Ankalaev Vs ... Ulberg?
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) wanted newly-crowned light heavyweight champion, Magomed Ankalaev, to defend his 205-pound title at the upcoming UFC 317 pay-per-view (PPV) event, which takes place during International Fight Week next month in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The logical choices for 'Big Ank' were former champions Jiri Prochazka and Alex Pereira; however, both combatants were forced to decline for different reasons. 'BJP' pulled the Thornton Melon card and went back to school, while 'Poatan' is off battling evil hackers with his X password.

'Guys, is there anyone in the Light Heavyweight division who's willing to fight me?' Ankalaev wrote on social media. 'Alex Pereira don't want the Ank anymore. Let's leave him alone because I'm not a bully. Fake ninja he said he have to go back to school because he cannot read. Dana White, Mick Maynard, give me some fish.'
Former UFC lightweight, Josh Thomson, has been playing matchmaker on YouTube.
'What you have is Jamahal Hill coming off a loss, Jan Blachowicz coming off a loss, Aleksandar Rakic coming off a loss, Khalil Rountree Jr. coming off a loss,' Thomson said. 'Dominick Reyes is number eight, he's got a win. You've got Carlos Ulberg, that's it, at number three. You have Jiri but Jiri can't fight. I mean, throw, I would say Ulberg, put him in there, see if Ankalaev will stand with him as well. Let's see, like, there's nothing else you can do. I mean, we're looking for that guy to bring an exciting fight to Ankalaev because right now, good luck trying to sell that.'
Ankalaev has a reputation for turning in 'boring' fights that force fans to 'zone out.'

Ulberg jumped to No. 3 in the official UFC rankings after outworking Jan Blachowicz as part of the UFC London fight card back in March. The once-beaten Kiwi, who turns 35 in just a few months, blasted his way into the promotion by way of Dana White's 'Contender Series' back in late 2020.
Since then, 'Black Jag' is 8-1 with five finishes, four by way of knockout/technical knockout.
The resurgent Reyes, 35, got back into title contention by winning his last three fights. That said, knockout losses to former champions, Prochazka and Blachowicz, could hurt his chances if the decision comes down to Reyes and Ulberg. Hopefully the promotion can figure that out sooner, rather than later.

UFC Cuts Ties With Royce Gracie's Nephew, Kron Gracie
Let's face it. It's tough being the grand son of a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu pioneer and the nephew of a UFC legend. Those are tough shoes to fill if you're attempting to establish a career in combat sports. Kron Gracie has found that out firsthand. On Thursday, per Full Contact MTWF on X, Gracie was one of three fighters removed from the UFC's active roster. Quite honestly, the move from Dana White and Co. should come as no surprise. The 36-year-old whose grandfather is Hélio Gracie and whose uncle is Royce Gracie trains with Nate and Nick Diaz had an esteemed run as a BJJ practitioner, but his MMA career–at least in the UFC–has been less than stellar. Gracie's release comes on the heels of his third straight loss in the Octagon. The last defeat was a brutal TKO stoppage at the hands of Bryce Mitchell in December 2024 at UFC 310. Gracie hadn't just lost three fights in a row in the UFC, he's also been inactive. He fought once in December 2024. Before that, he fought in May 2023, and prior to that fight he was last in the Octagon in October 2019 when he lost a Fight-of-the-Night performance against Cub Swanson. Gracie's lone win in the UFC's Octagon in four fights came in his promotional debut. In February 2019, Gracie scored a first-round submission victory over Alex Caceres. At the time, it appeared the UFC could potentially have a contender on their hands in the featherweight division. Unfortunately, he fought just three times over the next five years and never won another fight with the promotion. While he hasn't announced his retirement from MMA, Gracie is on the wrong side of 35, and he has a modest 5-3 record in the sport. There's no doubt he can likely compete in BJJ tournaments and even train fighters in the martial art his family made a mainstream system in combat sports. But his chances of becoming a legitimate contender for a title on a higher level of MMA are done. The other two fighters the UFC separated from on Thursday were Hakeem Dawodu and Connor Matthews. UFC 316 takes place on Sunday with Merab Dvalishvili defending his title against Sean O'Malley in a rematch of their first battle in September 2024. Here is a look at the complete card. The last defeat was a brutal TKO stoppage at the hands of Bryce Mitchell in December 2024 at UFC 310.

Thunder's Mark Daigneault has '99 mph fastball' comparison to Pacers offense before NBA Finals
The post Thunder's Mark Daigneault has '99 mph fastball' comparison to Pacers offense before NBA Finals appeared first on ClutchPoints. As the Oklahoma City Thunder look to win the NBA Finals against the Indiana Pacers, the team will still have its hands full as their Eastern Conference opponent has had an impressive playoff run. While Thunder's Mark Daigneault has shown respect to fellow head coach Rick Carlisle, he would also shout out the entire team for what they have done, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Advertisement Indiana has shown throughout the past few seasons the fast pace they play, which overwhelmed teams in the playoff run like the Milwaukee Bucks, the East's No. 1 seed in the Cleveland Cavaliers, and recently with the New York Knicks. Daigneault would speak about how they're like a '99 mph fastball' about baseball, according to ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel. 'They're a tall task,' Daigneault said. 'The fundamentals are not complicated, we aren't inventing anything this week. They pump a 99 mph fastball at you, and you can prepare all you want for that, but when you're in the batter's box, it's different when it's time to hit. It's going to be a very tall challenge.' The main star behind their offense is no doubt star point guard Tyrese Haliburton, who Daigneault spoke highly about on Monday. 'He's pretty unique. There's guys similar to him, but he's pretty unique,' Daigneault said via the team's YouTube page. 'The transition catalyst that he is is definitely unique. He does a great job of activating his teammates in transition with pace and advanced passing. He's a dynamic pick-and-roll player that can make every pick-and-roll pass. He generates great pace in the pick-and-roll game, which puts teams behind the ball against him. And he can score.' Thunder's Mark Daigneault speaks highly about Tyrese Haliburton © Trevor Ruszkowski-Imagn Images Subsequently, the Thunder head coach spoke more about Haliburton's impact and how he attributes a lot of facets in the Pacers' offense, which has been this playoff run. While Haliburton's passing has been talked about heavily, it's his 'threat as a scorer' that Daigneault spoke about. Advertisement 'Because he activates his team so much, I think the passing gets a lot of shine, but it's created by his threat as a scorer, and his gravity as a scorer,' Daigneault said. 'If you didn't have to honor him as a scorer, he wouldn't be as effective as a passer, or he wouldn't have the same opportunities to create. There's a reason they are where they are. There's a reason he's where he is. We have great respect for them, certainly for them, and they're a tall task to try to handle on both ends of the floor.' Consequently, Game 1 of the NBA Finals between Oklahoma City and Indiana will take place on Thursday night. UFC newcomer Patchy Mix is ready to stamp his name into a crowded bantamweight division. 'It feels great to be here, finally,' Mix said at the UFC 316 press conference ahead of his bout against Mario Bautista. 'I'll prove it this Saturday, and I do believe that I am the best bantamweight in the world.' 'I'm looking through him,' Mix added of Bautista as the crowd went wild. Mix, 20-1, was previously the champion in rival promotion Bellator before it folded, and the UFC jumped at the opportunity to sign him.
