Prosecutors: Uniformed Detroit cop assaulted, pointed gun at mother of his children
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office on Tuesday, Aug. 19, announced it was charging Justice Calvin, 31, with assault with a dangerous weapon, felony firearm, larceny from the person and domestic violence. He turned himself in earlier the same day, according to a media release from Prosecutor Kym Worthy's office.
Calvin, who was an officer at the time, allegedly trailed the woman in his vehicle to the parking lot of a nursing home at Schaefer and Fenkell just before midnight on Jan. 26, the release said. Once in the parking lot, he pointed his gun at her and forcefully removed her from the passenger side of her vehicle, then physically assaulted her.
Calvin was due to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon in 36th District Court.
The Detroit Police Department did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

Southbound I-75 in Detroit closed for hours Tuesday due to jackknifed semi
A jackknifed semi-truck on Interstate 75 in Detroit shut down part of the freeway Tuesday afternoon, the Michigan State Police reported. The crash happened about 2:30 p.m. on southbound I-75 beneath the Michigan Avenue overpass. State police said the 51-year-old semi-truck driver, who was from Rochester, New York, was driving too fast for the rainy conditions at the time. The driver lost control, struck the right side barrier wall, and jackknifed. "The crash led to all lanes of southbound I-75 being blocked necessitating a total freeway closure," the report said. "Additional investigation on scene by MSP Motor Carrier officers revealed an improperly secured load in the semi-trailer which likely contributed to this crash." No injuries were reported as a result of the crash. The driver was issued citations for speed and improper load securement.

Ex-Detroit police officer accused of assaulting woman, pointing gun at her
A former Detroit police officer is accused of assaulting a 26-year-old St. Clair Shores woman while in uniform and pointing a gun at her. Wayne County prosecutors allege that on Jan. 26, 2025, around 11:30 p.m., Justice Calvin, 31, followed the woman, with whom he has children in common, to a parking lot of a nursing home on Schaefer Highway in Detroit. Calvin then allegedly got out of his vehicle while in full uniform and pointed a gun at the woman before removing her from the passenger side of her car and physically assaulting her. Calvin turned himself in to police on Tuesday. He was arraigned Tuesday on charges of domestic violence, assault with a dangerous weapon, felony firearm, and larceny from a person. He was given a $50,000 bond with a GPS tether and ordered not to contact the victim. A probable cause conference is scheduled for Aug. 28.
