India vs England 5th Test Day 2 , London weather report: Will rain play spoilsport during IND vs ENG Test at The Oval?
After only 64 overs were bowled on Day 1 of the fifth Test at The Oval in London, more rain is on the cards on the second day of the match between India and England. Overcast skies remained throughout Thursday in London and that is expected to be the challenge for the second straight day.
The weather is expected to be more dried up on Day 2, though the UK Met Office predicts the highest chance of rain around 2PM (6:30pm IST) and 4pm (8:30pm IST). Temperatures will remain around the 20 degrees Celsius mark throughout.

On the opening day, fast bowlers Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue led England's bowling attack as India struggled to 204/6 at stumps in the series-deciding fifth Test at The Oval in London. Atkinson claimed 2/31 on his home ground, while Tongue took 2/47, with Karun Nair remaining unbeaten on 52 in a match India needs to win to level the five-Test series 2-2.
Atkinson not only took crucial wickets but also executed a run-out of India captain Shubman Gill. Tongue, despite bowling inconsistently, delivered two exceptional balls that resulted in key dismissals.
England's stand-in captain Ollie Pope, replacing the injured Ben Stokes, chose to bowl first under overcast conditions on a green-tinged pitch after winning the toss.
Atkinson struck early, dismissing left-handed opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for two runs through an lbw decision confirmed on review.

Chris Woakes then removed KL Rahul, who had amassed over 500 runs in the series, for 14 when the opener played on while attempting to cut a ball too close to his body.
Gill, who has scored four centuries in his first series as captain, needed 53 more runs to break Sunil Gavaskar's record of 774 runs in a Test series against West Indies in 1971. However, he was run out for 21 by Atkinson's direct hit while attempting a risky single.
Sai Sudharsan's patient innings of 38 from 108 balls ended when he edged Tongue's delivery to wicketkeeper Jamie Smith, one of four Surrey players in the England team.
Ravindra Jadeja, who had scored a crucial century in the previous Test at Old Trafford, fell for just nine runs, caught behind by Smith off Tongue's bowling.
Dhruv Jurel, replacing injured wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, was caught by Harry Brook at second slip off Atkinson for 19, reducing India to 153-6.
Washington Sundar, who scored his maiden Test century in the drawn fourth Test at Old Trafford, remained unbeaten on 19 alongside Nair at stumps.

Rohit Sharma attends first India match after Test retirement, ex-captain avoids media at stadium entrance -Watch
Rohit Sharma attended his first international game after Test retirement on Saturday at the Oval on Day 3 of the fifth game between India and England, the visuals of which went viral on social media. The 38-year-old who still is available for ODIs, dodged the small crowd at the stadium entrance, who were taken by surprise by the presence of Rohit. Dressed in casuals, Rohit sported a relaxed look as he also asked the media not to film him. Rohit would have been in India white on this tour, but took a shock retirement from the longest format of the game. Surely, Rohit's presence will boost Indian team's confidence at the Oval. Rohit's visit to a Test match between India and England is also likely to raise questions on another former Virat Kohli, who chose not to visit India in any of the games in the series, despite residing in the UK. Meanwhile, a maiden fifty in Test cricket by night watchman Akash Deep and a 100-plus partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal helped India to finish on 189/3 at lunch, leading by 166 runs. The duo added 107 runs for the third wicket before Atkinson removed Deep on the stroke of lunch for a brilliant 66 off 94 balls, including 12 fours. Night watchman Akash Deep has slammed nine boundaries en route to a first career Test half-century. Akash Deep is the first Indian nightwatchman to score 50-plus runs since Amit Mishra (84 runs) against the same opponent at the same venue in 2011. India started Day 3 on 75/2, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Akash Deep unbeaten on the crease, leading by 52 runs. This was the 18th hundred partnership in this series, the most in a Test series in this century (since 2000), surpassing 17 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2003-04.

London [UK], August 2 (ANI): A stellar maiden fifty in Test cricket by night watchman Akash Deep and a 100-plus partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal helped India to finish on 189-3, leading by 166 runs at the end of the first session on Day 4 in the fifth test against England on Saturday. The duo added 107 runs for the third wicket before Atkinson removed Deep on the stroke of lunch for a brilliant 66 off 94 balls, including 12 fours. Night watchman Akash Deep has slammed nine boundaries en route to a first career Test half-century. Deep is the first Indian nightwatchman to score 50-plus runs since Amit Mishra (84 runs) against the same opponent at the same venue in 2011. India started Day 3 on 75/2, with Yashasvi Jaiswal (51*) and night-watchman Akash Deep (4*) unbeaten on the crease, leading by 52 runs. Jaiswal carried on his good form from overnight; meanwhile, England have endured an innings to forget in the field, dropping as many as four catches. India crossed the 100-run mark in the 23rd over. Jaiswal pushed the ball for a couple of runs off Gus Atkinson. In the 30th over, the duo of Jaiswal and Deep completed a 50-run stand for the third wicket. Deep slammed a four off Atkinson to bring up his maiden fifty in Test cricket. This was the 18th hundred partnership in this series, the most in a Test series in this century (since 2000), surpassing 17 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2003-04. Indian skipper Shubman Gill joined Jaiswal after the departure of Deep. Earlier in the match, four-wicket hauls from Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna and an attacking half-century from Yashasvi Jaiswal put India at the driver's seat at the end of the second day's play during the fifth Test against England at The Oval on Friday. At the end of the day's play, India was 75/2, with Jaiswal (51*) and night-watchman Akash Deep (4*) unbeaten. They lead by 52 runs. The final session of the day kicked off with England being 215/7, with Harry Brook (33*) joined by Gus Atkinson, a capable lower-order hitter. Brief Scores: England: 247 (Zak Crawley 64, Harry Brook 53, Prasidh Krishna 4/62) vs India: 224 and 189/3 (Yashasvi Jaiswal 85*, Akash Deep 66, Overton 1/47). (ANI)

Rohit's presence came after his unexpected announcement to retire from Test cricket, news that surfaced just a week ahead of the squad selection for the ongoing series. Shashwat Nishant New Delhi Day 3 of the 5th Test between England and India saw India's ODI captain Rohit Sharma watching the action live at the stadium from the stands. His arrival was caught on camera as he entered the venue and then was also captured watching his team bat during the 1st session of the day. — Mufaddal Vohra (@mufaddal_vohra) August 2, 2025 Rohit's presence came after his unexpected announcement to retire from Test cricket, news that surfaced just a week ahead of the squad selection for the ongoing series. His longtime teammate Virat Kohli also made the same decision, stepping away from the longest format of the game. Both players have now shifted their focus solely to One Day Internationals. Rohit, who had captained India during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in the 2024–25 season, had initially expressed a desire to continue playing red-ball cricket. However, following a rough patch with the bat and opting out of the fifth Test, he later confirmed his decision to step away from Test matches altogether. Earlier, Rohit and Kohli had also bid farewell to T20Is after helping India clinch the 2024 T20 World Cup. The iconic duo will remain available for ODI duties and are expected to be key figures in India's 2027 ODI World Cup campaign.
