than just a ticketing platform – was to reflect the diversity and international scale of Platinumlist's offerings, address its fragmented brand identity, improve brand recognition, and create a more streamlined experience for both users and B2B partners. 'The decision to rebrand the platform was driven by several factors, including the company's expansion across the globe,' said Cosmin Ivan, CEO at Platinumlist. 'This growth presented challenges, as the previous brand identity no longer fully reflected the global and diverse nature of the company's offerings. The prior design was fragmented across different products, which sometimes made brand recognition more challenging for users and B2B partners,' Ivan added. Goals and rollout of the Platinumlist rebrand The rebrand's short-term goals include improving user experience (UX), launching a unified design system, enabling faster and more consistent communication, introducing dark mode and creating a more expressive brand tone. It's mid-term goals include scaling the new design system across multiple languages and markets, redesigning the app, launching a membership programme and digital wallet, as well as expanding into new markets. In a statement shared with Campaign Middle East, Ivan said, 'We have a large and loyal audience, and the main purpose of our rebrand is not to 'capture' markets, but to better reflect and connect with our existing community. As the market leader, we're not aiming to take market share through heavy TV or radio spending.' He added, 'Our focus is primarily on our owned channels — CRM, social media, PR, and other direct communications — supported by a small mix of digital activity. We believe these channels allow us to engage our audience more personally and efficiently, without over-investing in high-cost media such as TV.' Since its founding in 2009, Platinumlist has expanded from a single event type to successfully ticketing more than 100,000 events with 20 diverse categories in nine markets in the GCC and MENA and around the world. The redesigned platform takes cognizance of this expansion and intends to make the discovery and booking of tickets much quicker and more convenient. Stakeholders involved in the rebrand As such, the fresh visual identity – centred around the concept of a 'portal' – created in partnership with design studio Kidults, represents the platform as an entry point to new experiences and emotions. A significant aspect of the redesign is its focus on regional and cultural inclusivity. Platinumlist collaborated with UAE and Saudi-based type designers to develop a new Arabic typographic system and an adapted logo that aligns with the Latin version, creating a flexible and regionally inclusive design system. In line with the rebrand's objectives, the redesigned interface features a cleaner, bolder visual system, improved UX patterns, and dark mode is currently in development to further enhance user experience in various lighting conditions, such as at concerts or cinemas. 'Platinumlist came to us with a bold ambition – to go beyond selling tickets and become a true cultural portal,' said Mike Shishkin, Creative Director at Kidults. 'It wasn't just about a new look, but about rethinking the brand's role, story, and the entire product experience. We worked closely with the Platinumlist on brand strategy, visual identity, UI and content tools. And we're proud to be a part of transforming ticket sales into inspiration,' Shishkin added. The redesign is part of a shift that includes the rollout of a unified design system across all brand materials. This in intended to ensure faster delivery, better consistency and a more human and expressive tone in all communications. The company has also integrated user feedback tools into its process to drive more research-informed product development. The success of the rebrand will be measured through brand perception surveys and polls with Platinumlist audiences. The brand is also rolling out a series of product and tech updates alongside the rebrand, aiming to improve the user experience and, ultimately, increase its conversion rate, which will also be measured. GCC's Asset-Management Sector Hits $2.2 Trillion

With market performance as the primary engine of that growth, rather than new investor inflows, the region remains somewhat exposed to fluctuations in global financial markets. Saudi Arabia and the UAE were the principal drivers behind retail mutual fund expansion, while the largest volumes of sovereign wealth fund assets were held in Kuwait and Abu Dhabi. Lukasz Rey, managing director and partner and Middle East head of financial institutions at BCG, commented that the 9 per cent growth underscores the GCC's emergence as a capital hub, and he emphasised that asset managers who embrace innovation rather than simply endure headwinds will lead into the next decade. Mohammad Khan, also managing director and partner at BCG, highlighted the region's resilience and strategic shift toward innovation and operational excellence, positioning GCC-based asset managers to contend with global giants. ADVERTISEMENT Despite the solid headline growth, the report flags persistent industry concerns: fee compression, shifting investor preferences—particularly a move toward passive products—and rapid digital disruption, all of which are forcing firms to rethink business models, accelerate digitisation and cost innovation, and hone strategic priorities. Globally, asset managers also enjoyed growth, with worldwide assets under management climbing to a record $128 trillion in 2024, a 12 per cent rise from the preceding year, as noted by BCG's Global Asset Management Report 2025. Market performance was responsible for approximately 70 per cent of the global revenue increase, underscoring the industry's sensitivity to external economic conditions. Within that broader context, the GCC's performance marks it as a region of growing strategic importance. Retail mutual funds in Saudi Arabia and the UAE are gaining ground, while sovereign wealth funds in Abu Dhabi and Kuwait remain among the region's largest institutional investors. For example, forecasts suggest that GCC sovereign wealth funds may collectively manage up to $7.3 trillion by 2030, a trend driven by increasing diversification and deployment of global capital.
