Team Liquid PH outlasts Onic Indonesia in thriller to reach MSC knockout stage

GMA Network26-07-2025
In a clash of champions, Team Liquid Philippines flipped the script on Onic Indonesia by pulling off a 2-1 reverse sweep win in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Mid-Season Cup 2025 on Friday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The Cavalry, the reigning MPL Philippines champions, overcame a Game 1 collapse with stunning fightbacks in the next two games to advance to the knockout stage.
Onic Indonesia, meanwhile, dropped to lower bracket semifinals of Group A where a loss means elimination and a win qualifies them to the next round.
"Before we started the game, I was actually telling them that no matter what happens, just play the game and you don't need to prove who you are," Team Liquid head coach Rodel "Ar Sy" Cruz said.
Team Liquid surged to an early lead in Game 1, building a 17–11 kill spread as jungler Karl "KarlTzy" Nepomuceno (Yi Sun-shin) secured the fourth Lord at the 23:14 mark.
But just when it seemed the game was slipping away, the Indonesian champions Onic mounted a defense anchored by Filipino import Kairi "Kairi" Rayosdelsol on Aamon, who turned the tide with a crucial double kill.
Kairi and the rest of Onic then marched down the middle lane during the final push to draw first blood in the best-of-three affair.
In Game 2, the exact opposite happened after Onic surged to an early 10-4 cushion, but Team Liquid stayed patient behind the tandem of KarlTzy (Lancelot) and gold laner Kiel "Oheb" Soriano (Moskov).
Oheb landed a pinpoint Spear of Destruction at the 9:50 mark, triggering a massive Lord steal that swung momentum in Liquid's way. Moments later, another well-timed ultimate from him paved the way for a crucial pick-off on two Onic players.
KarlTzy then shut down Onic's exp laner Moch Lutfi Ardianto and gold laner Clayton Adrielo Kuswanto during the last clash to complete a wipeout. His 6/2/3 KDA showing on his signature assassin hero pick earned KarlTzy the MVP honors as Team Liquid evened the series at 1-1.
Oheb, this time using Wanwan, showed the way in Game 3 clincher after unloading four kills and four assists against no death to steer Team Liquid to the playoffs.
"We lost the early game [in Game 2] but when Oheb stole the lord, it gave us momentum and hype after the lord steal," KarlTzy said.

UP Diliman bike lanes closed for UPCAT 2026

The bike lanes along the Academic Oval of the University of the Philippines (UP) campus in Diliman, Quezon City have been closed for the ongoing UP College Admissions Test (UPCAT) 2026. In a traffic advisory on Friday, the UP Office of Admissions said the closure will be implemented on Saturday, August 2, and Sunday, August 3. The move will affect not just cyclists, but joggers as well. The UPCAT 2026 is already underway, with thousands of Filipino students seeking to secure admission in the country's premiere state university. The exam has been made available for students currently enrolled in Grade 11 for the academic year 2024 to 2025 and will be a first-year college student for the academic year 2026 to 2027. According to a report by Carlo Mateo on Super Radyo dzBB, vehicular traffic along portions of Commonwealth Avenue to UP Diliman was heavy on Saturday morning. The report said many test takers arrived early on campus to avoid being late for the UPCAT. Some of them came on board motorcycle taxis in a bid to beat the traffic grind. The UP Diliman Office of the Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs earlier released its UPCAT 2026 map, indicating vehicular flow to be observed. Meanwhile at UP Los Baños, a traffic advisory has also been issued for the conduct of UPCAT 2026 in the campus this weekend. — VDV, GMA Integrated News

Team Liquid sends Onic Indonesia home to punch MSC Grand Finals ticket

Team Liquid continued its dream run in the 2025 Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Mid-Season Cup, booting Onic Indonesia with a 3-1 win in their heavyweight semifinals showdown on Friday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The Philippine bets now head to the finale showdown against no less than reigning MSC champions Selangor Red Giants (SRG) of Malaysia in a best-of-seven duel on Saturday at 7 p.m. (Manila time). It was a collective effort for the Filipinos with jungler Karl "KarlTzy" Nepomuceno (Hayabusa) and gold laner Kiel "Oheb" Soriano (Harith) both unleashing unblemished KDAs to lead the Game 1 romp. Onic kept Game 2 tight with mid laner SANZ making the most out of his Yve pick, sniping Oheb (Granger) and Jaypee "Jaypee" Dela Cruz (Hylos) during the crucial 25th-minute clash that also resulted in two more Team Liquid casualties. But even with only mid laner Alston "Sanji" Pabico left alive, Team Liquid pulled off a gutsy tower lock with the help of the Lord to secure a 2-0 series advantage for the Cavalry. Onic, though, would turn things around in Game 3 after a surprise Estes pick for Kiboy as the Indonesian champions remained alive. Sanji then took over late in Game 4 after his masterful plays on Zhuxin that led to a pivotal five-man wipeout for Onic Indonesia, steering the Philippines to yet another finals stint. "Of course, the number one is the love for the game and having fun, that's the more important thing to me right now. I'm having fun in playing, that's what keeps me motivated," KarlTzy, who has yet to capture an MSC title despite an accomplished professional career, said. "For me, I don't have anything with SRG but I wanna beat coach Arcadia." Team Liquid will now look to dethrone SRG, which earlier eliminated another Philippine representative in Onic Philippines with a nail-biting 3-2 victory. —JKC, GMA Integrated News
