Patrick Schwarzenegger under fire for his now-deleted shady tweets about Austin Butler

Express Tribune08-05-2025

The White Lotus actor Patrick Schwarzenegger is throwing his full weight behind a dream role: Patrick Bateman in Luca Guadagnino's upcoming adaptation of American Psycho.
But while he's making his campaign known across social media, some of his resurfaced tweets are coming back to haunt him.
News broke Tuesday that Patrick is 'actively campaigning' to star in the film, after online users noticed a flurry of strategic posts from the actor.
Guadagnino, known for Call Me by Your Name and Bones and All, previously clarified that his American Psycho is not a remake of the 2000 Christian Bale-led film but an original interpretation of Bret Easton Ellis's 1991 satirical horror novel.
The story, infamous for its graphic violence and controversial sexual content, follows narcissistic 1980s investment banker Patrick Bateman, who leads a double life as a serial killer. The film has a strong cult following, and any modern-day casting is sure to stir strong opinions.
As early as October, Schwarzenegger had made his ambitions known.
When the project was first announced, he shared a link to the news with the caption: 'My dream.' Then last week, when a fan tweeted: 'patrick schwarzenegger, i've found your breakout role,' he replied enthusiastically: 'I'd love nothing more ;).'
On Monday, the popular celebrity news account Pop Crave posted: ''The White Lotus' star Patrick Schwarzenegger is campaigning for lead role in 'American Psycho' remake,' amplifying the conversation.
That tweet prompted some users to unearth an old post from Patrick that many saw as hypocritical.
In December 2024, shortly after reports emerged that Austin Butler was Guadagnino's top choice for the Bateman role, Patrick tweeted: 'I love Austin Butler but he's already a star. I feel like Luca movies are perfect gateway for a new ish actor to have a breakout performance.'
The irony wasn't lost on critics, especially considering that Schwarzenegger, 31, is the son of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver, Hollywood royalty by any standard.
He been acting steadily since 2016. Though his breakout moment came with The White Lotus, many pointed out he hardly qualifies as a 'new ish' actor.
One X user shared a now-deleted post from May 2024, in which Patrick commented on Butler being considered for several major roles.
Reacting to news that Disney was eyeing Butler for a new Pirates of the Caribbean film and the live-action Hercules, Patrick tweeted: 'Cmon man share a little bit.'
So far, Patrick hasn't publicly addressed the backlash or the resurgent posts.
Meanwhile, no official casting has been announced, and Variety previously noted that while Butler was Guadagnino's top choice, the offer hadn't been finalized.

Walton Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood address feud rumours after 'The White Lotus' season 3

After The White Lotus Season 3 wrapped up, rumours of a feud between Walton Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood began circulating. Fans noticed the two stars, who played Rick and Chelsea, weren't following each other on Instagram, leading to speculation about tension between the co-stars. In a joint interview with Variety, both actors addressed the rumours head-on, clarifying there was no bad blood between them. Goggins became emotional as he expressed his deep admiration for Wood, stating, "There is no feud. I adore, I love this woman madly, and she is so important to me." Wood echoed similar sentiments, dismissing the social media focus as "irrelevant." The Instagram unfollow, Goggins explained, was part of his emotional process after filming. "I needed to begin to process saying goodbye to Rick and Chelsea," he said, revealing he needed some space after wrapping the show. Wood supported his decision, saying she understood completely. Both actors laughed off the feud rumours, with Goggins even re-following Wood on Instagram during the interview. "It's all so ridiculous," he added, emphasising their enduring friendship. They also shared a bittersweet moment, recalling a tender love scene between their characters that was cut from the final edit. Despite the rumours, it's clear that Goggins and Wood share a lasting bond, both on-screen and off, proving the reports of a feud were much ado about nothing.

BLACKPINK's Lisa to star in upcoming documentary

K-pop star Lisa, popularly recognised as a member of BLACKPINK, is exploring a new venture after her music career and acting credit in The White Lotus. As per Variety, it was announced on Thursday that the Money singer will be the subject of a documentary film from Sony Music Vision and director Sue Kim. Kim discussed her document at the Sony event, along with Baz Luhrmann and Frank Marshall, who also shared updates on their features. Kim, who was an executive producer on Apple TV+'s docuseries K-Pop Idols, said that she's been working with Lisa for a year, though no release date has been finalised. A trailer for the film was unveiled during the presentation, showing concert footage of the star performing solo and personal moments with her loved ones. Kim mentioned that after the two met up for the first time, Lisa reached out to her non-celebrity friends, asking them to appear in the documentary. "This has been such an incredible year, and I'm so lucky to have the opportunity to capture these special moments on film and share the experience with my fans," Lisa said in a statement. "Working with Sue Kim has been such a joy. We've been all around the world together and I know this is just the beginning of many more exciting things to come." The director also expressed enthusiasm in her own statement. "Following Lisa on this transformative and thrilling year has been a true honor and a cinematic gift," Kim said. "There have been so many moments on her journey that I think will surprise people and give a glimpse into her world that no one's ever seen before. I'm excited for viewers to watch the film and witness this extraordinary moment in her life." The news of the documentary comes after the release of Lisa's debut solo album, Alter Ego. Following BLACKPINK's hiatus, all four members branched out in pursuit of solo careers. The group is all set to reunite this year for a world tour. The Asia leg of their World Tour: Deadline kicks off in October, beginning with two nights at the Kaohsiung National Stadium. This will be followed by shows in Bangkok, Jakarta, Manila, and Singapore. After a two-month break, the quartet will fly to Hong Kong to close out the tour in January. Deadline will mark BLACKPINK's return to the stage as a unit after the tour for their album Born Pink in 2023. It made history as the highest-grossing tour by a girl group, recording 1.8 million fans worldwide.

'The White Lotus' creator Mike White joins 'Survivor 50'

Mike White, screenwriter and creator of HBO's The White Lotus, is set to return to Survivor for its milestone 50th season. Host Jeff Probst confirmed the news during an appearance on 'CBS Mornings,' stating, 'In between writing and directing seasons of 'White Lotus,' Mike White is back.' White previously appeared on Survivor in 2018 during its 37th season, staying for the full 39 days and finishing as runner-up. His time on the show reportedly influenced The White Lotus, the acclaimed anthology series that premiered in 2021. The show's third season, which aired this spring and featured Parker Posey, Carrie Coon and Walton Goggins, drew over six million viewers for its finale. Before Survivor, White competed twice on The Amazing Race alongside his father. He has described reality television as a source of creative inspiration. 'For me, as a writer of drama, I aspire to do what reality television already does,' he said in a 2021 interview with The New Yorker. Survivor's 50th season, scheduled to air in 2026, will include several returning contestants, such as Jenna Lewis-Dougherty from Season 1, and veteran players Cirie Fields and Ozzy Lusth. Filming is set for this summer.
