Dame Barbara Windsor 's widower Scott Mitchell has shared he 'still wakes up in panic' worrying about the late star, like he did when she was still alive.
Barbara, known for her portrayal of Peggy Mitchell in the BBC soap opera EastEnders, died from Alzheimer's Disease in 2020 at the age of 83.
Scott, 62, who became Barbara's carer in 2014 when she fell ill with the disease, said he would always be 'constantly alert' during the night in case she had a fall.
And years after her death, Scott has admitted he still struggles to sleep throughout the night.
He told The Mirror: 'I've never recovered from my sleep from when I was caring for Barbara. I'll fall asleep at 11 but I can be waking up through the night.
'I was so aware of when she used to get up in the night because she used to have falls in the night. So I never really used to sleep. I used to constantly be alert.'
He added: 'There are times when I wake up and I panic because I think, is she OK? Like I used to. I have to talk to myself and say, "it's OK. She's at peace". It's a lot less than it used to be now.'
Scott and his new partner Tanya Franks previously spoke about their romance on Lorraine.
In the wake of the loss of his wife, Scott detailed how his 'incredible friendship' with Tanya, 57, became a romance.
Speaking to hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, he said: 'We forged an incredible friendship over the four years and something wonderful blossomed out of it...
'The exact opposite of what dementia is. I'm very fortunate that I have a partner that doesn't mind me speaking about my late wife.'
Scott and Tanya forged a close friendship over the years as they worked together to raise awareness about Alzheimer's with 'Bab's Army'.
Alzheimer's is close to Tanya's heart with her running in the London Marathon as part of Bab's Army for her step-father Derek.
Tanya, who knew EastEnders star Barbara and played drug addict prostitute Rainie Cross on the soap, admitted she can do 'nothing but support' Scott discussing Barbara's battle and his work in caring for the TV icon.

Tanya said: 'I can do nothing but support him in talking about it. You often feel alone in it when you are caring for someone with Alzheimer's...
'The communication allowed the support system to grow. Barbara is as much about the legacy of Alzheimer's as it is me going through it with my step father. It is hundreds of thousands that we've raised from doing the three marathons.'
Scott echoed: 'If for next year's marathon someone would like to give a million pounds, a big company or sponsor, I will do another marathon and shave my hair off as well, and that is the big one, shaving my hair off.'
'I don't want people to go through the latter stages of what I went through with Barbara.'
He said: 'She's a wonderful lady who knew Barbara. It can't be easy to be with someone who was the other half of Barbara Windsor, especially the fact that I still put myself out there and talk about her.
'So, it says to me the type of person that Tanya is, that she can deal with that. She's very sure of herself as a person. Just because you're not with someone for whatever reason, it doesn't mean to say that you just switch off some valve of love.'

ITV announced the big shake up to its daytime schedule amid huge cuts last month. Loose Women will only air for 30 weeks of the year. The series is scrapping their live studio audience when the programme airs with a reduced schedule of just 30 episodes next year. Bosses have got rid of the studio audience to save costs, with insiders revealing that it's an expensive feature due to being managed by an external company, who also provides security and a warmup person, but for the presenters, it's going to be a 'disaster.' A TV source told MailOnline: 'The panelists are really upset over the decision to axe the live studio audience from the show. 'The only concern now is to cut costs and having a live studio audience can be expensive, with the added need for security and a warmup artist. Meanwhile Kaye Adams has broken her silence on the brutal ITV cuts. She admitted that she's suffered 'sleepless nights' after her 'life imploded' and 'has no idea what's going to happen.' 'I didn't anticipate it, which is probably stupid in retrospect. You get into a sort of rhythm of life. Beverley Knight's 'heart full' after hometown Wolverhampton shows
Acclaimed soul singer Beverley Knight has said her "heart is full" after a week of shows in her starred in Marie & Rosetta at Wolverhampton Grand last month, 40 years after performing on the same stage with the city's youth theatre at 12 years said the singer "gave back to the community in bucket-loads" by inviting students who had never visited a theatre before and singing for visitors with visiting a mural of herself in the city for the first time, Knight wrote on Instagram: "I don't know if I will ever find the words to explain how much being at home in Wolverhampton meant to me." Knight invited 20 students from her old school, Highfields, while 20 others came from Star King Solomon Academy in Birmingham, 90% of whom had never been to a Bird, the theatre's head of marketing, said the singer performed at the Grand's Memory Café for people living with dementia, and assisted blind and partially-sighted audience members on to the stage to get closer to props and costumes. "Wolverhampton is so blessed to have Beverley Knight, a proud Wulfrunian, so visibly championing the city," he added."The audience response to her Grand Theatre debut in Marie & Rosetta was proof of the appreciation the local community have for her." The singer's mural, on Victoria Passage just off Skinner Street, was painted on the side of a shop last September by Wolverhampton-based creator Jack Sankson, also known as paid for the artwork out of his own pocket and said he appreciated Knight taking the time to look at it."It is also great to be recognised by her," he added. Knight said being recognised with the mural and a plaque at the theatre was "just beautiful".She added: "More than anything, [to] the audiences that just kept coming and coming and coming, I can't thank you all enough."My heart's full, it's full." Mark questioned, but with met by silence from his father. 'Dad, how do ya feel?' Josh mirrored. He's stopped moving.' Thankfully, Mark Snr soon regained consciousness and as if nothing had happened at all he triumphantly threw his fist into the air as he was hoisted back up onto the platform. Unfazed by his experience, he told his sons, 'That was amazing but terrifying, that was terrifying!' Still not having twigged that his father had lost consciousness, Josh said: 'You weren't answering us, were you shouting back when we asked if you were ok?' Mark Snr then cleared up the matter by explaining: 'I think I blacked out. 'All I can remember is that I went into a swing and that was that. 'Every thing else was a blur!' while Mark Jnr responded: 'You frightened the life out of me not shouting back.' Despite the scenes going viral, the Wright family won't be returning for a second season of their travel show. A TV insider told The Sun that the series was 'always going to be a suck-it-and-see job' however it 'wasn't meant to be'. 'If it went down well with audiences and got healthy viewing figures, the BBC would have been tempted to maybe explore another series,' the insider revealed. 'The Wrights would have been up for it, but it wasn't to be.' The source added though that a consolation for the Essex family is that the BBC is 'still keen to work with them' so another show could be on the cards. A BBC Spokesperson said: 'A Wright Family Holiday was commissioned as a one off and has not been axed.'
