Hughes reveals why trio missed Blues' win at Harrogate
The Blues were without Gabe Breeze, Josh Grant and Georgie Kelly in Yorkshire as well as others who have been sidelined for longer.
Head coach Hughes said Breeze was ill, Grant suffered a knock in training while with Kelly the Cumbrians are simply trying to manage the striker's workload.
First-choice keeper Breeze missed out on Saturday as Harry Lewis played the full game in goal and earned a solid clean sheet.
On Breeze, Hughes said: 'We're hoping it's just a viral thing.
'He was under the weather the other night at South Shields [last Tuesday's 2-1 win].
'He hasn't been in the club since. So we're just trying to get the bottom of it. It's a sore throat or whatever, so it sounds like it's a little bit viral.'

Hughes said the illness had not affected anyone else at the club. 'I think it's just an individual thing,' added the Blues boss.

The head coach, meanwhile, stressed there was nothing serious behind midfielder Grant and striker Kelly's absences.
'Josh got a bang on his knee in training, so he missed out,' said Hughes of the midfielder.
'With Georgie, he got 60 minutes at South Shields. He was only down to do 45, but he felt good, so we gave him the 60 and then thought we'd err on the side of safety again [after that], because he has missed a couple of weeks in the early start of the pre-season.
Hughes confirms Dutch-born midfielder who's on trial with Carlisle United
'So, that's all. He's available.'
Cameron Harper, who was not involved in the South Shields game, returned as a substitute at Harrogate.
But Carlisle remained without the likes of Stephen Wearne, Jordan Jones, Morgan Feeney, Jake Allan and Sam Hetherington, who have all had injury issues.

All Blacks scrum-half Roigard out of Argentina Tests
All Black Cameron Roigard has been ruled out of two Tests in Argentina, New Zealand Rugby announced Sunday, with the scrum-half joining a worrying injury list ahead of the Rugby Championship. Roigard suffered a stress fracture to his foot while playing in last month's 3-0 home series sweep of an under-strength France. Scan results confirmed he won't be fit for Tests against the Pumas in Cordoba on August 16 and Buenos Aires a week later, robbing New Zealand of a speedy half, who has emerged as a key player under coach Scott Robertson. The 24-year-old's availability for two home Tests against South Africa in September is unclear. Robertson will need to dig into his scrum-half depth when naming a 36-man squad on Monday to travel to Argentina. Noah Hotham was already ruled out with an ankle injury, leaving only Cortez Ratima available from the three scrum-halves involved in the France series. Robertson may consider a recall for 23-cap scrum-half Finlay Christie, whose last test was more than a year ago against England. Another candidate is Otago Highlander Folau Fakatava, who made two bench appearances against Ireland in 2022. Robertson had previously said first-choice prop Tyrel Lomax and winger Caleb Clarke will miss the Argentina Tests as they recuperate from injury, along with Hotham and back-rower Luke Jacobson. Captain Scott Barrett is likely to be included after missing the last two French Tests with a calf muscle complaint. His brother and playmaker Beauden Barrett is also expected to be available after shaking off an injury, along with key forwards Tupou Vaa'i, Wallace Sititi and Tamaiti Williams. dgi/fox

Joao Palhinha set for Tottenham medical as loan deal agreed with Bayern
Tottenham have agreed a deal with Bayern Munich to sign Joao Palhinha on loan with an option to buy. The former Fulham midfielder will undergo a medical before putting pen to paper on a season-long who had interest from elsewhere, made his intention to join Spurs clear once he heard of their interest in him. Spurs will cover Palhinha's full wages and have an option to make the move more permanent next season, reportedly for £26million (€30m). Palhinha joined Bayern for an initial £43.2m fee last summer, representing a club-record player sale for Fulham. But the defensive midfielder made just six starts in the Bundesliga last season as it became clear he was not part of manager Vincent Kompany's plans. During two seasons with Fulham, who he joined for £17m, Palhinha became one of the Premier League's standout stars. In the 2023-24 season, he ranked top among all top-flight players for total tackles made, as well as for tackles made in the defensive third of the pitch and also in the middle third. Tottenham believe the Portuguse international's arrival will bolster their strength in central midfield ahead of their first season under new head coach Thomas Frank, who tasted victory in his first north London derby in Thursday's pre-season friendly victory over Arsenal in Hong Kong. Should the deal be completed swiftly, Palhinha could make his Spurs against his parent club, with Spurs and Bayern to meet in a friendly at the Allianz Arena next Thursday as England captain Harry Kane faces his former club.
