The Hardy Boyz have opened up about their recent run with AEW. In a new interview with Ariel Helwani, Jeff Hardy took full responsibility for the team's run not meeting expectations.
Jeff cited his personal issues and legal troubles as the main reason for their struggles. He believes those problems prevented them from getting a fair chance in the company.
Jeff Hardy Takes The Blame
Jeff Hardy was candid about his time in AEW. He feels he never had a chance to redeem himself after his arrest.
"I just don't think we ever had a fair chance because of that," Jeff said. "So I blame myself all the time."
He stated he understood why AEW might not have wanted to trust him. "I was, 'Oh, God, they can't trust me. I'm just a liability,'" he explained.
Matt Hardy On Missed Opportunities
Matt Hardy gave his perspective on the situation. He felt that his brother did a good job of proving himself after he returned.
Matt also expressed disappointment that AEW didn't capitalize on having all four "TLC legends" (himself, Jeff, Adam Copeland, and Christian Cage) in the company at the same time.

"There's just so much value in the four of us together because of our history," Matt said. "But, yeah, it didn't happen."
He spoke highly of Tony Khan as a person and a boss. However, he noted that Khan has a specific "style and choice of wrestling that he likes to see."

The Hardy Boyz have had multiple, impactful runs in TNA Wrestling. Jeff Hardy found major singles success, becoming a three-time TNA World Heavyweight Champion.
Matt Hardy famously reinvented himself with his "Broken" character, a creative phenomenon that took the wrestling world by storm and led to cinematic matches like "The Final Deletion." Together, they also captured the TNA World Tag Team Championship on three separate occasions, most recently in 2024.
Years later, they reunited in AEW in 2022, immediately entering a dream feud with The Young Bucks, whom they defeated at the Double or Nothing pay-per-view.
However, their AEW run was quickly derailed by Jeff's legal issues and subsequent suspension, from which they never fully recovered their momentum. Despite the initial excitement, their time in AEW was marked by inconsistent booking and injuries before both departed the company.

AEW Superstar Undergoes Surgery

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. AEW star Buddy Matthews is set to be on the sidelines for the foreseeable future. The House of Black member confirmed on Thursday that he is undergoing ankle surgery. In a post on his Instagram story, Matthews shared a photo of himself at a hospital. He was alongside his real-life partner, former WWE Women's World Champion Rhea Ripley, just before he went in for the procedure. Buddy Matthews is getting surgery to repair his ankle. Speedy recovery. — Andrew Ravens l (@Andrew_Ravens) August 7, 2025 A Sidelined House Of Black Member Matthews has been largely absent from AEW programming in recent weeks. This surgery now provides a legitimate reason for his time away from the ring as he begins his recovery. The specific nature of the ankle injury and a potential timetable for his return have not yet been disclosed. His absence further complicates the status of the House of Black faction, as fellow member Brody King has recently been competing in the AEW World Tag Team Title Eliminator Tournament with a new partner, Bandido. From "Best Kept Secret" to House Of Black Buddy Matthews has had a decorated career in both WWE and AEW. WWE fans will remember him from his time in NXT, where he was a one-time NXT Tag Team Champion. He later had a career-defining run on the 205 Live brand, where he was repackaged as "The Best Kept Secret" and had a dominant, critically acclaimed reign as the WWE Cruiserweight Champion. He was revealed as the third member of the dark and mysterious faction, the House of Black, alongside Malakai Black and Brody King. An Uncertain Future The House of Black quickly became one of the most popular and dominant groups in AEW. Their biggest success came when they captured the AEW World Trios Championship and held the titles for a significant portion of 2023. This injury is an unfortunate setback for the talented Australian star. The wrestling world now wishes him a full and speedy recovery and awaits the eventual, and likely ominous, return of the full House of Black. More WWE News: For more on WWE, head to Newsweek Sports.

Fan-Favorite Star Reportedly Receives New WWE Contract Offer

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. With his WWE contract reportedly set to expire in a matter of days, a major update has emerged on the status of Karrion Kross. According to a new report, the former NXT Champion has now been offered a new contract by the company. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer clarified the evolving situation. He suggested that, despite the uncertainty, he does not expect Kross and his wife, Scarlett, to be leaving WWE. A Last-Minute Offer Meltzer confirmed that previous reports about Kross not having a new deal were likely accurate at the time. However, the situation has now changed, with an offer being made as the deadline approaches. "I was told the story about him not being signed to a contract. I heard that is legit, but that he did get an offer," Meltzer explained. "I was told he's gotten an offer, and I don't expect him to go anywhere." This last-minute development comes after weeks of intense fan speculation about the duo's future. A Familiar Storyline? Meltzer also suggested that WWE may be intentionally turning Kross's real-life contract negotiation into a storyline. He drew a parallel to the recent situation with R-Truth, whose reported contract non-renewal led to a massive fan outcry before he was brought back in a major angle, revealing the entire situation was a "work." More news: WWE Superstar Announces Retirement Match "The amount of distrust that will be there six months from now is gonna be pretty damn high," Meltzer cautioned, noting that repeatedly blurring the lines between real contract news and storylines could impact media credibility. A Career Of Highs and Lows Karrion Kross's WWE journey has been a rollercoaster. He was a dominant, two-time NXT Champion before a disastrous initial main roster call-up saw him stripped of his character and released in 2021. He was brought back by the new creative regime in 2022, but his second main roster run has been marked by inconsistent booking. This inconsistency is what fueled the recent "We Want Kross" fan movement, which led to a higher-profile role for him. Powerful Allies Despite his up-and-down booking, Kross has powerful supporters backstage. He has long been considered a "Triple H guy," and he recently received the strongest possible endorsement from Paul Heyman. On The Ariel Helwani Show, Heyman compared the organic fan support for Kross to the movements that propelled legends like Steve Austin, Daniel Bryan, and CM Punk to superstardom. With that level of backing, it seems a new deal was always the likely outcome. More WWE News: For more on WWE, head to Newsweek Sports.

The slippery Brock Lesnar slope WWE chose to take on

It's complicated with Brock Lesnar. The seven-time WWE world champion made a stunning return and delivered an F5 to John Cena to close a two-night SummerSlam, whose final scene at MetLife Stadium on Sunday kicked off the last chapter of their rivalry. Advertisement It was Lesnar's first appearance on WWE television since SummerSlam 2023 and first since being named in the bombshell sexual assault and sex trafficking lawsuit against former WWE boss Vince McMahon. Lesnar is not a defendant in the suit brought by former WWE employee Janel Grant, nor has he been accused of a crime, but his name, which was officially revealed in an updated complaint in February, appears 44 times.
