IT dept finds ₹30,444 cr undisclosed income in FY25, held 465 surveys

The Income Tax department has conducted 465 surveys, leading to detection of undisclosed income of Rs 30,444 crore in the 2024-25 fiscal year, Parliament was informed on Tuesday.
Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha said whenever any credible information of 'direct tax' evasion comes to its notice, it takes suitable actions, including surveys, search and seizure operations, assessments, to bring to tax, the undisclosed income.
During FY25, a total of 465 surveys were conducted, which led to detection of undisclosed income of Rs 30,444 crore.
In FY24 and FY23, 737 and 1,245 surveys were conducted by the I-T department and undisclosed income of Rs 37,622 crore and 9,805 crore, respectively, were detected.
The total number of groups searched during FY25 stood at 1,437 and assets seized stood at Rs 2,504 crore.
In FY24, 1,166 groups were searched leading to total asset seizure of Rs 2,555 crore. In FY23, Rs 1,766 crore assets were seized following searches in 1,437 groups.

‘Political greed of mayor and MLA has ruined Mohali': SAD district chief slams Kulwant Singh & Mayor Sidhu
Shiromani Akali Dal's Mohali district president Parvinder Singh Sohana has launched a fierce attack on Mohali Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu and local MLA Kulwant Singh, blaming their 'political greed' for the decline of the city. Addressing a press conference Wednesday, Sohana alleged that 'both these leaders unite when it serves their interests, and at other times, they cross swords to fool the public'. He said that they have destroyed Mohali by prioritising their own political gains over public welfare. With the Municipal Corporation elections just months away, Sohana accused Mayor Sidhu of suddenly pretending to care about civic problems that he ignored for over four years. 'After four and a half years of corruption that financially ruined Mohali MC, the mayor now wants to act like a savior,' said Sohana, warning that residents will not fall for such tactics again. He questioned the Mayor's recent demand of Rs 600 crore from the government, asking, 'Where is the estimate for this? Where is it supposed to be spent? When was this discussed in any MC meeting?' Turning his criticism toward MLA Kulwant Singh, Sohana said the legislator has ignored the city's core issues. 'For the past one year and a half, garbage management has failed completely. People are falling sick, but the MLA is only busy with politics,' he stated. He also criticised Kulwant Singh's claim of using Samgoli village as a garbage dump. 'Will people not be living there? Is it right to dump our city's waste into someone else's backyard?' asked Sohana. On the issue of rainwater flooding, Sohana said both the Mayor and MLA were equally responsible. 'Every year, citizens suffer massive losses, but these two only play blame games while people become victims of their political rivalry.' He emphasised that the Shiromani Akali Dal government had earlier invested Rs 2,500 crore in developing Mohali's infrastructure, yet 'not even one-fifth of that has been brought in by the current Mayor and MLA, and whatever came wasn't spent properly'. Over ₹ 79,000 seized in Arcot municipality office after worker's complaint
Officials from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) seized ₹ 79,282 unaccounted cash from the office of Arcot municipality in Ranipet on Wednesday. DVAC sources said that the municipality has engaged 102 temporary sanitary workers on contract basis mainly for door-to-door garbage collection from households in the town. As per norms, each worker should be paid Rs 489 for their work on a daily basis. However, it has been alleged by sanitary workers that they were paid only Rs 370 for each worker daily by the civic body. Sanitary workers also complained of non-payment of wages for the past three months by the civic body. Thw workers have complained to DVAC that more money has been deducted from civic officials for Provident Fund and ESI from their wages as against stipulated percentage of wages to it. Based on complaints by affected workers to the Commissionerate of Municipal Administration, a six-member team led by V. Ganesh, Deputy SP, DVAC (Ranipet) conducted the searches between 8. 30 p.m on Tuesday to 4.30 a.m on Wednesday morning. DVAC officials also questioned Municipal Commissioner S. Venketalakshman and other senior municipal officials present during the searches in the office. After hours of search, DVAC officials recovered the unaccounted cash from washrooms and storerooms in the municipal building. As most of the financial transactions are done online, DVAC also seized mobile phones of senior municipal officials for verification of cash transactions. A detailed investigation is underway.
