Broadway star Megan Hilty is often expected to 'pretend she's not human' as she reveals sudden injury
The 44-year-old actress recently received a Tony nomination for her role in the Broadway adaptation of the Meryl Streep film Death Becomes Her, but revealed on Wednesday (11.06.25) night that she has to take an immediate leave of absence from the show due to a vocal injury and thanked the producers for understanding that she cannot just "push through" this time.
She wrote on Instagram: "I love my job. Madeline Ashton is by far the most challenging and rewarding role I have ever taken on. The lengths to which I have gone to make sure I can physically do the show is a job in itself - the regimen is too long for this post - but I do it joyfully because, as I mentioned before, I LOVE what I do.
"Which is why it is so painful to say that I will be stepping away from my beloved DBH family for 3-4 weeks while I recover from a vocal injury that only time can heal.
"It's hard for me to admit I am human, particularly because performers are often asked to push through and pretend that we're not. I am so fortunate to work with the best producers, company, and stage managers, who don't subscribe to that way of thinking and fully support me and my fellow castmates when our bodies tell us it's time for a break."
The former Smash star then asked her fans to have "patience and understanding" for everyone in her industry as she reminded them that actors are like "athletes" in terms of what they are expected to do.
She added: "I kindly ask for your patience and understanding - not just for me, but for all Broadway performers. What we do with our teeny tiny vocal cords is nothing short of a Herculean task - one that most people take for granted and very few actually understand. I encourage you to do the research and see for yourself how your own vocal cords work - it is fascinating and I guarantee it'll make you all the more impressed the next time you see a live performance.
"We are athletes. And just like a professional basketball player, we are going to get injured from time to time - not because we aren't good at our jobs, it simply comes with the territory because of the extraordinary demands we put on our bodies.
"Thank you for your patience and support while I take this time to take care of myself to ensure my longevity with the show and my career, in general.
"In the meantime, Madeline's fabulous shoes will be filled brilliantly and I'll be counting the seconds until I can meet you back at the Lunt-Fontanne. "

Australian actor Patrick Brammall has been spotted cosying up to Anne Hathaway on-set of Hollywood's most anticipated sequel. Two weeks after it was announced the award-winning local star would be playing Hathaway's love interest in The Devil Wears Prada 2, the duo were photographed filming romantic scenes in Brooklyn, New York. Little is known about Brammall's character, though he was dressed smart in a business suit while Hathaway slipped into a fabulous blue cocktail dress. More recently, Brammall created and starred in Binge's comedy Colin From Accounts alongside his wife and collaborator, Harriet Dyer. The beloved show was recently renewed for a third season. Since it premiered in 2022, the show has gone on to experience global success. It's now licensed to over 150 territories around the world, including on Paramount+ in the US and the BBC in the UK. Sheryl Lee Ralph and Vincent Hughes marked their 20th wedding anniversary by renewing their vows. The Abbott Elementary actress and the Pennsylvania state senator reaffirmed their commitment to one another in front of 250 guests on the famous staircase at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The iconic stairs are known as the Rocky Steps because Sylvester Stallone famously ran up them in 1976's Rocky, and a line from the film - 'It ain't about how hard you hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward' - has always struck a chord with Sheryl. Tony Hadley dismisses the prospect of a Spandau Ballet reunion
Tony Hadley doubts that a Spandau Ballet reunion would work. The 65-year-old singer quit as lead singer of the True band in 2017 due to "circumstances beyond my control" and was surprised to hear his ex-bandmate Gary Kemp suggest earlier this year that he would like to do another tour. Tony told Classic Pop magazine: "Really? That's news to me. "I don't think it would work. I haven't seen Gary, Martin (Kemp) or John (Keeble) in eight years. Steve (Norman) is the only one I'm vaguely in contact with. "We had some good times, but unfortunately there were some bad times as well. That's just life. We had some good laughs on the last tour, then unfortunately John fell ill and it wasn't the same without him. That was difficult." Tony doesn't want animosity amongst his former Spandau Ballet bandmates but is happy to be focusing on his solo career now. He said: "I wish Gary, Martin and John well, but I'm happy doing what I'm doing. I love the freedom I have now, the fact I can go from a bit of swing to a bit of rock. You can't do that within the confines of a band." Spandau Ballet had a huge hit with Gold in 1983 and Tony believes that the track continues to be popular as it is easy for people to sing along to. He explained: "You can't fail with Gold. There are times I get distracted singing it. I will suddenly come to and think: 'God, what's the second verse?' I get round it by going: 'Right, you lot can sing it...' However, Tony is still baffled that the band chose not to perform the song during their set at Live Aid in 1985. The singer said: "My one issue with Gold is, why didn't we play it at Live Aid? I think it's because we didn't think we could reproduce the orchestral touches at Wembley. Whatever, it didn't make any sense to me why we didn't do it." Hadley has been involved in music for over 40 years and believes that his distinctive voice has been pivotal to his success. He explained: "I've always had a big voice and it's always sounded like me. That gives me an identity, whether you like my voice or not. "My influences are all brilliant voices, but I'm not interested in technicality. Loads of singers can do more vocal twiddles than me and are technically better, but that's not what I'm interested in."
