FSU is 'firmly in the mix' for elite 2027 QB
Johnson's recruitment is in a critical stage as he will announce his commitment on Aug. 3. The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder is deciding between the Seminoles, Texas A&M Aggies, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Tennessee Volunteers, and South Carolina Gamecocks.
According to Tom Loy of 247Sports, FSU and Texas A&M have separated from the pack with decision day approaching. He also believes that while there has been lots of talk about the Aggies, "the Seminoles are firmly in the mix to potentially pull off the perceived upset. This one is closer than most are suggesting."
Johnson is the No. 61 overall player in the 247Sports composite ranking and the No. 3 quarterback. He is also the No. 8 player from Georgia.
He has visited FSU numerous times during his recruitment, which kicked into high gear back in October of 2024 when they offered him a scholarship. He was in Tallahassee twice in June, attending a school camp on June 5 and returning for another visit on June 15.
Johnson had a productive sophomore season for Lowndes High School, leading them to a 10-2 record. Johnson completed 67.2% (123-183) of his passes for 1,799 yards, 16 touchdowns, and three interceptions, per MaxPreps. He also rushed for 318 yards and three touchdowns on 79 carries, averaging 4.0 yards per carry.

"Their fans were definitely getting hype, crowd was -- couldn't hear anything, stuff like that, but probably the best stadium I've been in last year." Smith was then asked about a potential budding rivalry with Oregon with the teams playing twice last year, and with where the trajectory of both are heading. "Kind of -- a little bit. That's how I think it's going," continued Smith. "The way things are going, it's kind of like Ohio State-Oregon is starting to be like a little rivalry, I guess." Obviously, Smith didn't mean to slight Ohio Stadium being that he plays there and it can get loud too, but when you go on the road, the noise factor when on offense can make a huge difference. I can vouge from personal experience that Autzen Stadium was indeed the loudest I've ever heard a stadium. It was a great environment and venue, and hopefully, the brass at Ohio State took note and try to do some things to make the environment in the Horseshoe even better. Browns QB Kenny Pickett injured his hamstring near the end of Saturday's practice and is expected to re-evaluate the injury later this week, per sources. Pickett was coming off a strong couple of practices, per sources, and at least for the short term, there now will be more reps… Former Steelers QB Kenny Pickett has suffered an unfortunate hamstring injury at Browns training camp — opening the door for the starting competition to get additional reps. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Pickett suffered his hamstring injury at the end of Saturday's practice — and is set to be re-evaluated later this week. The Steelers traded Pickett to the Eagles last offseason — who then sent him to the Browns, where he's involved in a four-way competition for the starting QB position in Cleveland. Pickett was splitting reps with QBs Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders for the Browns' starting spot — and despite a strong early showing at camp, the ex-Steeler will likely fight an uphill battle for the job while nursing his hamstring. Here's to hoping the former first-rounder can return quickly and earn the role for Cleveland — as the Week 6 revenge game, when the Browns visit Pittsburgh, hinges on Pickett under center. Big Ten Network personality Jake Butt picks teams for 2025 Big Ten title game
Another Big Ten football media days is in the books, and now we can focus our attention towards the start of fall camp and the buildup to the start of the 2025 college football season. Ohio State will be defending its College Football Playoff national championship and will look to add a couple of goals it missed out on last season -- winning the Big Ten and beating Michigan. That's not as easy as it used to be with the addition of former Pac-12 schools from the West Coast -- Oregon, Washington, UCLA, and USC-- and with Michigan and Penn State rising up to become national powers as well. The Big Ten has closed the gap on the SEC and created one of its own as the best conference in the country, and it should be another fantastic season in 2025. So, who has the advantage in making the Big Ten Championship game? Ohio State and Penn State are expected to be the best teams this year according to most of the media, but that's not what Jake Butt from the Big Ten Network thinks. In a segment on social media, Butt provided his picks for teams that will play in Indianapolis, and he omitted Ohio State, picking Penn State to tussle with Oregon instead. It's all opinion, of course, and it's not like the Ducks aren't a program to reckon with almost annually now, so there's that. But Butt not identifying his alma mater, Michigan or the Buckeyes, is an interesting take, especially considering Oregon lost as much talent as OSU. But never fear Ohio State fans, Butt did mention Ohio State as one of the teams that will contend for a College Football Playoff spot -- so there's at least that. Ohio State defending its title and having a shot at a conference crown will largely depend on the production it gets at the quarterback spot and how well the defense plugs some of those gaps lost to the NFL. It won't take long to see how those questions are answered because the Buckeyes open up against Texas in Week 1. Let the countdown continue.
