NYT ‘Strands' Hints For Thursday, June 19: Spangram And Answers For Today's Game
Today's NYT Strands hints and answers.
Before today's Strands hints, spangram and answers, here are Wednesday's:
Hey, folks! Today's NYT Strands hints, spangram and answers for Thursday, June 189are coming right up.
The New York Times' Strands puzzle is a play on the classic word search. It's available on the NYT website and in the NYT Games app alongside the likes of Wordle and Connections (which we also cover in daily guides at Forbes Gaming).
There's a new game of Strands to play every day. The game will present you with a six by eight grid of letters. The aim is to find a group of words that have something in common, and you'll get a clue as to what that theme is. When you find a theme word, it will remain highlighted in blue.
You'll also need to find a special word called a spangram. This tells you what the words have in common. The spangram links at least two sides of the board, but it may not start or end there. While the theme words will not be a proper name, the spangram can be a proper name. When you find the spangram, it will remain highlighted in yellow.
Every letter is used once in one of the theme words and spangram. You can connect letters vertically, horizontally and diagonally, and it's possible to switch directions in the middle of a word. If you're playing on a touchscreen, double tap the last letter to submit your guess.
If you find three valid words of at least four letters that are not part of the theme, you'll unlock the Hint button. Clicking this will highlight the letters that make up one of the theme words.
Be warned: You'll need to be on your toes. Sometimes you'll need to fill the missing word(s) in a phrase. On other days, the game may revolve around synonyms or homophones. The difficulty will vary from day to day, and the puzzle creators will try to surprise you sometimes.
Scroll slowly! Just after the hint for today's Strands puzzle, I'll reveal what the answer words are.
The official theme hint for today's Strands puzzle is...
Life is a highway
Need some extra help? Here's another hint...
Aspects of a long journey
There are seven theme words to find today, including the spangram.
Spoiler alert! Don't scroll any further down the page until you're ready to find out today's Strands hints.
Here are the first two letters of every theme word in today's puzzle. They're ordered from left to right, then top to bottom by any letter of the word appearing for the first time:
Before I reveal the other the full word list, I'll first tell you the spangram and show you where that is on the grid.
This is your final spoiler warning!
Today's Strands spangram is...
ROAD TRIP
Here's where you'll find it on the grid…

Today's Strands theme words are...
Here's what the completed grid looks like...
Completed NYT Strands grid for June 19, including the words MOTEL, ROAD TRIP, AUDIOBOOK, PLAYLIST, ... More PHOTOS, SCENERY and GAMES.
My first hunch was that we'd have a group of classic rock songs, in the vein of "Life Is A Highway" by Tom Cochrane. But nope, I stumbled into MOTEL as I was looking for a hint and realized what might have been going on here. I found the spangram then GAMES next, and it was all straightforward from there.
I used no hints and the spangram was the second theme word I found.
See you tomorrow for more Strands fun!

Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders say they're getting a 400% increase in pay
FRISCO, Texas (AP) — The Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders say they are getting a serious increase in pay. One of the cheerleaders has said during the second season of the Netflix series 'America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders' that the members are getting a 400% boost in pay. Advertisement The cheerleaders have been pushing for pay increases for years. In 2019, the Cowboys settled a lawsuit with a former cheerleader that led to the squad doubling the per-game pay, from $200 to $400. The latest raise is four times that. 'Our efforts were heard and they wanted to give us a raise,' four-year veteran Megan McElaney said on the show. 'And we ended up getting a 400% increase, which is like, life-changing.' According to ESPN, the Cowboys agreed to pay four cheerleaders a total of $2.4 million nine years ago to settle claims by the women that the team's longtime public relations chief, Rich Dalrymple, filmed them in the dressing room. Dalrymple denied the claims, and the club said its investigation found no wrongdoing by him. Dalrymple retired not long before the settlement became public in 2022. Advertisement The Cowboys have been the most valuable pro sports team in the world for almost a decade, according to Forbes magazine. That number was $10.1 billion in rankings published late last year. "Happy' isn't even the right word for it,' former cheerleader Jada McLean said on the show. 'I think I was just ... kind of felt, like, a relief, like everything had paid off. And it was, you know, finally, we were done fighting.' ___ AP NFL:

Cher's troubled son Elijah Blue Allman remains in hospital after drug overdose scare
Cher's son Elijah Blue Allman is recovering in hospital after an apparent drug overdose. Police were dispatched to his home in Landers, California, on Jube 14, after receiving a call that there was a man there who was 'acting erratically'. When they arrived they found Elijah being examined by emergency medical personnel. 'Deputies located drugs inside the home and Allman was transported to the hospital,' a police statement said. 'The investigation is ongoing,' Five days after his hospitalisation there still hadn't been any update on the 48-year-old's condition. However, a source close to Cher shared that the mother of two is 'doing everything she can to help her son and help him get well.' This incident comes two months after Elijah's estranged wife, musician Marieangela King (37), professionally known as Queenie, filed for divorce for the second time – putting an end to their 12-year marriage. Elijah, who is also known by his stage name P Exeter Blue and plays guitar in the rock band Deadsy, was spotted last month in Hollywood looking very disoriented. In disturbing footage, he was seen standing around outside a hotel with a torn grey t-shirt, low-hanging shorts and slip-on shoes. The musician was holding what looked like a lit cigarette and was sweating profusely as cars passed him. His ankles appeared swollen and he had a few cuts on his leg. Elijah has always been open about his drug use and has often spoken about it. READ MORE | Brad and Angie's dance-loving daughter is forging her own path with support from close friend Keoni 'I started with drugs around the same time that we all did, around 11,' he said back in 2014. 'I mean, it's just what you did, it's just what everybody did.' He also shared that he had some close calls with overdosing. 'I always kind of kept it a little bit safe but you never can do that,' he said. 'Even though you think that in your mind, of course, the wrong things can happen. The wrong combination of things can happen, and you can just slip into the abyss.' PHOTO: Gallo Image/Getty Image Towards the end of 2023, Elijah and Cher made headlines after she filed for conservatorship of her son's affairs. The Believe singer said in the court papers that Elijah made $120 000 (R2,2 million) a year on his own and also had access to a trust fund created by his late father, singer Gregg Allman. Cher, who also has a son, Chaz Bono (56), from her first marriage to Sonny Bono, said she was concerned Elijah would use all his money to buy drugs. At the time, Elijah acknowledged his struggles 'with addiction' and that he 'spent money in ways that have not always been the most responsible'. However, he added that he was under the care of a doctor and was attending AA meetings. 'I recently passed a drug test and am willing to submit to future drug tests,' he said. 'I am clean and sober from illicit substances for over 90 days now and am fully capable of and committed to managing the money I receive quarterly from the trust left by my late father.' The Strong Enough singer withdrew her conservatorship request after a nine-month court battle. Cher has always described their relationship as 'bizarre'. 'We've had so many strange moments. I don't really understand him,' she said. 'Somehow Elijah and I kind of talk through osmosis. His mind is very expansive. He just dances to his own tune and doesn't really care.' Marieangela released a statement in support of her ex-husband, who remains hospitalised. 'While it is true that Elijah has faced personal challenges in the past, one constant has been his unwavering commitment to sobriety and his loyalty to those he loves,' she said. 'Like many, he continues to confront his inner struggles – but it is important to recognise that he does so from a place of strength, not defeat.' The singer says that even though she isn't married to Elijah anymore, she will continue to root for him. 'Despite the assumptions that often colour how his journey is portrayed, the reality is that Elijah remains grounded, focused and deeply committed to living with integrity and purpose.'

Midjourney launches its first AI video generation model, V1
Midjourney, one of the most popular AI image generation startups, announced on Wednesday the launch of its much-anticipated AI video generation model, V1. V1 is an image-to-video model, in which users can upload an image — or take an image generated by one of Midjourney's other models — and V1 will produce a set of four five-second videos based on it. Much like Midjourney's image models, V1 is only available through Discord, and it's only available on the web at launch. Introducing our V1 Video Model. It's fun, easy, and beautiful. Available at 10$/month, it's the first video model for *everyone* and it's available now. — Midjourney (@midjourney) June 18, 2025 The launch of V1 puts Midjourney in competition with AI video generation models from other companies, such as OpenAI's Sora, Runway's Gen 4, Adobe's Firefly, and Google's Veo 3. While many companies are focused on developing controllable AI video models for use in commercial settings, Midjourney has always stood out for its distinctive AI image models that cater to creative types. The company says it has larger goals for its AI video models than generating B-roll for Hollywood films or commercials for the ad industry. In a blog post, Midjourney CEO David Holz says its AI video model is the company's next step towards its ultimate destination, creating AI models 'capable of real-time open-world simulations.' After AI video models, Midjourney says it plans to develop AI models for producing 3D renderings, as well as real-time AI models. The launch of Midjourney's V1 model comes just a week after the startup was sued by two of Hollywood's most notorious film studios: Disney and Universal. The suit alleges that images created by Midjourney's AI image models depict the studio's copyrighted characters, like Homer Simpson and Darth Vader. Hollywood studios have struggled to confront the rising popularity of AI image and video-generating models, such as the ones Midjourney develops. There's a growing fear that these AI tools could replace or devalue the work of creatives in their respective fields, and several media companies have alleged that these products are trained on their copyrighted works. Boston, MA | REGISTER NOW While Midjourney has tried to pitch itself as different from other AI image and video startups — more focused on creativity than immediate commercial applications — the startup can not escape these accusations. To start, Midjourney says it will charge 8x more for a video generation than a typical image generation, meaning subscribers will run out of their monthly allotted generations significantly faster when creating videos than images. At launch, the cheapest way to try out V1 is by subscribing to Midjourney's $10-per-month Basic plan. Subscribers to Midjourney's $60-a-month Pro plan and $120-a-month Mega plan will have unlimited video generations in the company's slower, 'Relax' mode. Over the next month, Midjourney says it will reassess its pricing for video models. midjourney introduces video generation and it's surpassing all my expectations. — Phi Hoang (@apostraphi) June 18, 2025 V1 comes with a few custom settings that allow users to control the video model's outputs. Users can select an automatic animation setting to make an image move randomly, or they can select a manual setting that allows users to describe, in text, a specific animation they want to add to their video. Users can also toggle the amount of camera and subject movement by selecting 'low motion' or 'high motion' in settings. While the videos generated with V1 are only five seconds long, users can choose to extend them by four seconds up to four times, meaning that V1 videos could get as long as 21 seconds. Much like Midjourney's AI image models, early demos of V1's videos look somewhat otherworldly, rather than hyperrealistic. The initial response to V1 has been positive, though it's still unclear how well it matches up against other leading AI video models, which have been on the market for months or even years.
