Letter row in CPI(M): Kerala Minister M.B. Rajesh alleges attempts to defame him ahead of elections
He was referring to the controversy following the media leak of a purported 'confidential complaint' to the CPI(M) Polit Bureau, reportedly accusing an assemblage of party leaders from Kerala, including former Ministers, of partnering in financial shenanigans allegedly enabled by the businessman.
'This purported letter has been doing the rounds in WhatsApp for the last four years. Such documents that should be thrown into the dustbin will emerge again as the elections are a few months away,' he told mediapersons.
Asked whether the businessman was his alleged benami, the Minister said he realised the 'intent' of the query. 'You want to make it the headline. Hence I am not responding to the question,' he said.
Mr. Rajesh said similar allegations had surfaced against him ahead of the previous Assembly election as well. 'It included the allegations around the appointment of my wife [as a faculty member at the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit] and the accusation that I was aiding the accused in the Walayar case. The investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation had brought out the truth behind the Walayar case,' he said.

He further said, 'After the misuse of the ED [Enforcement Directorate], the CBI [Central Bureau of Investigation], the NIA [National Investigation Agency] and converting Governor offices into BJP offices, now if this law comes into effect, the existence of non-BJP governments will become almost impossible. Every citizen who believes in democracy, the Constitution and the rule of law should strongly oppose this Bill.' Maoists kill villager in ‘jan adalat', issue fresh threats not to spy for Bastar police
RAIPUR: A 30-year-old villager was killed by Maoists after being accused of working as police informer during a 'jan adalat' in Kanker district of Bastar division. Maoists summoned villagers to 'jan adalat' on Monday night and had assaulted another villager but set him free after warning. Maoists have put up a banner on road nearby freshly threatening people not to spy for police or local political representatives. According to police, members of the CPI (Maoist) Partapur area committee held a 'people's court' on at Binagunda village in Chhotebethiya region. During the gathering, they accused 30-year-old tribal villager Manesh Nureti of passing information to security forces and killed him in front of locals. Binaginda is the same region where 29 Maoists were killed in a fierce encounter with security forces in April last year. Police said that after the killing Maoists had also put up banners on the Sripur–Indrapur road warning of death penalty to villagers if they support police. The banners named several individuals, including panchayat sarpanch and locals alleging that they were working in collaboration with police. Maoists also named prominent cops and DRG personnel of recruiting villagers as covert operatives. Police have launched a combing operation in the affected area. Security officials said Maoists are attempting to regain ground by targeting villagers suspected of assisting security forces. Congress morale rises as Rahul leads 'Voter Adhikar Yatra'
Patna: Political observers and social scientists believe the ongoing "Voter Adhikar Yatra" across Bihar—launched to highlight alleged discrepancies in the electoral rolls—has projected Congress leader in a new political avatar. This is the first time Rahul has camped in Bihar for a fortnight, boosting the morale of Congress workers. Analysts are of the opinion that Rahul's growing presence in Bihar politics could pose a challenge to the RJD during seat-sharing talks. In the 2020 assembly elections, the Congress was allotted 70 seats but managed to win only 19. Reports suggest the RJD had earlier planned to reduce Congress's share of seats due to its performance in the last polls, but now the situation appears different. In the 2020 elections, the Left parties—comprising CPI-ML, CPI and CPI(M)—performed well, winning 16 out of the 29 seats they contested, whereas the RJD won 75 out of 144 (a strike rate of 23.11%). On the other hand, the Congress's strike rate was just 9.48%. RJD leaders declined to comment on the issue.
