National women's league gets RM840k boost from KBS for development
Minister Hannah Yeoh stated that the funding aims to elevate the league's competitiveness, professionalism, and prestige. 'This grant focuses on three key goals: expanding grassroots to professional participation, nurturing emerging talents, and strengthening the national squad to improve FIFA rankings,' she said during the 2025 LWN launch.
Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president Datuk Mohd Joehari Mohd Ayub and women's football committee chairman Datuk Suraya Yaacob were also present.
The 2025 season features eight teams, including newcomers Young Tigress, KL Rangers FC, Kuala Lumpur FA, and MBSJ FC. Each squad is limited to two foreign players. The league began on July 12 with a 1-1 draw between Red Eagles FC and defending champions Kelana United FC. - Bernama

In making the call, Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng said the riverine town has the capacity and ability to organise international events. 'As you are all aware, Malaysia is set to host the 2027 SEA Games, with Sarawak serving as one of the co-hosts. I am hopeful that, as a co-host, Sarawak will be able to hold the volleyball event in Sibu. 'I think this is very suitable because we have already demonstrated that we have the capacity and ability to organise these international events. So, I do urge that the federal Ministry of Youth and Sports to please give Sibu a chance to organise this high-level competition – SEA Games volleyball matches in Sibu,' he said when closing the Sarawak International Volleyball Invitational at the Sibu Volleyball Indoor Stadium yesterday. According to him, Sibu is the powerhouse of volleyball in Sarawak. 'And we have a very long history; we have produced a lot of national players. We have all the resources from our government to back up for us to organise these SEA Games volleyball matches in Sibu. 'And I believe that all the people of Sibu will agree with me, we welcome this SEA Games volleyball event to be held in Sibu,' he said. Chieng commended the players for showcasing exceptional volleyball skills, which will inspire the people of Sibu, especially the younger generation, to take up the sport. He noted that the players have built a connection, forming relationships not only among themselves but also across different countries and regions. He also praised the Sarawak Volleyball Association and the Sibu Volleyball Association for successfully organising another international event. OD Esports crowned champions of Mobile Legends tournament in conjunction with HPPNK 2025
KOTA KINABALU: OD Esports emerged as champions of the 'Mobile Legends NAFAS-NEKMAT' e-sports tournament held in conjunction with the 2025 National Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen's Day (HPPNK) celebration at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here today. The Papar-based OD Esports team dominated the tournament, which began on Friday, defeating 42 other teams and taking home RM4,000 in cash, a trophy and certificates. The runners-up were Sonic The Hedgehog from Kota Kinabalu, who received RM2,000, a trophy and certificates. Stark Origin finished in third place, earning RM1,000, while Sonic Esports X came in fourth and took home RM600. Both teams also received trophies and certificates. Prizes were presented by Farmers' Organisation Authority (LPP) chairman Datuk Mahfuz Omar and Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM) chairman Muhammad Faiz Fadzil. Also present were National Farmers' Organisation (NAFAS) general manager Muhammad Faris Arriffin and National Fishermen's Association (NEKMAT) general manager Azrin Shah Ismail. Adrian Adlie Ku, 21, a member of OD Esports from Tenom, said the e-sports tournament benefited him and his four teammates by allowing them to build on their shared passion for the game. The event also saw 11 individuals walk away with attractive lucky draw prizes, including an electric scooter, a gold wafer coin and a wristwatch, while Wan Mohd Salleh Mahrawi was announced as the grand prize winner of a motorcycle.
